Adhesives are becoming increasingly accepted for advanced engineering/boding tasks. Therefore the understanding of the basic principles and the benefits of elastic bonding and structural bonding respectively is of utmost importance. Structural bonding means adhesive performance in load-bearing environments. Furthermore. the time to achieve handling strength has an impact on the economics of an assembly line. The paper gives briefly a summary about the fundamentals of elastic bonding and discusses different adhesive systems in the context of handling strength. Hereby the focus lies on the Warm Melt Technology, and its potential is compared to standard adhesives (l-part, 2-part and Booster Technology, a special 2-C system). Preoperative chemo- and radiotherapeutic strategies followed by surgery are currently a standard approach for treating locally advanced gastric and esophagogastric junction cancer in Western countries. However, in a large number of cases, the tumor is extremely resistant to these treatments and the patients are exposed to unnecessary toxicity and delayed surgical therapy. The current clinical trials evaluating the combination of preoperative systemic therapies with modern targeted and immunotherapeutic agents represent a unique opportunity for identifying predictive biomarkers of response to select patients that would benefit the most from these treatments. However, it is of utmost importance that these potential biomarkers are corroborated by extensive preclinical and translational research. The aim of this review article is to present the most promising biomarkers of response to classic chemotherapeutic, anti-HER2, antiangiogenic, and immunotherapeutic agents that can be potentially useful for personalized preoperative systemic therapies in gastric cancer patients.

Women and Ischemic Heart Disease: Recognition, Diagnosis and Management

Cardiovascular disease is one of the most frequent causes of death in both males and females throughout the world. However, women exhibit a greater symptom burden, more functional disability, and a higher prevalence of nonobstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) compared to men when evaluated for signs and symptoms of myocardial ischemia. This paradoxical sex difference appears to be linked to a sex-specific pathophysiology of myocardial ischemia including coronary microvascular dysfunction, a component of the ‘Yentl Syndrome’. Accordingly, the term ischemic heart disease (IHD) is more appropriate for a discussion specific to women rather than CAD or coronary heart disease. Following the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute Heart Truth/American Heart Association, Women’s Ischemia Syndrome Evaluation and guideline campaigns, the cardiovascular mortality in women has been decreased, although significant gender gaps in clinical outcomes still exist. Women less likely undergo testing, yet guidelines indicate that symptomatic women at intermediate to high IHD risk should have further test (e.g. exercise treadmill test or stress imaging) for myocardial ischemia and prognosis. Further, women have suboptimal use of evidence-based guideline therapies compared with men with and without obstructive CAD. Anti-anginal and anti-atherosclerotic strategies are effective for symptom and ischemia management in women with evidence of ischemia and nonobstructive CAD, although more female-specific study is needed. IHD guidelines are not “cardiac catheterization” based but related to evidence of “myocardial ischemia and angina”. A simplified approach to IHD management with ABCs (aspirin, angiotensinconverting enzyme inhibitors/angiotensin-renin blockers, beta blockers, cholesterol management and statin) should be used and can help to increases adherence to guidelines.

To increase the switching frequency in DC/DC converters, soft switching is necessary to limit switching losses. In case of the Dual Active Bridge (DAB), Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) is used to reduce switching losses. Since the ZVS behavior of the DAB depends on multiple parameters, an accurate model is necessary to ensure operation with minimal losses by applying ZVS. This paper presents an accurate capacitance based time domain (CTD) model for the resonant commutation which enables the calculation of the minimal necessary current, the optimal deadtime as well as the voltage error caused by the nonideal commutation. The parasitics and therefore nonideal behavior of the MOSFETs are considered to further increase accuracy. The model can be used for all operating points commonly applied in single (SPS) and triple phase shift (TPS) modulation. Measurement results obtained with a 500 kW DAB prototype proves the high accuracy of the model.

Effective brand management is vital for building the necessary bond between an organization and its consumers. LG Electronics serves as a notable example of a global company that effectively communicates its brand in diverse markets. This study focuses on the remarkable case of LG Electronics’ LCD Monitors and plasma TV screens to highlight critical elements of effective brand management across the different cultural contexts of the United Kingdom and the Russian Federation. The findings reveal that LG Electronics standardizes part of its logo and slogan in both cultures. However, the company uses different communication strategies in the UK and Russia. Specifically, LG uses a differentiated strategy with regard to both the visual and the written components of its high-involvement print advertisements. However, it uses a mixed strategy of standardized visual and differentiated written components in its low-involvement TV advertisements. These differences in LG Electronics’ print and TV advertisement strategies in two diverse cultures augment contemporary brand management research.
