Adaptation of Cross-Cultural Communication in Jakarta Multinational

Organizational culture in the company is the most important factor to helpemployees in the company to work efficiently and effectively in order to achieve company goals. In order to maintain its existence, the company strives to expand its wings in the global market and establish partnerships to expand cooperation. PT. XX from South Korea cooperated with Krakatau Steel, a state-owned Indonesian company. From this collaboration, the cultural adaptations arouse due to the challenges for workers who have to work together with different cultural backgrounds. Studies show that successful management is highly dependent on employees adapting to local culture and work situations. This process rarely runs smoothly because the persons in intercultural interaction do not use the same language and the lack of adaptation. This study aims to explore the experience of cross-cultural communication adaptation between local and expatriate employees at PT. XX. The method used is qualitative with a case study approach. Data collection methods used is employee interviews at PT. XX with triangulation conducted on 2 expatriates and 2 local employees. The analysis methods used in this research are data reduction, data presentation, and drawing a conclusion.
Management of glucocorticoid-related osteoporotic vertebral fracture

The vertebral column is the most common site of osteoporotic fractures in long-term users of glucocorticoids. Vertebral fracture leads to significant morbidities such as unrelenting pain, spinal deformities and reduced mobility, leading to diminished quality of life. Epidemiological data on the prevalence of glucocorticoid-induced vertebral fractures are limited. As vertebral fracture is a strong risk factor for further fragility fractures and mortality, it should be treated appropriately. This article reviews recent data on the prevalence of vertebral fractures in glucocorticoid users, fracture risk stratification, and evidence-based treatment options. The risk of osteoporotic fractures estimated by FRAX should be adjusted for glucocorticoid users. The first-line treatment of glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis remains the bisphosphonates. Teriparatide and denosumab are alternative options. Percutaneous vertebroplastyand kyphoplasty may be considered for symptomatic control of acutevertebral fracture-related pain when conservative measures fail.

Objective: The use of mouthwash may increase the activity of lactoperoxidase system in saliva and may reduce the risk of halitosis. The research was conducted to determine the effect of mouthwash containing Curcuma xanthorrhiza on lactoperoxidase system activity in relation to halitosis risk. Methods: The research design was a before after clinical trial, the 5 ml saliva samples were taken from 10 subjects age 20-23 years oldat 22.00 WIB at night and at 04.00 WIB in the morning. Lactoperoxidase enzyme activity was measured using the method of Chance and Maehly while the concentration of thiocyanate ion was measured using Thomas and Aune method. Results: The mean±SD of the baseline lactoperoxidase activity absorbance in the evening 0.2463333±0.126053 and then decreased in the morning to 0.1994999±0.059258 and the mean±SD baseline thiocyanate ion from 1.9328±0.187181 in the night decreased in the morning to 1.819±0.510573. After intervention with mouthwash containing Curcuma xanthorrhiza, theincreasing of average value of baseline Lactoperoxidase activity absorbances was indicated from 0.2121±0.107991 in the evening becomes 0.240233±0.091862 in the morning, while the average of thiocyanate ion from 1.0531±0.108838 in the evening becomes 1.090267±0.285835 in the morning. There were no significant differences between the activity of lactoperoxidaseenzyme and thiocyanate ion concentrations in both treatments (p>0.05). Conclusion: The use of mouthwash containing Curcuma xanthorrhiza has the potential to raise the lactoperoxidase system activity.

Theresa Hak Kyung Cha’s Dictee conceptualizes a diasporic mode of identification in which there simultaneously exists nostalgic desire for home and the difficulty involved in this. In this essay, I examine the critically conscious processes of (dis)identifications which Cha engages in throughout her work. The tensions and ironies between the desire for and lack of identification serve to destabilize histories of violence, colonization, and imperialism. Cha’s Dictee critically raises questions regarding diasporic identification for the Korean female and opens up possibilities of political subversion through the text and image. This essay reflects on coming to terms with how things are represented and our positions in the apparatus of legibility and visibility. Through the use of languages, photographs, maps, diagrams, and text, Cha explores the desire to identify the “missing traces” and missing memories of those affected by immigration, exile, and war in Korea.
Heat transfer characteristics in latent heat storage system using paraffin wax

An energy storage system has been designed to study the heat transfer characteristics of paraffin wax during melting and solidification processes in a vertical annulus energy storage system. In the experimental study, three important issues are focused. The first one is temperature distribution in the phase change material (PCM) during the phase change processes. The second one is the thermal characteristics of the paraffin wax, which includes total melting and total solidification times, the nature of heat transfer phenomena in melted and solidified PCM and the effect of Reynolds number as inlet heat transfer fluid (HTF) conditions on the heat transfer parameters. The final one is to calculate heat transfer coefficient and effectiveness during solidification process. The experimental results proved that the PCM melts and solidifies congruently, and the melting front moved from the top to the bottom of the PCM container whereas the solidification front moved from bottom to the top along the axial distances in the PCM container. Experiment has been performed for different water flow rates at constant inlet temperature of heat transfer fluid for recovery and use of heat. Time- based variations of the temperature distributions were explained from the results of observations of melting and solidification curves. Charging and discharging processes were carried out. Heat transfer characteristics were studied.
A Pedagogical Framework for Contentlanguage Integrated Teaching at Middle School Level

This paper reports a case study of how a language-trained teacher followed three principles to integrate content-language teaching to help a Grade 7 class in China to learn both content and language within a content-based language teaching curriculum. The three principles are 1) plan from the content; 2) integrate content and language teaching; and 3) teach the language of the content explicitly (Kong & Hoare, 2010). The teaching can be considered a success as evidenced in the students’ oral and written test results. The study analyzed a unit of learning using data from the lesson transcript, the interview with the teacher, the written and oral test results of the students, and the questionnaire responses from some students. The findings suggest refinements to the three principles leading to a twotier pedagogical framework at the levels of planning and teaching. Possible pedagogical practices are suggested within each level that can support the use of the framework in implementing content-language integrated teaching at the middle school level.
