        ON SOME NEW NONLINEAR DELAY AND WEAKLY SINGULAR INTEGRAL INEQUALITIES

        This paper deals with some new nonlinear delay and weakly singular integral inequalities of Gronwall-Bellman type. These results generalize the inequalities discussed by Xiang and Kuang [19]. Several other inequalities proved by $Medve{\check{d}}$ [15] and Ou-Iang [17] follow as special cases of this paper. This work can be used in the analysis of various problems in the theory of certain classes of differential equations, integral equations and evolution equations. A modification of the Ou-Iang type inequality with delay is also treated in this paper.

        Genome-wide identification and comparative analysis of the TUBBY-like protein gene family in maize

        The evolutionary history of TUBBY-like proteins (TLPs), which contain a highly conserved tubby domain, can be traced to the early stages of eukaryote evolution, on account of the identification of this gene family in organisms from single-celled to multicellular eukaryotes. While genome-wide structural and evolutionary analyses of the entire TLP gene family have recently been reported in Arabidopsis and rice, little is known about TLP genes in maize. To gain insight into how TLP genes have evolved in maize, we conducted comprehensive analysis of the molecular evolution of TLP genes in this crop. A total of 15 TLP genes (ZmTLP1–15) were identified in maize by genome-wide screening. This family was classified into four subfamilies based on phylogenetic relationships, protein domains, and motif organization. Gene duplication and chromosomal location analysis indicated that segmental duplication has played a major role in the expansion of the maize TLP family. The ZmTLP genes exhibited differential expression profiles under ABA, NaCl, 42, 4 C, and PEG stress treatment. We performed microsynteny analysis across three gramineous species based on comparisons of the specific regions containing TLP genes, revealing numerous microsyntenic gene pairs among maize, rice, and sorghum, which suggests that the flanking regions of TLP genes may be derived from a common ancient Gramineae ancestor.

        Some new explicit bounds on the solutions to a class of new nonlinear retarded Volterra-Fredholm type integral inequalities in two independent variables are established, which can be used as effective tools in the study of certain integral equations. Some examples of application are also indicated.

        A Contextualised Study of EFL Learners’ Vocabulary Learning Approaches : Framework, Learner Approach and Degree of Success

        For this study a new memory-based vocabulary strategic learning framework was constructed involving four essential stages for vocabulary learning which can be translated into four corresponding strategy-driven processes that execute learning actions. A questionnaire study was conducted with Chinese university EFL learners who shared a similar background and learning context at the macro level, guided by four research questions: (1) can the memory-based strategic vocabulary learning framework be employed to classify learners’ vocabulary learning strategies (VLS) satisfactorily?, (2) what strategies do Chinese university students use for learning vocabulary items?, (3) what are the learner clusters among Chinese university students regarding their use of VLS?, and (4) how are learners’ vocabulary learning approaches related to their language achievement? It is found that learners’ VLS use is very contextualised and subject to change due to many factors. A micro language-rich environment, where there is out of class reading and meaningful social interaction, is a key to high vocabulary achievement in an EFL context. The cluster analysis revealed a non-linear, complicated relationship between VLS use and vocabulary learning success. In addition, gender has a prominent impact on VLS use; however, the impact of learners’ discipline on VLS use is unclear and needs further investigation.

      • CREATING A "THIRD SPACE" : MAGICAL REALISM IN TONIMORRISON'S EARLY NOVELS

        Toni Morrison’s portrayal for African American’s living conditions and her elaborate arrangements are frequently discussed in African American literature in a way that reconstruct postcolonialist concerns from the persp ective of history in the United States. The postcolonial theorist Homi Bha bha points out a “third space” through which the regeneration of meaning needs cultural positionality and cultural reference to be mobilized in the passageway. This paper, from a new perspective of a “third space,” explor es Morrison’s magical realism as a possibility to investigate the traumatic real of the institutionalized slavery and ideologized racism in a white dom inated society. In Morrison’s early novels, those issues are tactically discu ssed through her magical realism which creates a “third Space.” This pape r, through examining magical realism from the perspective of a “third Spa ce,” attempts to unravel Morrison’s hybridity and complexity, and explore how she visualizes the shadow and speaks the unspeakable. Morrison’s na rratives seem to be magical while they are actually real. In her early novel s, she repeatedly utilizes the magical myth, folklore, and fragmentation to generate the authentic real related to the slavery history as well as the cur rent white dominated society.

