        Synthesis and Characterization of KTiNbO<sub>5</sub> Nano-particles by Novel Polymerizable Complex Method

        The layered $KTiNbO_5$ was successfully synthesized with titanium(IV) isopropoxide and niobium oxalate by a novel polymerized complex (PC) method. The morphology and structure of the as-prepared sample was characterized by means of High-Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope, powder X-ray diffraction, and Laser Raman Spectroscopy. The spectral response characteristic was recorded by using UV-vis Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy. Results show that $KTiNbO_5$ as-prepared by PC method presents an uniform morphology of nano-particles, the mean particle sizes is ca. 28 nm corresponding to the (002), and the crystal structure can be well indexed to the orthorhombic phase. The sample as-prepared by PC method has higher band gap energy than that of the sample prepared by a solid-state reaction method due to the quantum size effect.

        Multibiometrics fusion using Aczel-Alsina triangular norm

        Fusing the scores of multibiometrics is a very promising approach to improve the overall system`s accuracy and the verification performance. In recent years, there are several approaches towards studying score level fusion of several biometric systems. However, most of them does not consider the genuine and imposter score distributions and result in a higher equal error rate usually. In this paper, a novel score level fusion approach of different biometric systems (dual iris, thermal and visible face traits) based on Aczel-Alsina triangular norm is proposed. It achieves higher identification performance as well as acquires a closer genuine distance and larger imposter distance. The experimental tests are conducted on a virtual multibiometrics database, which merges the challenging CASIA-Iris-Thousand database with noisy samples and the NVIE face database with visible and thermal face images. The rigorous results suggest that significant performance improvement can be achieved after the implementation of multibiometrics. The comparative experiments also ascertain that the proposed fusion approach outperforms the state-of-art verification performance.

        <P>The short palate, lung and nasal epithelial clone 1 (SPLUNC1) protein is a member of the palate, lung, and nasal epithelium clone (PLUNC) family, also known as bactericidal/permeability-increasing (BPI) fold-containing protein, family A, member 1 (BPIFA1). SPLUNC1 is an abundant protein in human airways, but its function remains poorly understood. The lipid ligands of SPLUNC1 as well as other PLUNC family members are largely unknown, although some reports provide evidence that lipopolysaccharide (LPS) could be a lipid ligand. Unlike previous hypotheses, we found significant structural differences between SPLUNC1 and BPI. Recombinant SPLUNC1 produced in HEK 293 cells harbored several molecular species of sphingomyelin and phosphatidylcholine as its ligands. Significantly, <I>in vitro</I> lipid-binding studies failed to demonstrate interactions between SPLUNC1 and LPS, lipoteichoic acid, or polymyxin B. Instead, one of the major and most important pulmonary surfactant phospholipids, dipalmitoylphosphatidylcholine (DPPC), bound to SPLUNC1 with high affinity and specificity. We found that SPLUNC1 could be the first protein receptor for DPPC. These discoveries provide insight into the specific determinants governing the interaction between SPLUNC1 and lipids and also shed light on novel functions that SPLUNC1 and other PLUNC family members perform in host defense.—Ning, F., Wang, C., Berry, K.         Hydraulic regenerative braking system studies based on a nonlinear dynamic model of a full vehicle

        To obtain a reasonable match of the main parameters of a hydraulic regenerative braking system and to improve the energy recovery efficiency, this paper establishes the corresponding mathematical models and testbed for a hydraulic regenerative braking system. The proposed system is analysed and verified through simulation and experiments. Then, the linear and nonlinear mathematical models of a full vehicle are built, with joint simulation of the hydraulic regenerative braking system, and the influence of the hydraulic regenerative braking system on braking performance under different running conditions is discussed. The results indicate that the deviations in the simulation results between the linear and nonlinear dynamic models are very small. When the brake deceleration and road adhesion coefficient are 0.2, deviations are within 1.38 %. With an increase in the braking deceleration and road adhesion coefficient, the deviations in braking time and distance between the systems become larger and larger. When the braking deceleration and road adhesion coefficient are 0.7, the deviation reaches 30 %. Finally, with braking energy recovery efficiency and braking distance as the optimization objectives, the nonlinear braking energy recovery system parameters are optimized. After optimization, the energy recovery efficiency of the nonlinear system reaches 76.3 %, and the braking distance is 22.8 m.

