Cutaneous metastases of internal malignancies are relatively rare and originate most frequently from tumors of the breast and lung. Herein, we present an unusual clinical presentation of a skin metastasis from a gastric signet-ring cell carcinoma in an adolescent. A 19-year-old boy presented with asymptomatic subcutaneous nodules on his abdomen and back. Histopathological examination revealed signet-ring cells with cytoplasmic mucin in the dermis. A diagnosis of cutaneous metastasis of a signet-ring cell carcinoma was made and the patient died 12 days after his initial visit to our dermatology clinic. Gastric carcinomas have infrequently been reported in adolescents, and cutaneous metastases from carcinomas in this group are extremely rare. Clinicians should be aware that skin metastases of adolescent gastric carcinoma can be similar in presentation to steatocystoma multiplex and that a skin biopsy is necessary for suspicious skin lesions. <P>To evaluate the pharmacokinetics of compound K after oral administration of HYFRG and RG in humans, an open-label, randomized, single-dose, fasting, and one-period pharmacokinetic study was conducted. After oral administration of a single 3 g dose of HYFRG and RG to 24 healthy Korean males, the mean (±SD) of AUC<SUB>0–<I>t</I></SUB> and <I>C</I><SUB>max</SUB> of compound K from HYFRG were 1466.83 ± 295.89 ng·h/mL and 254.45 ± 51.20 ng/mL, being 115.2- and 80-fold higher than those for RG (12.73 ± 7.83 ng·h/mL and 3.18 ± 1.70 ng/mL), respectively; in case of Sprague Dawley rats the mean (±SD) of AUC<SUB>0–<I>t</I></SUB> and <I>C</I><SUB>max</SUB> of compound K from HYFRG was 58.03 ± 32.53 ng·h/mL and 15.19 ± 10.69 ng/mL, being 6.3- and 6.0-fold higher than those from RG (9.21 ± 7.52 ng·h/mL and 2.55 ± 0.99 ng/mL), respectively. <I>T</I><SUB>max</SUB> of compound K in humans and rats was 2.54 ± 0.92 and 3.33 ± 0.50 h for HYFRG and 9.11 ± 1.45 and 6.75 ± 3.97 hours for RG, respectively. In conclusion, the administration of HYFRG resulted in a higher and faster absorption of compound K in both humans and rats compared to RG.</P>

<P>In inorganic nanowire memory, both physical features rendered during synthesis and integration processes and intrinsic properties of materials are important because they present appropriate schemes for facile fabrication of an excellent memory device. We demonstrate that silicon nanowires (Si NWs) synthesized by an electroless etching (EE) method intrinsically present memory behavior <I>via</I> charge trapping of water molecules due to the rough surface created during synthesis. Additionally, using an electrochemical reaction of silicon with AgNO<SUB>3</SUB> solution, which produces Ag nanoparticles (NPs) with a blocking SiO<SUB>2</SUB> layer, we easily achieve a Ag NP hybrid Si NW memory device.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Our manuscript addresses decorating Ag-NPs on the Si NWs. Background: Madelung’s disease (MD) is an uncommon, benign disorder characterized by the presence of multiple, symmetric deposits of unencapsulated adipose. The etiology of lipoma tissue in MD remains controversial. Objectives: The aim of this study is to investigate clinical and epidemiological features of Asian patients diagnosed with MD and compare these data to those of Mediterranean patients. Moreover, this article aims to re-examine the hypothesis that lipomas of MD originate from brown fat. Methods: A single-institution, retrospective medical record review was conducted of 20 patients who were diagnosed with MD between January 1997 and August 2017. We obtained biopsy slides and stained them with Nuclear Factor-1A (NFIA) and Uncoupling protein-1 (UCP-1). Results: The average of age was 64 and the most frequently affected area was neck. 2 patients (10%) were female, 10 patients were heavy drinkers of alcohol while 10 patients reported some degree of alcohol intake. 45% of patients have hepatic disease, only 25% of patients had a body mass index >25. Conclusion: The onset of Asian patients seems to higher than that of Mediterranean patients. Alcoholism, hepatic diseases and severe obesities are less prevalent in Asian patients with MD. Although both NFIA and UCP-1 are stained with adipose tissue in all patients, intensity of staining was variable. NFIA, which is a transcription factor required for brown fat-specific gene expression is more sensitive for the detection of brown fat.
