Monitoring of a CFRP-Stiffened Panel Manufactured by VaRTM Using Fiber-Optic Sensors
Takeda, Shin-Ichi,Mizutani, Tadahito,Nishi, Takafumi,Uota, Naoki,Hirano, Yoshiyasu,Iwahori, Yutaka,Nagao, Yosuke,Takeda, Nobuo The Korean Society for Composite Materials 2008 Advanced composite materials Vol.17 No.2
FBG (Fiber Bragg Grating) sensors and optical fibers were embedded into CFRP dry preforms before resin impregnation in VaRTM (Vacuum-assisted Resin Transfer Molding). The embedding location was the interface between the skin and the stringer in a CFRP-stiffened panel. The reflection spectra of the FBG sensors monitored the strain and temperature changes during all the molding processes. The internal residual strains of the CFRP panel could be evaluated during both the curing time and the post-curing time. The temperature changes indicated the differences between the dry preform and the outside of the vacuum bagging. After the molding, four-point bending was applied to the panel for the verification of its structural integrity and the sensor capabilities. The optical fibers were then used for the newly-developed PPP-BOTDA (Pulse-PrePump Brillouin Optical Time Domain Analysis) system. The long-range distributed strain and temperature can be measured by this system, whose spatial resolution is 100 mm. The strain changes from the FBGs and the PPP-BOTDA agreed well with those from the conventional strain gages and FE analysis in the CFRP panel. Therefore, the fiber-optic sensors and its system were very effective for the evaluation of the VaRTM composite structures.
Management of Aesthetic intentions in Urban Design -Artworks in Urban Public Space-
Takeda, Naoki,Yagi, Kentaro The Korean Institute of Landscape Architecture 2001 Journal of the Korean institute of landscape archi Vol.1 No.-
After World War II, Japan experienced a great political and social shift, which brought a concern of emerging public landscape in urban development. This paper analyses the management of the aesthetic intentions in urban design effort. We reviewed the development of various public installation of artworks concerning urban landscape aesthetics through its administrative process in chronological order. The monuments during the first decade marked a shift in emphasis from the militarism of the pre-war and wartime period to one of peace. However, some of the monuments and sculptures are not immune to controversy. This became an issue that could no be ignored by public officials whose responsibility was to place the sculptures while maintaining sensitivity to public opinion. As public administrators began to consider the possibility that sculptures may contribute to improving public amenities, the contextual concepts were basically ignored. Some of the programs in 1970s began to show more respect to the context, while other programs in this period expressed more interest in educational aspects of sculptures in the public spaces. Urban development projects also seek to introduce artworks integrated to their urban design concepts in 1990s. Generally, the administrators responsible for these programs were rarely trained in any relative field study other than public administration. Installing sculptures tended to be considered as part of public works projects on the level of urban planning and construction. The general public is basically removed from participating in the critical decisions that actually impact their lives in relation to the artworks. In conclusion, public art in japan has unique social and historic background both in its advantages and disadvantages. Issues pertaining to art in public spaces have evolved over the decades as the term "sculpture pollution" began to appear by the mid 1990s. most of the problems originated in either the lack of monumentality, contextual consideration, quality, or public participation. From another point of view, these programs played great roll in the development of modern Japanese sculpture and patronizing process, and the creation of new urban landscape with aesthetic value. In this sense, they must be considered as successful and noteworthy examples of cultural administration and urban design policy.

Background/Aims: Digital single-operator cholangioscopy (DSOC)-guided mapping biopsy (DMB) and tube-assisted mapping biopsy(TMB) are two techniques used for preoperative evaluation of biliary tract cancer (BTC). However, data regarding the diagnostic performanceof these techniques are limited. Methods: We retrospectively examined consecutive patients with BTC who underwent either technique at our institution between2018 and 2020. We evaluated the technical success rate, adequate tissue acquisition rate, and diagnostic performance of these techniquesfor the evaluation of lateral spread of BTC. Results: A total of 54 patients were included in the study. The technical success rate of reaching the target sites was 95% for DMB and100% for TMB. The adequate tissue acquisition rate was 61% for DMB and 69% for TMB. The adequate tissue acquisition rate was low, especially for target sites beyond the secondary biliary radicles. The sensitivity of DMB alone was 39%, which improved to 65% whencombined with visual impression. Experts demonstrated a higher negative predictive value and diagnostic accuracy with respect toboth DSOC visual impression and DMB for the evaluation of lateral spread of BTC compared to trainees. Conclusions: Adequate tissue acquisition rates were similar between the two techniques. Since DMB requires expertise, TMB may bean acceptable option when DSOC is unavailable or when DSOC expertise is limited.