      • Mechanistic Analysis of Taxol-induced Multidrug Resistance in an Ovarian Cancer Cell Line

        Objectives: To establish a taxol-resistant cell line of human ovarian carcinoma (A2780/Taxol) and investigate its biological features. Methods: The drug-resistant cell line (A2780/Taxol) was established by continuous stepwise selection with increasing concentrations of Taxol. Cell morphology was assessed by microscopy and growth curves were generated with in vitro and in vivo tumor xenograft models. With rhodamine123 (Rh123) assays, cell cycle distribution and the apoptotic rate were analyzed by flow cytometry (FCM). Drug resistance-related and signal associated proteins, including P-gp, MRPs, caveolin-1, PKC-${\alpha}$, Akt, ERK1/2, were detected by Western blotting. Results: A2780/Taxol cells were established with stable resistance to taxol. The drug resistance index (RI) was 430.7. Cross-resistance to other drugs was also shown, but there was no significant change to radioresistance. Compared with parental cells, A2780/Taxol cells were significantly heteromorphous, with a significant delay in population doubling time and reduced uptake of Rh123 (p<0.01). In vivo, tumor take by A2780 cells was 80%, and tumor volume increased gradually. In contrast, with A2780/Taxol cells in xenograft models there was no tumor development. FCM analysis revealed that A2780/Taxol cells had a higher percentage of G0/G1 and lower S phase, but no changes of G2 phase and the apoptosis rate. Expression of P-gp, MRP1, MRP2, BCRP, LRP, caveolin-1, PKC-${\alpha}$, Phospho-ERK1/2 and Phospho-JNK protein was significantly up-regulated, while Akt and p38 MARK protein expression was not changed in A2780/Taxol cells. Conclusion: The A2780/Taxol cell line is an ideal model to investigate the mechanism of muti-drug resistance related to overexpression of drug-resistance associated proteins and activation of the PKC-${\alpha}/ERK$ (JNK) signaling pathway.

      • Study on the Supporting Force of Water Spider and its Experimental Model on Water Surface

        Accuracy of designing and producing a micro-force measuring device is 0.1μN, through the device, the maximum supporting force of 5 living water spiders sample were measured, the maximum supporting force of living water striders is 24.8 times its weight. Water spider has large supporting force on water surface, super-hydrophobic structures of water spider legs play important role. designing and producing 5 water strider models, whose legs were made of aluminum wire with 0.45mm diameter, super-hydrophobic processing to surfaces of aluminum wire, its contact angle is 154.5°, experimentally measured that the maximum supporting force of 5 water spider models. Through mechanical analysis, established supporting force mathematical model of the water spider model on water surface, according to the model calculated the maximum supporting force of water spider model. Compare errors between measured values and calculated values of supporting forces, the ratio of the error value is less than 8.39%, verified the correctness the mathematical model of supporting force .

        Fabrication of hierarchical structures on concrete surfaces with superhydrophobicity using replicated micro-nano dendritic structures

        Concrete with superhydrophobicity can protect it from being eroded by water and reduce accumulationof dust. Herein, a green and efficient method was proposed for fabricating hierarchical structures on concretesurfaces with superhydrophobicity by directly replicating micro-nano dendritic structures fromsuperhydrophobic copper mesh to fresh concrete. Microstructures, chemical compositions and wettabilityof the as-fabricated concrete were characterized. Superhydrophobicity of the as-fabricated concretewas studied. Effect of water jet on the as-fabricated concrete was investigated. Wetting durability ofthe as-fabricated concrete were studied. Self-cleaning property was confirmed. It was found that owingto the successful replication of micro-nano dendritic structures and low surface energy stearic acid, theas-fabricated concrete displayed good superhydrophobicity, wetting durability and self-cleaningproperty.

        Skin Lesion Image Segmentation Based on Adversarial Networks

        Traditional methods based active contours or region merging are powerless in processing images with blurring border or hair occlusion. In this paper, a structure based convolutional neural networks is proposed to solve segmentation of skin lesion image. The structure mainly consists of two networks which are segmentation net and discrimination net. The segmentation net is designed based U-net that used to generate the mask of lesion, while the discrimination net is designed with only convolutional layers that used to determine whether input image is from ground truth labels or generated images. Images were obtained from “Skin Lesion Analysis Toward Melanoma Detection” challenge which was hosted by ISBI 2016 conference. We achieved segmentation average accuracy of 0.97, dice coefficient of 0.94 and Jaccard index of 0.89 which outperform the other existed state-of-the-art segmentation networks, including winner of ISBI 2016 challenge for skin melanoma segmentation.
