      • Inflammation, Oxidative Stress and L-Fucose as Indispensable Participants in Schistosomiasis-Associated Colonic Dysplasia

Soliman, Nema Ali,Keshk, Walaa Arafa,Shoheib, Zeinab Salah,Ashour, Dalia Salah,Shamloula, Maha Moustafa Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.3

Background: Schistosomiasis is a parasitic disease causing chronic ill health in humans with a serious consequences for socio-economic development in tropical and subtropical regions. There is also evidence linking Schistosoma mansoni to colonic carcinoma occurrence. The aim of this study was to evaluate some inflammatory and oxidative stress biomarkers, as well as L-fucose as linkers between intestinal schistosomiasis and colonic dysplasia development in mice. Materials and Methods: This study was conducted upon 80 mice that were divided the control group (10 non infected mice) and infected group which was subdivided into 7 sub-groups (10 mice each) according to the time of sacrifaction in the post infection (p.i.) period, 10 mice being sacrificed every two weeks from 6 weeks p.i. to 18 weeks p.i. Tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-${\alpha}$), inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS), and pentraxin 3 (PTX3) levels were estimated by immunoassay. The L-fucose level, and thioredoxin reductase (TrxR) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) activities were also evaluated in colonic tissue. Results: The current study revealed statistically significant elevation in the studied biochemical markers especially at 16 and 18 weeks p.i. The results were confirmed by histopathological examination that revealed atypical architectural and cytological changes in the form of epithelial surface serration and nuclear hyper-chromatizia at 14, 16 and 18 weeks p.i. Conclusions: inflammation, oxidative stress and L-fucose together may form an important link between Schistosomal mansoni infection and colonic dysplasia and they can be new tools for prediction of colonic dysplasia development in experimental schistosomiasis.

      • Effect of NUCKS-1 Overexpression on Cytokine Profiling in Obese Women with Breast Cancer

Soliman, Nema Ali,Zineldeen, Doaa Hussein,El-Khadrawy, Osama Helmy Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2014 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.15 No.2

Background: Overweight and obesity are recognized as major drivers of cancers including breast cancer. Several cytokines, including interleukin-6 (IL-6), IL-10 and lipocalin 2 (LCN2), as well as dysregulated cell cycle proteins are implicated in breast carcinogenesis. The nuclear, casein kinase and cyclin-dependent kinase substrate-1 (NUCKS-1), is a nuclear DNA-binding protein that has been implicated in several human cancers, including breast cancer. Objectives: The present study was conducted to evaluate NUCKS-1 mRNA expression in breast tissue from obese patients with and without breast cancer and lean controls. NUCKS-1 expression was correlated to cytokine profiles as prognostic and monitoring tools for breast cancer, providing a molecular basis for a causal link between obesity and risk. Materials and Methods: This study included 39 females with breast cancer (G III) that was furtherly subdivided into two subgroups according to cancer grading (G IIIa and G IIIb) and 10 control obese females (G II) in addition to 10 age-matched healthy lean controls (G I). NUCKS-1 expression was studied in breast tissue biopsies by means of real-time PCR (RT-PCR). Serum cytokine profiles were determined by immunoassay. Lipid profiles and glycemic status as well as anthropometric measures were also recorded for all participants. Results: IL-6, IL-12 and LCN2 were significantly higher in control obese and breast cancer group than their relevant lean controls (p<0.05), while NUCKS-1 mRNA expression was significantly higher in the breast cancer group compared to the other groups (p<0.05). Significant higher levels of IL-6, IL-12, and LCN2 as well as NUCKS-1 mRNA levels were reported in G IIIb than G IIIa, and positively correlated with obesity markers in all obese patients. Conclusions: Evaluation of cytokine levels as well as related gene expression may provide a new tool for understanding interactions for three axes of carcinogenesis, innate immunity, inflammation and cell cycling, and hope for new strategies of management.

Time Shifted Pilot Signal Transmission With Pilot Hopping To Improve The Uplink Performance of Massive MIMO System For Next Generation Network

( Amrita Ruperee ),( Shikha Nema ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2019 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.13 No.9

The paucity of pilot signals in Massive MIMO system is a vital issue. To accommodate substantial number of users, pilot signals are reused. This leads to interference, resulting in pilot contamination and degrades channel estimation at the Base Station (BS). Hence, mitigation of pilot contamination is exigency in Massive MIMO system. The proposed Time Shifted Pilot Signal Transmission with Pilot signal Hopping (TSPTPH), addresses the pilot contamination issue by transmitting pilot signals in non-overlapping time interval with hopping of pilot signals in each transmission slot. Hopping is carried by switching user to new a pilot signal in each transmission slot, resulting in random change of interfering users. This contributes to the change in channel coefficient, which leads to improved channel estimation at the BS and therefore enhances the efficiency of Massive MIMO system. In this system, Uplink Signal Power to Interference plus Noise Power Ratio (SINR) and data-rate are calculated for pilot signal reuse factor 1 and 3, by estimating the channel with Least Square estimation. The proposed system also reduces the uplink Signal power for data transmission of each User Equipment for normalized spectral efficiency with rising number of antennas at the BS and thus improves battery life.

