Up to now researches on Korean literature have been focused on pure literature. As a result, the results of literary researches have been utilized among professional researchers. In order to overcome problems in pure science, the methodologies of applied science may be employed For the results of researches in the area of Korean literature to be utilized ITYX~ widely, there should be research themes with which literary research can be used in the cultural field Researches on Korean literature involving both pure and applied literary studies produce outcomes that are understandable to the public and can be recreated into art Thus it is a problem to solve in contemporary researches on Korean literature to set a new direction of study and explore corresponding research methodologies. A new research method of Korean literature is to deepen inquiry into Korean literature as a pure science and at same time to apply the results to industry, culture and life and improve the quality of life. Such a transition of methodology is a way to cooperation between Korean literature researchers and specialists in the culture industry as well as to the development of the culture industry. Thus the new Korean literature study, which is linked to the culture industry visualized by multimedia, will make contributions not only to professionals but also to teachers in the education fields and people engaged in culture activities including artists.

Kuunmong is novel written in the late seventeenth century by Kim Manjoong, a man of many of many trials who possessed unique literary talent. The concept of the ideal life in the classical novel Kuunmong can be described as the "life aspired to by an intellectual aesthetic consciousness." It if here that we find uniqueness of the novel. It aims to bring the standard of life to a much more intellectual one, a life on the higher plain, a step above the common popular novels so influencial at the time. Depending on how one looks at Kuunmong and its author Kim Manjoong. the novel can be assessed as being like a common love story. Upon careful reading of the text in its totality, however, one can see that this intellectual aesthetic consciousness is fused with Buddhist and Confucian thought and philosophy to create a work that presents a considerable standard of life. Such a healthy ideal in so enjoyable a work obviously must have had a positive influence on the reading public of the day, and it is for this reason that the novel was able to simultaneously satisfy not only the rigid Confucian standards of morality, but also the internationally accepted standards of artistic merit.
