This paper deals with the electromagnetic and thermal analysis of high speed induction motor. The induction motor is analyzed by time-varying magnetic finite element method and its thermal analysis is carried out by using analytical lumped-circuit method. Analysis results are compared with the experiment of 29kW high speed motor prototype at 12,000rpm.

The characteristics of an induction motor vary with the number of parameters and the performance relationship between the parameters also is implicit. In case of the induction motor design, we generally should estimate many objective physical quantities in the optimization procedure. In this article, the multi objective design optimization based on genetic algorithm is applied for the three phase induction motor. The efficiency, starting torque, and material cost are selected for the objectives. The validity of the design results is also clarified by comparison between calculated results and measured ones

This paper presents the efficient 2-D linear brake analysis model which can compensate the lateral leakage flux by changingng the airgap length and magneto-motive force(MMF). The linkage flux of the 2-D analysis is larger than that of 3-D analysis. This is caused by the assumption in 2-D analysis that geometric and physical values are constant along the perpendicular direction(z) to the analysis region. The equivalent MMF have been calculated from the linkage flux difference between the 2-D and 3-D analyses which are performed at zero velocity. The performances of the linear brake have been analyzed effectively by using the compensated 2-D models without using 3-D FEM.

Copper die casting motor (CDM) has a better design flexibility than aluminium die casting motor (ADM) because of the higher conductivity of copper. However, CDM has an economic and manufacturing weak point due to high copper price and high melting temperature compared to ADM. This paper describes a comparison of the design parameters, specifications, performances and material cost between CDM and ADM of 5.5kW_6P.

OBJECTIVE: Limited availability of tumoral tissue in non-small-cell lung cancer and presence of epidermal growth factor receptor mutation-independent responses call for investigation of other molecular predictive marker of gefitinib responsiveness. Therefore, CA repeat polymorphism in intron 1 was analyzed for its association with gefitinib responsiveness together with epidermal growth factor receptor mutation in Korean patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: For 86 advanced non-small-cell lung cancer patients treated with gefitinib, epidermal growth factor receptor mutation was analyzed by direct sequencing (exons 18–21) from tumor tissue and CA repeat polymorphism was assessed by fragment length analysis from tumor and/or normal tissue. RESULTS: CA repeat status was identical in 33 patients with matched tumor and normal tissue. CA repeat was low (sum of both alleles ≤37) in 40 (46.5%) and high (sum ≥38) in 46 (53.5%) patients. Although epidermal growth factor receptor mutation was more frequent in high CA repeat patients [17.5% (7/40) in low vs. 28.3% (13/46) in high, P=0.18], response rate was higher in low CA repeat patients [25.0% (10/40) in low vs. 13.0% (6/46) in high, P=0.16]. In multivariate analysis, low CA repeat was associated with better objective response (odds ratio 7.1, 95% confidence interval 1.2–40.8; P=0.029) and time-to-progression (hazard ratio 0.54, 95% confidence interval 0.34–0.88; P=0.014), independent of the epidermal growth factor receptor mutational status. CA repeat status was not associated with epidermal growth factor receptor expression. CONCLUSION: Low number of CA repeats in intron 1 of epidermal growth factor receptor is associated with gefitinib responsiveness in non-small-cell lung cancer patients independent of epidermal growth factor receptor mutation.
