Consuming pomegranate juice (PJ) is beneficial for hypertensive regulation because of the phenolic compounds in PJ and their inhibitory activity on angiotensin-I-converting enzyme (ACE). To better utilize bioactive function of food, microorganism fermentation has been adopted to alter phenolic metabolism. This study confirms that even under in vitro digestion, fermented PJ (FPJ) maintains higher ACE inhibitory activity than that of PJ. The main phenolic compounds in PJ were compared either under fermentation or in vitro digestion. This study finds that fermentation promotes antioxidant capacity of PJ. The chemical properties of FPJ are evaluated and the corresponding relationship with bioactivities is analyzed. A sensory evaluation comparison is conducted between FPJ and PJ, furnishing interesting information for consumers. This study highlights the relationship between ACE inhibitory activity of PJ and phenolic composition under fermentation and in vitro digestion, providing novel insights for diet regulation of phenolic-rich FPJ in ACE inhibition therapy.
An Energy Aware Cellular Learning Automata Based Routing Algorithm for Opportunistic Networks

Message transmission in opportunistic networks is accomplished via the encounters of mobile nodes while moving around. The distributing of nodes greatly impacts the performance of message delivery ratio due to their sparse encounter opportunities. Nodes with exhaust energy can’t participate in message transfer process. So it is very meaningful to make nodes energetic and balance the energy consumption between nodes. In this paper, a novel dynamic irregular cellular multiple learning automata (DICMLA) model and the corresponding routing algorithm are proposed to optimize the energy consumption of nodes. The proposed routing algorithm utilizes the characteristics of cellular learning automata to reduce the energy consumption of nodes and improve the delivery ratio of message transmission. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can obviously balance energy consumption of nodes and thus prolong the lifetime of the network.

In order to improve the energy efficiency of n-Epidemic routing protocol in opportunistic networks, in which a stable end-to-end forwarding path usually does not exist, a novel adjustment strategy for parameter n is proposed using learning atuomata principle. First, nodes dynamically update the average energy level of current environment while moving around. Second, nodes with lower energy level relative to their neighbors take larger n avoiding energy consumption during message replications and vice versa. Third, nodes will only replicate messages to their neighbors when the number of neighbors reaches or exceeds the threshold n. Thus the number of message transmissions is reduced and energy is conserved accordingly. The simulation results show that, n-Epidemic routing protocol with the proposed adjustment method can efficiently reduce and balance energy consumption. Furthermore, the key metric of delivery ratio is improved compared with the original n-Epidemic routing protocol. Obviously the proposed scheme prolongs the network life time because of the equilibrium of energy consumption among nodes.
Investigation on the effect of slot pulse jet on centrifugal pump performance

To improve centrifugal pump cavitation performance, the slot pulse jet pump is proposed. The slot is designed directly on the impeller shroud near the suction side of the blade leading edge. The slots are alternately blocked by the cambered prominence, which is designed at the impeller front side chamber along the circumferential direction. The leakage flow from the front side chamber flows into the slot alternately, and the pulse jet is formed near the blade inlet. Because of the strong shear, the pulse jet is more efficient than steady jet in terms of energy transmission. Based on the numerical simulation, the hydraulic performances of the slot pulse jet pumps with two different pulse frequencies are compared with the slot steady jet pump. The calculation result shows that with the increase of flow rate, the head and efficiency of the three kinds of pumps are basically the same. The cavitation performance of slot pulse jet pump is better than that of slot steady jet pump, especially for slot pulse jet pump Ⅱ. The distribution of pressure difference acted on the slot appears to be jagged, and the pulse frequency is consistent with shaft frequency or its harmonic frequency. The amplitude of the pressure fluctuation on slot jet pump Ⅱ is much higher than that of the slot pulse jet pump Ⅰ. The vapor volume distribution in the middle span of the impeller for slot pulse jet pump is less than that of slot steady jet pump. So, the pulse jet is an effective way to further improve the cavitation performance of slot steady jet pump, and NPSHr is significantly decreased, especially at design condition.
