Mcredit2: Enhanced High-Performance Xen Scheduler via Dynamic Weight Allocation

<P>Generally, operating only a single host on a single server results in hardware underutilization. Thus, hypervisors (e.g., Xen) have been developed to allow several hosts to operate on a single server. The Xen hypervisor provides processor schedulers (e.g., Credit and Credit2 schedulers) to assign processors to each host. The Credit2 scheduler provides work assurance to the domain relative to latency and it evenly assigns processors to each domain. In addition, the Credit2 scheduler can assign a weight value to each host. A greater host weight value allows processors to be assigned to a host for longer periods. However, the Credit2 scheduler shows poorer performance than the basic Credit scheduler, which utilizes idle processors. In this paper, we propose the Mcredit2 scheduler, which improves the Credit2 scheduler. The Credit2 scheduler takes no action when the load on a specific domain causes increased processor usage. The proposed Mcredit2 scheduler allows a domain to quickly process loads by temporarily assigning a greater weight value to a host with high processor usage. In addition, we introduce a processor monitoring tool that visualizes the processor usage.</P>

<P>A simple and effective optical interconnection which connects two distanced single metal-dielectric interface surface plasmon waveguides by a floating dielectric slab waveguide (slab bridge) is proposed. Transmission characteristics of the suggested structure are numerically studied using rigorous coupled wave analysis, and design rules based on the study are given. In the wave-guiding part, if the slab bridge can support more than the fundamental mode, then the transmission efficiency of the interconnection shows strong periodic dependency on the length of the bridge, due to the multi-mode interference (MMI) effect. Otherwise, only small fluctuation occurs due to the Fabry-Pérot effect. In addition, light beating happens when the slab bridge is relatively short. In the wave-coupling part, on the other hand, gap-assisted transmission occurs at each overlapping region as a consequence of mode hybridization. Periodic dependency on the length of the overlap region also appears due to the MMI effect. According to these results, we propose design principles for achieving both high transmission efficiency and stability with respect to the variation of the interconnection distance, and we show how to obtain the transmission efficiency of 68.3% for the 1mm-long interconnection.</P>

Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) is a safe alternative to open surgical repair for an abdominal aortic aneurysm. However, unfavorable aortic anatomy of the aneurysm has restricted the widespread use of EVAR. Anatomic limitation is most often related to characteristics of the proximal neck anatomy. In this report, we described a patient with a severely angulated proximal neck who underwent EVAR, but required repeat intervention because of thrombotic occlusion of stent graft limbs.
