<P>A novel nano-cauliflower-shaped lead(II) metal-organic coordination polymer, [Pb(mu-2-pinh)N-3 H2O](n) (1), was synthesized using an ultrasonic method. The nanostructure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray powder diffraction, IR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and thermal analysis. The compound was structurally characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The coordination compound takes the form of a zig-zag one-dimensional polymer in solid state. The coordination number of the lead(II) ions is six (PbN4O2) with three nitrogen atoms and one oxygen atom from two linker organic ligands, as well as one oxygen from coordinated water and one nitrogen atom from terminal coordinated azide anion. It has a stereo-chemically active lone electron pair, and the coordination sphere is hemidirected. The zig-zag 1D chains interact with neighbouring chains through weak interactions, creating a 3D supramolecular metal-organic framework. Lead oxide nanoparticles were obtained by thermolysis of the new nano coordination compound at 180 A degrees C with oleic acid as a surfactant. The morphology and size were further studied using SEM. Natural bond orbital analyses demonstrate the electronic properties of the lead centre and other atoms.</P>

A sonochemical method was used to synthesize a novel nano-structure of a zinc(II) organic-inorganic compound [Zn(dapt)2(ttfa)2] (1) [dapt = 2,4-diamino-6-phenyl-1,3,5-triazine and ttfa = 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetonate]. The new nanostructure was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, elemental analysis, and thermal analysis. The single-crystal X-ray structure shows that 1 is a discrete coordination compound. Strong intra- and intermolecular hydrogen bonds are observed in the structure with the latter forming chains of molecules running parallel to (110). The chains are further extended into a three-dimensional supramolecular structure by intermolecular C?F...π interactions between trifluoromethyl and triazine moieties. The coordination number of the zinc(II) ion is six (ZnN2O4), and the coordination sphere is tetragonally elongated octahedral. The structure of the title complex was optimized by DFT calculations.

A sonochemical method was used to synthesize nano-peanuts of a new lead(II) coordination 1D polymer, [Pb(qcnh)(NO3)2]n (1), where qcnh=2-quinolincarbaldehyde nicotinohydrazide. The compound was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), and single crystal X-ray analysis. The X-ray structure revealed that the Pb(II) atom is coordinated by one oxygen and three nitrogen atoms from two qcnh ligands and five oxygen atoms from three nitrate ligands in an 8+1 fashion with a PbN3O6 donor set. One of the Pd?N distances in the vicinity of the central atom is a bit longer (Pb1?N1=2.939(4) A), which shows the effect of the 6s2 lone electron pair localized within the valence shell of the lead(II) atom. PbO nanoparticles were obtained by thermolysis of 1 at 180oC with oleic acid as a surfactant. The average diameter of the nanoparticles was estimated by XRD to be 28nm. The morphology and size of the prepared PbO nanoparticles were further studied using SEM.

<P>Novel nanorods of a lead(II) 3D metal-organic coordination system {[Pb(mu(2)-NO3)(4)].(hmta)(2).H2O}(n) (1) (hmta = hexamethylenetetramine) were synthesized by a sonochemical method. The new nanostructure was characterized using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, elemental analysis, and thermogravimetric analysis. The single-crystal X-ray structure shows that 1 is a three dimensional (3D) coordination compound. This is further self-assembled into a 3-D supramolecular structure by weak directional intermolecular interactions. The coordination number of the Pb(II) ions is eight (PbO8). PbO nanoparticles were obtained by the thermolysis of 1 at 180 A degrees C using oleic acid as a surfactant. The average diameter of the nanoparticles was estimated by the Scherrer equation to be 30 nm. The morphology and size of the prepared PbO samples were also observed using SEM.</P>
