A Study of Suppliers' Participation in Private Exchanges: Focusing on MRO Markets

        임성배(Seong-bae Lim),김성관(Sung-kwan Kim),Robert B. Mitchell,홍순구(Soongoo Hong) 한국전자거래학회 2004 한국전자거래학회지 Vol.9 No.4

Many B2B electronic markets (EMs) are struggling to survive because they failed to attract enough participants. Thus reaching critical mass of participants is one of the key success factors for various types of EMs. The main purpose of this study is to investigate factors that lead MRO (maintenance, repair, and operating) suppliers to participate in private exchanges (PE), the buy-side EM. This paper introduces the characteristics of the PE according to the classification schemes introduced in previous studies about EM types. Literature is reviewed on suppliers’ adoption of inter-organizational information systems focusing on EDI adoptions issues. Data analysis based on incomplete contract theory and the social exchange theory is then presented. The results of this study show that the number of suppliers and subsidy are factors that influence suppliers' participation in PEs. Nonsignificant results relating to trust imply that suppliers who are invited to participate in a PE do not expect their off-line relationships with the buyer to be transferred to the PE.

        The Penn Polarimeters

        Robert H. Koch,George W. Wolf,Anthony B. Hull,Nicholas M. Elias II,Bruce D. Holenstei,Richard J. Mitchell 한국우주과학회 2012 Journal of Astronomy and Space Sciences Vol.29 No.1

This report describes the inception, development and extensive use over 30 years of elliptical polarimeters at the University of Pennsylvania. The initial Mark I polarimeter design utilized oriented retarder plates and a calcite Foster-Clarke prism as the analyzer. The Mark I polarimeter was used on the Kitt Peak 0.9 m in 1969-70 to accomplish a survey of approximately 70 objects before the device was relocated to the 0.72 m reflector at the Flower and Cook Observatory. Successive generations of automation and improvements included the early-80’s optical redesign to utilize a photoelastic modulated wave plate and an Ithaco lock-in amplifier–the photoelastic modulating polarimeter. The final design in 2000 concluded with a fully remote operable device. The legacy of the polarimetric programs includes studies of close binaries, pulsating hot stars, and luminous late-type variables.

At Death’s Door: Alternaria Pathogenicity Mechanisms

        Christopher B. Lawrence,Thomas K. Mitchell,Kelly D. Craven,Yangrae Cho,Robert A. Cramer Jr,김광형 한국식물병리학회 2008 Plant Pathology Journal Vol.24 No.2

The fungal genus Alternaria is comprised of many saprophytic and endophytic species, but is most well known as containing many notoriously destructive plant pathogens. There are over 4,000 Alternaria/host associations recorded in the USDA Fungal Host Index ranking the genus 10th among nearly 2,000 fungal genera based on the total number of host records. While few Alternaria species appear to have a sexual stage to their life cycles, the majority lack sexuality altogether. Many pathogenic species of Alternaria are prolific toxin producers, which facilitates their necrotrophic lifestyle. Necrotrophs must kill host cells prior to colonization, and thus these toxins are secreted to facilitate host cell death often by triggering genetically programmed apoptotic pathways or by directly causing cell damage resulting in necrosis. While many species of Alternaria produce toxins with rather broad host ranges, a closelyrelated group of agronomically important Alternaria species produce selective toxins with a very narrow range often to the cultivar level. Genes that code for and direct the biosynthesis of these host-specific toxins for the Alternaria alternata sensu lato lineages are often contained on small, mostly conditionally dispensable, chromosomes. Besides the role of toxins in Alternaria pathogenesis, relatively few genes and/or gene products have been identified that contribute to or are required for pathogenicity. Recently, the completion of the A. brassicicola genome sequencing project has facilitated the examination of a substantial subset of genes for their role in pathogenicity. In this review, we will highlight the role of toxins in Alternaria pathogenesis and the use of A. brassicicola as a model representative for basic virulence studies for the genus as a whole. The current status of these research efforts will be discussed.

Small Buyers Adoption of Reverse Aggregation Electronic Markets: A Case Study on the Korean Auto Repair Industry

        Lim, Seong-Bae,Kim, Sung-Kwan,Mitchel, Robert B.,Hong, Soon-Goo Korea Association of Information Systems 2004 情報시스템硏究 Vol.13 No.2

The purpose of this study is to investigate factors which can lead small buyers to participate in a Reverse Aggregation Electronic Market (RAEM). Five factors including search, selection, price, delivery, and Internet literacy were selected as possible factors which are expected to influence small buyers' participation in a RAEM. This paper focused on a RAEM of the Korean automotive industry in which the third party aggregator formed a group of small automobile repair shops (ARS) and amassed buying power for them by building a buyer' oriented electronic market (EM). Survey data were collected from small ARS in South Korea. The results of the empirical analysis indicated that fast delivery and support for Internet illiteracy are potential incentives that could influence buyers' decisions to join a RAEM.
