Laparoscopic Management of a Cystic Duct Cyst

Aims: Choledochal cysts are rare cystic dilatations of the biliary tree. These cysts are usually referred for surgical resection because of their association with developing malignancy. We describe one rare case of a cyst of the cystic duct that we successfully treated via laparoscopic resection. Methods: A 43-year-old male was found to have a biliary abnormality on a routine follow-up computed tomography (CT) scan for an unrelated medical condition. Further magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography (MRCP) imaging identified a cystic dilation consistent with a Type II choledochal cyst. Results: Laparoscopic resection was performed using a total of 5 trocars, at which time a cyst of the cystic duct was found instead of the expected Type II choledochal cyst. Intraoperative cholangiography was used as a surgical adjunct to confirm the anatomy, and resection of the cyst was completed without complications. Conclusions: Our case adds to the body of reports showing that cysts of the cystic duct, while extremely rare, do occur and need to be recognized. Given the preoperative similarity between cystic duct cysts and other choledochal cysts, proposal for a new “Type VI” category for choledochal cysts may be considered so that clinicians can be prepared for this variation. Once recognized, cysts of the cystic duct can be safely and effectively removed by laparoscopic excision, as we have demonstrated.
Comparison of Two Transarterial Chemoembolization Strategies for Hepatocellular Carcinoma

Aims: This retrospective study aimed to compare the efficacy of and tolerance to two center-related conventional transarterial chemoembolization (TACE) strategies in the management of unresectable hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: All HCC patients in whom TACE was initiated in the two centers from July 2008 to June 2016 were included. The TACE strategy performed in center 1 was “on demand” with selective injections of idarubicin, whereas the TACE strategy in center 2 was based “on scheduled” non-selective injections of epirubicin. Toxicity was evaluated using the National Cancer Institute Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events. Results: One hundred and fifty HCC patients were included. Median time to treatment failure was significantly higher in center 1, 13.1 months vs. 7.9 months in center 2 (hazard ratio, 2.32; P<10-3 in multivariate analysis). Median overall survival was 21.1 months in center 1 vs. 18.4 months in center 2 (P=NS). The proportion of grade ≥ 3 adverse events and mean hospitalisation duration for the overall TACE treatment were significantly greater in center 2 than in center 1: 56% vs. 32% (P<0.01) and 14.2 ± 7.2 days vs. 10.3 ± 7.0 days (P<0.01), respectively. Conclusions: Our results failed to show any significant survival differences between two center-related TACE strategies but showed a significantly smaller proportion of grade ≥ 3 adverse events and shorter hospitalisation for the overall treatment when the “on-demand” strategy was used.

<P>The terbium-activated yttrium tantalite (YTaO(4):Tb(3+)) phosphor is of great interest due to the interesting spectroscopic properties of rare earth ions in crystals and also practical use in x-ray imaging. Using the group-theoretical approach, we analyze the selection rules for the transition between Stark components of Tb(3+) in symmetry of the actual crystal field and the polarization for the allowed transitions. The luminescence upon UV, vacuum-ultraviolet (VUV), and x-ray excitation is presented and discussed. The YTaO(4):Tb(3+) phosphors are found to be efficient VUV-excited luminescent materials that could be used not only in x-ray intensifying screens, but also in mercury-free fluorescent lamps or plasma display panels.</P>
Efficient multiphase green phosphor based on strontium thiogallate

<P>Efficient multiphase green phosphors based on strontium thiogallate were synthesized by solid state reaction at 900-1000 degrees C with carbon as a reduction atmosphere. The detailed x-ray diffraction analysis, energy dispersive spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy, and photoluminescence were carried out in order to enlarge the understanding of the radiative processes in multiphase green phosphors based on strontium thiogallate. The crystal field splitting, Stokes shift, redshift, and centroidal shift were estimated, and the results are in good agreement with mathematical calculations. Our study confirms that the proposed multiphase green phosphor based on strontium thiogallate is a good candidate for solid state lighting and display devices with higher intensity and better chromaticity coordinates in comparison with the known commercial phosphors. Luminescence and Raman studies of YNbO4 phosphors doped by Eu3+, Ga3+, and Al3+

<P>Efficient phosphors based on YNbO4 and doped by Eu3+, Ga3+, and Al3+ were synthesized with different fluxes under different thermal conditions and investigated under x-ray excitation and Raman spectroscopy. The samples codoped by Al3+ and Ga3+ show higher intensity under x-ray excitation in comparison with YNbO4:Eu3+ phosphors. The model of redistribution energy transfer from D-5(1) level to F-7(J) is proposed. Monoclinic fergusonite crystal structure and excellent luminescent properties under x-ray excitation allow recommend these phosphors as good candidates for different applications. Organic and inorganic carbon-14 in discharges of JSC Institute of Nuclear Materials

The aim of the study is the activity concentration measurements of organic and inorganic <sup>14</sup>C in the discharges of JSC "Institute of Nuclear Materials" (INM). In INM the research water-water reactor "IVV-2M" is operating. Collecting of <sup>14</sup>C species was performed using a <sup>14</sup>C sampler with a chromium oxide and platinum catalysts at different temperatures: 400, 550 and 700 ℃. The measurements of <sup>14</sup>C activity were performed using a liquid scintillation counter. The share of organic <sup>14</sup>C in emissions ranged from 0.30 to 0.84 and depends on the temperature of the catalyst, core structure and reactor operating mode.
СОЦИОКУЛЬТУРНОЕ ВОЗРОЖДЕНИЕ КОРЕЙСКОЙ ДИАСПОРЫ В КРАСНОДАРСКОМ КРАЕ

The article examines the process of the revival of the Korean diaspora and culture in the Krasnodar Territory. The author notes that since the 1990s. Various Korean associations operate on the territory of the Krasnodar Territory. Most activities are associated with the spread and preservation of Korean culture. It is concluded that the socio-cultural revival of Koreans on the territory of the Krasnodar Territory is rather complex. On the one hand, federal and regional legislation is being improved to promote the development of Korean culture, language, etc. On the other hand, many researchers state a certain passivity of the Koreans themselves, who with their activities do not cover all the settlements of the Krasnodar Territory, but only the areas of the most compact residence of Koreans. And nevertheless, one cannot fail to point out that the Korean diaspora was one of the first to take the initiative to unite the national communities of the region in order to maintain not only cultural heritage, but also to ensure tolerant relations between different nationalities.
