Effectiveness of a Warm-up Program with Dynamic Stretching in Preventing Sports Injuries

Objectives: This study aimed to conduct a warm-up (W-up) program incorporating movement preparation (MP) and clarify its effect on sports injury prevention. Methods: The subjects of the study were 55 first- to third-year students (age: 15.9 ± 1.0 years, height: 168.5 ± 5.2 cm, weight: 57.4 ± 5.3 kg) belonging to a high school boys' soccer team. The first two months were the control period (CP), and the next two months were the intervention period (IP). The CP was a conventional W-up and the IP was a W-up with MP. The effects of each W-up were compared in terms of the incidence of sports injuries and disabilities during both periods and the incidence of sports injuries and disabilities by cause. Other measurements were compared for a total of seven items, including flexibility, balance, and performance. Results: During the IP, the incidence of sports injuries during practice and the incidence of non-contact sports injuries were reduced, whereas flexibility, balance, and performance improved. Conclusions: W-up incorporating MP showed improvement in flexibility and related balance, which may have led to the reduction of sports injuries.

<P>Vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein (VASP) is a regulator of actin dynamics in platelets and a common substrate of both cAMP- and cGMP-dependent protein kinases (PKA and PKG). Elevations of the cAMP and cGMP concentration have been shown to inhibit platelet aggregation. Intracellular levels of cAMP and cGMP are regulated by the synthesizing system of adenylate cyclases, and hydrolysis by cyclic nucleotide phosphodiesterases (PDEs). The present study examined the effect of the anti-platelet drug, cilostazol, which inhibits PDE3 activity, on VASP phosphorylation in platelets. VASP phosphorylation was examined by immunoblotting with an anti-VASP antibody, M4, and an anti-phospho-VASP antibody, 16C2. Cilostazol phosphorylated VASP at both Ser 157 and Ser 239 in a concentration-dependent manner, but EHNA (PDE2 inhibitor), dipyridamole and zaprinast (PDE5 inhibitors) did not. Forskolin (adenylate cyclase activator) and sodium nitroprusside (SNP, NO donor) resulted in the VASP phosphorylation, with increase in the cAMP and cGMP level, respectively. Cilostazol increased cAMP, but not cGMP levels, in platelets. EHNA, zaprinast and dipyridamole, had no effect on cAMP and cGMP levels. The PKA/PKG inhibitor, H-89, inhibited VASP phosphorylation by cilostazol. These results demonstrated that cilostazol phosphorylates VASP through the PDE3 inhibition, increase of cAMP level, and PKA activation in platelets.</P>

In halobacterial membrane, pharaonis phoborhodopsin (or pharaonis sensory rhdopsin II, psRII) forms a complex with its transducer pHtrII. Flash-photolyis of D75N mutant did not yield M-intermediate but an O-like intermediate is observed. We examined the interaction between D75N of ppR and t-Htr (truncated pHtrII). These formed a complex in the presence of n-dodecyl-$\beta$-D-maltoside, and the association accelerated the decay of the 0 of D75N from 15 to 56 s$\^$-1/. From the decay time constants under varying ratios of D75N and t-Htr, n, the molar ratio of D75N/t-Htr in the complex, and K$\_$D/, the dissociation constant, were estimated. The value of n was unity and K$\_$D/ was estimated to 146 nM. This K$\_$D/ value can be considered as the association between the photo-intermediate and t-Htr, which is deduced by the method of estimation. Previously we (Photochem. Photobiol. 74, 489-494 (2001)) reported K$\_$D/ of 15 $\mu$M for the interaction between the wild-type and t-Htr by means of the change of M-decay rates. Therefore, this value should be the K$\_$D/ value for the interaction between M of the wild-type and t-Htr.

We estimate the stable rank and connected stable rank of group C^(*)-algebras of certain disconnected solvable Lie groups such as semi-direct products of connected solvable Lie groups by the integers.
K-THEORY OF C*-ALGEBRAS OF LOCALLY TRIVIAL CONTINUOUS FIELDS

It is shown that the K-theory of the $C^{\ast}$-algebras of continuous fields on locally compact Hausdorff spaces with fibers elementary $C^{\ast}$-algebras is the same as the K-theory of the base spaces. We also consider the slightly generalized case. Furthermore, we give some applications of these results.
M-LEANING SYSTEM BASED ON CC/PP FOR MMS ADAPTATION

It becomes enabled to provide variety of multimedia contents through mobile service with the development of high-speed 3rd generation mobile communication and terminal units. MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) can be displayed in the presentation format which is unified the various multimedia contents such as text, audio, image, video, etc. It is applicable as a new type of ubiquitous learning. This paper proposes m-learning system which can provides MMS learning contents that can be adapted to heterogeneous environments of learners. By providing profiles which meets the standard of CC/PP, it generates MMS based on SMIL language through the adaptation steps according to the learning environment, the content type, and the device property of learners.

In order to image the distribution of permeability in granitic rocks, we carried out two-dimensional (2D) resistivity profiling, together with in-situ permeability tests, electrical logging of boreholes, and resistivity measurements of rock core samples in a laboratory. Based on the electrical logging and in-situ permeability data from boreholes, we obtained empirical equations which relate resistivity and permeability of the granitic rocks in the area studied. We then applied the empirical equation to a 2D resistivity section, to produce a 2D permeability section of the granitic rocks. In this paper, we present details of the field data and of the procedure for conversion from the resistivity section to a permeability section. The observed relationship between resistivity and permeability of the rocks is also discussed.
STABLE RANKS OF MULTIPLIER ALGEBRAS OF C*-ALGEBRAS

We estimate the stable rank, connected stable rank and general stable rank of the multiplier algebras of $C^{*}$-algebras under some conditions and prove that the ranks of them are infinite. Moreover, we show that for any $\sigma$-unital subhomogeneous $C^{*}$-algebra, its stable rank is equal to that of its multiplier algebra.
The Real Rank of CCR C*-Algebra

We estimate the real rank of CCR C*-algebras under some assumptions. A applications we determine the real rank of the reduced group C*-algebras of non-compac connected, semi-simple and reductive Lie groups and that of the group C*-algebras of connected nilpotent Lie groups.