        A Study on the Marine Environmental Management Capacity of China’s Shandong Peninsula

        해양경제는 국가경제의 중요한 부문을 차지하고 있고, 이제 한 국가의 경제사회 발전은 해양산업과 분리할 수 없는 시점에 도달하였다. 자연적 요인으로서 해양환경은 인간의 삶과 발전에 전체적 및 지역적 영향을 미치고 있다. 해양환경은 자원 및 가치로서의 경제적 특징들을 가지고 있기 때문에 이제 해양환경관리능력은 필수적인 것으로 되었다. 지속적이고 안정적인 경제발전을 위해, 해양환경관리는 개발과 자원 및 인간과 환경의 관계에 초점을 맞추고 있다. 해양력 강화는 궁극적으로 한 국가의 종합 경쟁력을 강화하는 수단이며, 해양의 지속 가능한 개발을 도모하기 위해서는 지속적인 해양환경관리의 중요성이 강조된다. 본 논문에서는 중국의 산동반도 해양환경관리실태를 사례분석하였다. 산둥반도의 해양환경 관련 제도수립 및 인적자원양성 등을 고찰하고, 해양환경관리의 문제점들을 지적 분석하고, 대응방안을 제시하고자 하였다. Marine economy is an important component of national economic, the national economic and social development inseparable from the marine industry. The marine environmental as a natural factors affecting human life and development, and has many characteristics, such as holistic and regional. Because the marine environmental with the economic characteristics of the resource and the value, its specificity to the marine environmental management become necessary. For the lasting and stable development of the economy, the marine environmental management focuses on development and resources, and the relationship between humans and the environment. Sea power in the world continue to rely on marine environmental management and upgrading national comprehensive competitiveness, which highlights the important status in the marine environmental management in marine sustainable development. In this paper a case study of China’s Shandong Peninsula(山東半島) marine environmental management, proceeding from the system construction and the human resources construction, analyses the present situation of the marine environmental management, points out problems existing in the marine environmental management, and puts forward corresponding countermeasures and suggestions.

        Ultrastructural Study on Induced Resistance of Cucumber Plants against Sphaerotheca fuliginea by Oligochitosan

        The induced resistance of cucumber leaves treated with oligochitosan to the infection of the cucumber powdery mildew, Sphaerotheca fuliginea, was investigated using transmission electron microscopy. The results showed that when the plants were treated with oligochitosan and challenged with inoculum, a significant decrease of the disease occurred. The mycelial development in the treated leaves was markedly inhibited. The cytoplasm of the powdery mildew mycelium was aggregated, with its organelles disintegrated and the cytoplasm collapsed. The protoplasm in haustoria became electron-dense. Haustoria became malformed, their organelles disintegrated,the hausterial wall thickened and eventually the whole complex necrotized. The host cells produced defence structures and materials associated with infection and a hypersensitive response. The host cell wall was thickened and deeply stained; several layers of papilla structure were produced under the cell wall; dark materials were deposited between the cell wall and plasmalemma; extrahaustorial plasmalemma was deeply stained and extrahaustorial matrix appositions had large deposits of electron-dense material; the cytoplasm was disordered, host organelles disintegrated and eventually the whole host cell disintegrated and necrotized.

Soc. 43 (2006), No. 3, pp. 563–578) and can be used in the analysis of various problems in the theory of certain classes of differential equations and integral equations. Applications examples are also indicated.
