While roll-to-roll nanoimprint lithography (R2R NIL) can be capitalized in highly scalable fabrication of nanopatterns, preparation of large-area flexible molds remains the main challenge. In this work, we demonstrate that tiling of small-area nanopatterns in a slightly overlapped fashion can provide a practical solution to it; sequentially performing the UV NIL processes onto self-replicable UV-curable resin drops by using a small tile mold can create largearea-tiled molds. We systematically investigated that controlling the tile NIL force and several parameters is crucial to minimize the seams between tiles. We also present that the R2R NIL system can be improved by integrating a linear UV LED module for prompt UV curing before the as-imprinted nanopattern reflows, which is critical for high-resolution, high-quality nanopatterning. By using the tiled mold containing 45 nm-half-pitch nanogratings and operating the UV LED-integrated R2R NIL system, we exemplify that sub 50 nm-resolution nanopatterns can be faithfully created.

We describe a rare case of intradural-extramedullary primary spinal cysticercosis. A 42-year-old man visited our institute for lower back pain. He denied having consumed raw meet. Magnetic resonance (MR) images revealed an intradural pure cystic mass at the L3-L4 level. A radiologic diagnosis of spinal arachnoid cyst was established. Three years later, he complained of aggravated back pain, and follow-up MR examination showed a markedly expanded cyst, occupying the subarachnoid space from the T11 to the S1 level. L2 hemilaminectomy was performed, and a yellowish infected cyst bulged out through the dural opening. The cyst was removed en bloc. The histopathological findings of the cyst were consistent with parasitic infection. Serum enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) confirmed the presence of spinal cysticercosis. As there was no intracranial lesion, the final diagnosis was primary spinal cysticercosis, which is very rare. MR imaging is a sensitive diagnostic tool for detecting cystic lesions in the spine; however, it is difficult to distinguish cysticercosis from non-infectious cysts such as an arachnoid cyst without using gadolinium enhancement. Clinicians treating spinal cysts with an unusual clinical course should include cysticercosis as a differential diagnosis. We recommend contrast-enhanced MR imaging and serum ELISA in the diagnostic work-up of such cases.

For medical devices with blood flows, analyzing and reducing hemolysis is a very important topic. The shear stress has been identified as the most important factor for the hemolysis. In turbulent flows, high shear stress values are concentrated near the wall. In case of predicting hemolysis numerically, this leads to a very fine mesh and large computational resource to predict hemolysis accurately. In order to resolve this issue, turbulence wall models are used widely to relax the grid requirements. However, there exists no turbulence wall model for predicting the hemolysis yet. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to develop a turbulence wall model for hemolysis. In order to decrease the numerical error of hemolysis prediction, the blood damage index (BDI) is calculated using different approaches in two divided regions. In a near-wall region, an analytic approach using a modeled velocity profile is used to reduce a numerical error from the sharp velocity gradient in a coarse grid resolution. The Van Driest equation is adopted as the model for the mean velocity profile. In a region far from the wall, a regular numerical discretization is applied. The effectiveness of the proposed wall model is assessed for a few turbulent flows such as the flows inside a channel and cannula. The predicted BDI values present that the proposed wall model shows a significantly improved grid convergence and accuracy compared to a fully numerical approach.

Pancreatic surgery remains the only curative treatment for pancreatic neoplasms, and plays an important role in the management of medically intractable diseases. Since the original Whipple operation in the 20th century, surgical techniques have advanced, resulting in decreased postoperative complications and better clinical outcomes. Normal postoperative imaging findings vary greatly depending on the surgical technique used. Radiologists are required to be familiar with the normal postoperative imaging findings, in order to distinguish from postoperative complications or tumor recurrence. In this study, we briefly review a variety of surgical techniques for the pancreas, and present the normal postoperative computed tomography findings.