Estrus Behavior and Superovulatory Response in Black Bengal Goats (Capra hircus) Following Administration of Prostaglandin and Gonadotropins

        Mishra, O.P.,Gawande, P.G.,Nema, R.K.,Tiwari, S.K. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2004 Animal Bioscience Vol.17 No.10

The present study was conducted to explore the possibilities of estrus induction and superovulation in a native Indian breed of goats called 'Black Bengal'. Forty-two adult non-pregnant females were divided in two groups, of which 18 goats were subjected to a superovulatory treatment comprising of equine chorionic gonadotropin (eCG), Prostaglandin (PGF2$\alpha$) and human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) to induce superovulation. The remaining 24 goats received no treatment and served as controls for the parameter under study as well as recipients for embryo transfer studies. The average duration of estrus was found to be significantly increased in treated goats (34.2${\pm}$3.4 h) compared to controls 3.0${\pm}$2.4 h). The average duration between PGF administration and occurrence of estrus was 2.0${\pm}$5.2 h. After mid ventral laparotomy, superovulatory responses indicated a significant increase in the number of follicles, which was 8.27${\pm}$0.37 in the treatment group compared to 4.16${\pm}$0.17 in the control group. The number of corpora lutea was also significantly increased in treated animals compared to control (2.90${\pm}$0.86 vs. 0.74${\pm}$0.04) respectively per ovary per goat.

Recent advances in valorization of citrus fruits processing waste: a way forward towards environmental sustainability

        Shweta Suri,Anupama Singh,Prabhat K. Nema 한국식품과학회 2021 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.30 No.13

Citrus fruits are well known for their medicinaland therapeutic potential due to the presence of immensebioactive components. With the enormous consumption ofcitrus juice, citrus processing industries are focused on theproduction of juice but at the same time, a large amount ofwaste is produced mainly in the form of peel, seeds, pomace, and wastewater. This waste left after processingleads to environmental pollution and health-related hazards. However, it could be exploited for the recovery ofessential oils, pectin, nutraceuticals, macro and micronutrients, ethanol, and biofuel generation. In view of theimportance and health benefits of bioactive compoundsfound in citrus waste, the present review summarizes therecent work done on the citrus fruit waste valorization forrecovery of value-added compounds leading to zerowastage. Therefore, instead of calling it waste, these couldbe a good resource of significant valuable components, inthis way encouraging the zero-waste theory.

        Rachna Sehrawat,Barjinder Pal Kaur,Prabhat K. Nema,Somya Tewari,Lokesh Kumar 한국식품과학회 2021 Food Science and Biotechnology Vol.30 No.1

High-pressure processing (HPP) is a noveltechnology for the production of minimally processed foodproducts with better retention of the natural aroma, freshliketaste, additive-free, stable, convenient to use. In thisregard safety of products by microbial inactivation is likelyto become an important focus for food technologists fromthe research and industrial field. High pressure inducesconformational changes in the cell membranes, cell morphology. It perturbs biochemical reactions, as well as thegenetic mechanism of the microorganisms, thus ensures thereduction in the microbial count. Keeping in view thecommercial demand of HPP products, the scientific literatureavailable on the mechanism of inactivation by highpressure and intrinsic and extrinsic factors affecting theefficiency of HPP are systematically and critically analyzedin this review to develop a clear understanding of theseissues. Modeling applied to study the microbial inactivationkinetics by HPP is also discussed for the benefit ofinterested readers.

ACE inhibiton activity of standardized extract and fractions of Terminalia bellerica

        Chaudhary, Sushil Kumar,Mukherjee, Pulok K.,Nema, Neelesh Kumar,Bhadra, Santanu,Saha, B.P. 경희한의학연구센터 2012 Oriental Pharmacy and Experimental Medicine Vol.12 No.4

The fruit of Terminalia bellerica L. (Combretaceae) is an important ingredient of 'Triphala', which is a popular Ayurvedic formulation traditionally used to treat hypertension, to reduce cardiac depression and to decreases the risk factors associated with the heart. This study aimed to investigate the angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitory activity of T. bellerica. Standardized hydro alcoholic extract (TBHA) and its various subfractions including hexane fraction (TBH), ethyl acetate fraction (TBE), n-butanol fraction (TBB) and aqueous fraction (TBW) at the concentration of 10-1000 ${\mu}g/ml$ together with standard Captopril 3.6 ng/ml was compared. TBE fraction was undertaken to isolate the gallic acid. Further quantification of gallic acid in the crude extract and fractions was made with HPLC. Among all fractions the activity was found to be maximum in TBE with an $IC_{50}=338.54{\pm}18.34{\mu}g/ml$ while crude TBHA and other fractions TBB, TBH and TBW were found less potent. Isolated gallic acid from the TBE fraction shown ACE inhibitory activity with $IC_{50}$ of $257.29{\pm}9.39{\mu}g/ml$. TBE found to contain maximum amount of gallic acid ($71.05{\pm}6.274$ mg/g of extract). The presence of gallic acid along with other metabolites in the extract and fractions might be responsible for the ACE inhibitory activity. T. bellerica extract/fractions suggested its suitability as a functional food for pharmaceutical purpose to be used against hypertension and other related diseases.