We studied a welding inspection for alternator"s rectifier with image processing. The point ishow to apply the SVM method to the area and contrast of the welding extracted by the difference of good work-pieces. Usually, the judgment boundary of MahalanobisDistance isassumed to be a midway line from the good one"s distribution and the defective one"s distribution. But, the boundary has a problem that misjudged defective one to the good one. To solve this, we applied SVM (Support Vector Machine) with the process capability index.
Study on Evaluation of Coppice Landscape Depend on Healthiness of Plants

It is increasing scenery created as a result of pine wilt disease. The purpose of this study is to investigate the local resident's awareness against the scenery caused by pine wilt disease in their neighboring area, through the questionnaire investigation. The result showed that more than $40\%$ of the residents are not aware of such scenery in their local area, and about 30% of the residents did not know that those trees were dying. More than $40\%$ of the people do not know of the pine wilt disease as a general argument. Another question showed that the recognition of such scenery depends on the distance of the viewer. General residents don't worry about such scenery in the far distance in fact some of them think those are colored leaves. However, the nearer they see the trees, the higher they have negative feeling against it.

To clarify a low level of cellulose biosynthesis of the in vitro cultured cells, the effects of several biochemical factors such as carbon sources (sucrose, maltose, and UDPG), antioxidants (ascorbic acid and glutathione) and physical factors such as artificial pressure, high gravity, on the cellulose production in barley callus and suspension cultures were investigated. In the suspension culture of two barley strains, the supplement of different concentrations (0, 1.5, 3.0, and 4.5%) of sucrose or maltose into the medium for 30 days did not promote the cellulose production and 4.5% of sugar supplement was rather inhibitory in one strain. However, in the presence of sucrose at 3%, UDPG (3 or 10mM) supplement, as a precursor for cellulose, promoted 1.2∼13 fold of the production in two strains. A low concentration (3 mM) of ascorbic acid and glutathione promoted 1.5 and 1.2 fold of the production in two strains, respectively. These results suggest that low cellulose biosynthesis of the in vitro cultured cells is due to a decreased level of the UDPG in the cytosol, and that the oxidative condition of external medium impedes cellulose synthesis in some manners. Artificial pressure applied to the callus promoted 1.4 fold of the cellulose production. High gravity (5,000 or 10,000g) applied to the suspension-cultured cells by centrifugation did not cause a substantial change.

Background/Aims: Selective bile duct or pancreatic duct cannulation remains a significant initial hurdle in endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography (ERCP) despite advances in endoscopy and accessories. This study evaluated our experience with a rotatable sphincterotome in cases of difficult cannulation. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed ERCP cases using TRUEtome, a rotatable sphincterotome, as a rescue device for cannulation at a cancer institute in Japan from October 2014 to December 2021. Results: TRUEtome was used in 88 patients. Duodenoscopes were used for 51 patients, while single-balloon enteroscopes (SBE) were used for 37 patients. TRUEtome was used for biliary and pancreatic duct cannulation (84.1%), intrahepatic bile duct selection (12.5%), and strictures of the afferent limb (3.4%). Cannulation success rates were similar in the duodenoscope and SBE groups (86.3% vs. 75.7%, p=0.213). TRUEtome was more commonly used in cases with steep cannulation angles in the duodenoscope group and in cases requiring cannulation in different directions in the SBE group. There were no significant differences in adverse events between the two groups. Conclusions: The cannulation sphincterotome was useful for difficult cannulations in both unaltered and surgically altered anatomies. It may be an option to consider before high-risk procedures such as precut and endoscopic ultrasound-guided rendezvous techniques.

Background/Aims: Hepaticojejunostomy anastomotic stricture (HJAS) is a feared adverse event associated with hepatopancreatobiliary surgery. Although balloon dilation for benign HJAS during endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography with balloon-assisted enteroscopy has been reported to be useful, the treatment strategy remains controversial. Therefore, we evaluated the outcomes and risk factors of recurrent stenosis after balloon dilation alone for benign HJAS. Methods: We retrospectively analyzed consecutive patients who underwent balloon-assisted enteroscopy-endoscopic retrograde cholangiopancreatography for benign HJAS at our institution between July 2014 and December 2020. Results: Forty-six patients were included, 16 of whom had recurrent HJAS after balloon dilation. The patency rates at 1 and 2 years after balloon dilation were 76.8% and 64.2%, respectively. Presence of a residual balloon notch during balloon dilation was an independent predictor of recurrence (hazard ratio, 2.80; 95% confidence interval, 1.01–7.78; p=0.048), whereas HJAS within postoperative 1 year tended to be associated with recurrence (hazard ratio, 2.43; 95% confidence interval, 0.85–6.89; p=0.096). The patency rates in patients without a residual balloon notch were 82.1% and 73.1% after 1 and 2 years, respectively. Conclusions: Balloon dilation alone may be a viable option for patients with benign HJAS without residual balloon notches on fluoroscopy.
