Resistance through clothing styles: Iranian young women’s body representation in public spaces
MOHAMADI Jamal,SHIRAZI Faegheh 이화여자대학교 아시아여성학센터 2023 Asian Journal of Women's Studies(AJWS) Vol.29 No.2
This qualitative research extends critical theorizing on clothing practices by exploring how young women’s clothing styles serve the function of resistance to formal hegemonic culture in Iran. Thirty young women, recruited through a snowball-sampling strategy, reported their lived experiences of wearing fashionable clothing styles in urban public spaces. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews and analyzed by way of inductive thematic analysis. Seven key themes were found: young women use clothing styles (1) to communicate new meanings and values related to their femininity; (2) to resist dominant dress codes and veiled bodies; (3) to strengthen feminine agency; (4) to express elegance and openness; (5) to create alternative public spaces; (6) to resist hegemonic body shape; and (7) and to challenge the unbearable heaviness of being the same. It was concluded that the heterogeneity in appearance and in bodily practices among Iranian young women challenges the intended homogeneity of the dominant culture. In this sense, fashionable clothing styles are tools of resistance.

<P>Using the fixed point method, we prove the generalized Hyers-Ulam stability of the following additive-quadratic-quartic functional equation f(x+2y)+f(x-2y)=2f(x+y)+2f(-x-y)+2f(x-y)+2f(y-x)-4f(-x)-2f(x)+f(2y)+f(-2y)-4f(y)-4f(-y) in complete random normed spaces.</P>

<P>For rapid and effective detection of airborne microorganisms, it is preferable to remove dust particles during the air sampling process because they can reduce the detection accuracy of measurements. In this study, a methodology of real-time separation ofaerosolized Staphylococcus epidermidis (S. epidermidis) andpolystyrene latex (PSL) particles of similar size was investigated. These two species represent biological and non-biological particles, respectively. Due to their different relative permittivities, they grasp different numbers of air ions under corona discharge. After these charged particles enter a mobility analyzer with airflow, in which an electric field is applied perpendicular to the airflow, the S. epidermidis and PSL particles separate, due to the difference in their electric mobilities, and exit through two different outlets. Purities and recoveries for S. epidermidis and PSLat their respective outlets were determined with measurements of aerosol number concentrations and ATP bioluminescence intensities at the inlet and two outlets. The results were that purities for PSL and S. epidermidis were 70% and 80%, respectively. This methodology provides a rapid and simple way to increase the detection accuracy of bacterial agents in air.</P>

Poly(ether sulfone) (PES) and sulfonated poly(ether sulfone) (SPES) nanofiber mats were synthesized by electrospinning and modified via the in-situ polymerization of poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene) (PEDOT) on nonwoven (NW) electrospun PES and SPES mats. Chelating property of the obtained nanofiber mats were evaluated (for Pb(II), Cd(II) and Cr(VI) ions). The adsorption capacity was influenced by pH, concentration and contact time and followed a pseudo-second-order kinetics model (Freundlich model). The adsorption capacities of NW PEDOT/SPES mats were remarkably greater than NW PEDOT/ PES mats. The charge transport characteristics electrical impedance (EIS) results indicated that they were sensitive to the nature of adsorbed metal ions.

Dyes are one of the major toxic pollutants discharged in large quantities into the hydrosphere. Among various dye removal methods, adsorption has a distinct position. In this study, wheat straw was used as a low-cost and renewable material to prepare two economical adsorbents through the facile production method. An adsorbent was prepared by alkaline hydrolysis of wheat straw. Then, another adsorbent was synthesized by carboxymethylation of the first adsorbent. The prepared adsorbents were characterized by various techniques, including Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), field-emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and X-ray diffraction (XRD). A series of adsorption experiments were conducted in a batch adsorption system to study the effect of diverse parameters, such as solution pH, the initial dye concentration, and contact time, on the adsorption performance. Adsorption models and kinetic results indicated that the adsorption of methylene blue onto both adsorbents was more fitted to Langmuir isotherm and followed second-order kinetics. The maximum monolayer adsorption capacity of methylene blue on alkaline-modified wheat straw and carboxymethylated modified wheat straw reached 131.123 and 191.427 mg/g, respectively. Regarding their low cost and suitable adsorption potential, they can be cost-effective and promising adsorbents for wastewater treatment.
The effect of online summative and formative teacher assessment on teacher competences
Zohre Mohamadi Zenouzagh 서울대학교 교육연구소 2019 Asia Pacific Education Review Vol.20 No.3
This study investigated the effect of online summative and formative assessments on 30 Iranian English as foreign language teachers’ teaching competences. Everything being equal in terms of participant homogeneity and classroom video-based teacher induction for 21 sessions, significant differences in teaching competence improvements on three assessment interventions were sought using pretest/posttest time series design. The assessment interventions included online summative assessment (teachers receiving online feedback after their classroom observation), teachers online portfolio writing formative assessment (teachers receiving feedback after content analysis of their portfolios) and online collaborative discussion formative assessment (ECDF) (teachers’ receiving feedback in the discussion forum). Classroom observation, content analysis of e-portfolios, and log analysis of ECDF were used to code indicators of teacher competence improvements according to a scoring schema to fill teacher balanced score card (TBSC). The teacher competences were measured on TBSC in pre- and post-assessment interventions. The results of Paired sample t test and ANCOVA (analysis of covariance) indicated improved teacher competences across all-time series measures. Comparatively, teaching competences were more affected in ECDF assessment intervention where collaborative reflection and feedback were exchanged. Implications for education practitioners were provided and suggestions were offered for further research in the light of the limitations of the study.

Progress in the area of proton conducting polymer electrolyte membranes is closely with the enhancing of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells. Fluorinated polymers, e.g. poly(tetraflouroethylene-perflourovinyl ether) (PFA) film is largely driven by their thermal properties. In this article PFA film was developments to be suitable as proton conducting polymer electrolyte membranes. The grafting of acrylic acid (80%) onto the PFA film achieved by irradiation techniques and PFA-COOH was obtained. In addition, to synthesis of completely a new protonconducting sulfonated polymer ionomers this could be acheived by sequences of chemical modification steps. PFA-COOH has been anilination and sulfonated to a sufficient ionomers formation and complexion with the three rare-earth elements (Li, Cs, and Sr). After that the obtained PFA-CO-NH-ph-SO3M contains a sufficient equilibrium concentration of protons in a wet atmosphere to show useful proton conduction at ambient temperatures. The sulfonated polymers containing 63mol% sulfonic acid, and characterized by FTIR-ATR and SEM The results show that PFACO- NH-ph-SO3M wet film showed a high proton-conductivity in water (10-3 Scm-1) rather than methanol (10-6 Scm-1) in order Li+> Sr++>Cs+. This approach has interesting potential for smart thin film materials and offers also the possibility to be used in sensors and fuel cells provided that the electrolyte film thickness is in the micrometre range.
