A simple and efficient way of modeling backgating in GaAs MESFET's is presented through depletion width modulation of Schottky junction and channel-substrate interface. It is shown semi-empirically that such a modulation of depletion widths causes serious troubles in designing precision circuits since backgating drastically reduces threshold voltage of MESFET as well as drain current. Finally, some of the results are compared with reported experimental results. This model may serve as a starting point for rigorous characterization of backgating effect on various device parameters of GaAs MESFET's.

This paper deals with the study of dichotomy and conditioning for two-point boundary value problems associated with first order matrix Lyapunov systems, with the help of Kronecker product of matrices. Further, we obtain close relationship between the stability bounds of the problem on one hand, and the growth behaviour of the fundamental matrix solution on the other hand.

Experiments on deactivation kinetics of immobilized lipase enzyme from Candida cyl-indracea were performed in stirred bath reactor using rice bran oil as the substrate and temperature as the deactivation parameter. The data were fitted In first order deactivation model. The effect of temperature on deactivation rate was represented by Arrhenius equation. Theoretical equations were developed based on pseudo-steady state approximation and Michaelis -Menten rate expression to predict the time course of conversion due to enzyme deactivation and apparent half-life of the immobilized enzyme activity in PFR and CSTH under constant feed rate polity for no diffusion limitation and diffusion limitation of first order. Stability of enzyme in these continuous reactors was predicted and factors affecting the stability were analyzed.
A Community and University Partnership for Rural Community Development

A School of Social Work has developed an innovative partnership with a rural midwestern community 15 miles away which has a diverse population. Faculty and students have built relationships with community leaders and participated in a variety of community projects and learning experiences. Results of prelimninary evaluation show that the partnership has enriched the curriculum of the School and in turn has contributed to the community's development efforts.

Tensile, creep, and automated ball indentation (ABI) tests have been conducted to study deformation mechanisms in Sn5%Sb alloy between ambient and 473 K. A power law relationship was obtained between minimum creep rate and applied stress, with stress exponent, n=5 and activation energy, Q=12.6±1.1 kCal/mole. At 473 K, a transition from n=5 to n=3 was observed at low stresses. ABI tests showed a power law relationship between strain rate and ultimate tensile stress with values of n=5 and Q=13.0±1.8 kcal/mole. Tensile results were in broad agreement with the creep and ABI data. A new deformation mechanism is proposed for the n=5 region involving viscous glide of dislacations assisted by dislocatian care diffusion.
Hydrolysis of Rice Bran Oil Using Immobilized Lipase in a Stirred-Batch Reactor

Candida cylindracea lipase was immobilized by adsorption on acid washed glass beads. It was observed that protein loading of the support depends on the size of the particle, with smaller particle containing higher amount of protein per unit weight. Initial reaction rate linearly varied up to enzyme concentration of 17.25 U/mL. Amount of free fatty acids produced was linearly proportional up to the enzyme loading of 1650 $\mu$g/g of bead. Achievement of chemical equilibrium took longer time in the case of less protein loading. Degree of hydrolysis was found to decrease in second and third consecutive batch operations on repeated use of immobilized lipase.
