<P>In this paper, we present a methodology for characterization and repair of signal degradation in through-silicon-vias (TSVs) in 3-D integrated circuits (ICs). The proposed structure can detect the signal degradation through TSVs due to resistive shorts in liner oxide and variations in resistance of TSV due to weak open and/or bonding resistance. For TSVs with moderate signal degradations, the proposed structure reconfigures itself as signal recovery circuit to maintain signal fidelity. This allows electrical repair of TSVs with moderate defects leading to better design yield and system functionality. This paper presents the design of the test and recovery structure and demonstrates their effectiveness through stand alone simulations as well as in a full-chip physical design of a 3-D IC.</P>
Anammox biomass carrying efficiency of polyethylene non-woven sheets as a carrier material

<P>To access the effects of the surface modification and fabric structure of polyethylene (PE) non-woven fabric sheets on retaining the attachment efficiency of anammox biomass, three different non-woven sheets were prepared and inserted in an anammox reactor. The hydrophobic surface modification with 10% KMnO4 and gelatin did not improve the attachment efficiency of the anammox biomass on the surface of the PE non-woven fibers. Densely packed PE-755 having the highest specific surface area to volume ratio (SA/V) (755) retained 221.4mg biomass per unit sheet, whereas PE-181 having the lowest SA/V (181) retained only 66.4mg biomass per unit. Accordingly, the volumetric anammox activity of non-woven sheet PE-755 was the highest among the three PE non-woven sheets because of the strong positive relationship between the specific anammox activity and biomass amount (R=0.835, P<.01). The specific surface area to volume ratio (cm(2)cm(-3)) as well as the bulk density should be considered as important parameters for the selection of non-woven biocarriers for anammox biomass.</P>

<P>Chemical absorption of CO<SUB>2</SUB> with aqueous NH<SUB>3</SUB> was numerically analyzed in an Eulerian manner for steady 1D spray towers in which gas velocity and liquid flow were uniform, and the results were formulated into a universal correlation. The capture efficiency η predicted by the proposed correlation is a sort of upper bound, and can be used as a base to evaluate the optimality of each design. Drop-size poly dispersity was considered; a spray of poly dispersed droplets was found to be equivalent in η to a spray of monodispersed droplets of an equivalent diameter, and a general formula for the equivalent size was attained in terms of mean size and geometric standard deviation. Total mass transfer coefficient was linearly proportional to the gas–liquid flow rate ratio, and the efficiency correlation agreed well with published results.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/iecred/2017/iecred.2017.56.issue-51/acs.iecr.7b03898/production/images/medium/ie-2017-03898j_0004.gif'></P>

BACKGROUND: Carotenoids which are a major source of vitamin A are contributed to have great potential role in anti-carcinogenic effects and eyesight. Carotenoids which can not synthesize in human body are required for food supply. The objectives of this study are to investigate compositions and contents of pumpkin (Cucurbita spp.) germplasms based on their pulp color. METHODS AND RESULTS: Carotenoids were extracted with 0.2% ascorbic acid in ethanol and saponified with 80% potassium hydroxide. Insoluble compounds were extracted into hexane. A total of nine carotenoids (three xanthophylls and six carotenes) were identified from pumpkin germplasms using HPLC equipped with photodiode array detector (450 nm). Especially, lutein and β-carotenes were major compound in germplasms. Among isomers of β-carotene, all-trans-β-carotene (16-27% of total carotenoids) was predominant compositions. Themean of total carotenoid contents was showed as brown (286.1 mg/100 g dw) > dark green (217.0) > orange (153.4) > primrose (85.8) > dark yellow (80.3). On the basis of carotenoid information, PLS-DA score plots showed different patterns by cluster in pumpkin germplasms. It was considered that these differences of phenotype were relative closely to genotype. CONCLUSION: This study indicated that dark color of pumpkin pulp was presented in high-level of biological pigments. It may contribute to develop potentially beneficial functional food ingredients.

Density functional theory (DFT) is an essential tool for computing the electronic structure of atoms, molecules, and solid-state materials. In this paper, we briefly review the current status of DFT including some basic explanation of many-body Hamiltonian, Born-Oppenheimer approximation, Hohenberg-Kohn theorem, and Kohn-Sham equation. The last two concepts, Hohenberg-Kohn theorem and Kohn-Sham equation, are the most important ones of DFT, hence we summarize the two ones intensively in this review.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The conventional tools to measure spasticity exhibited insufficient test-retest or inter-rater reliability. Therefore, the spasticity measurement using an isokinetic device has been proposed to improve these reliabilities of the angle of catch (AoC) measurements; however, this proposal has not been investigated in a standardized manner.</P> <P>In this study, the comparison of the AoC measurement was performed using two modes (isokinetic and manual motion) to investigate whether the standardized isokinetic motion could increase the reliabilities. Motion consistency was calculated using a newly developed index. To analyze the effect of the motion standardization, AoC were estimated using EMG data for both modes, and to compare the measurement reliability, AoC for isokinetic mode was estimated using both EMG and torque data.</P> <P>Although the test-retest reliability for manual motion was excellent, the use of isokinetic motion improved it to the level of extremely excellent. Intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) for the inter-rater reliability of manual motion was 0.788, which was near the lower limit of the excellent. Isokinetic motion improved it to the ICC of 0.890 and 0.931 based on the EMG and torque, respectively.</P> <P>These improvements in reliabilities reduced the measurement errors, sample size, and need for the same rater in clinical trials.</P>
