<P>Ginsenoside Re (Re), a major ginsenoside of ginseng, enhanced the cornified cell envelope (CE) formation in HaCaT keratinocytes under normal conditions. In HaCaT keratinocytes, Re was also able to upregulate filaggrin protein and caspase-14 activity in a concentration-dependent manner. These findings reasonably imply that Re possesses a desirable property of improving skin barrier function.</P>

Objective: Despite the accumulating evidence for the association of Tummer budding (TB) histology with poor prognosis in several solid cancers, the biological characteristics of TB are little known about in the context related to the tumor immune microenvironment (TIME) in uterine cervical cancer (CC). Therefore, this study aimed to identify the transcriptomic immune profiles related to TB status and further provide robust medical evidence for clinical application. Methods: Total RNA was extracted and sequenced from 21 CC tissue specimens. After intersecting the list of DEGs and public immune genes, we selected immune-related DEGs (IR-DEGs). Then, hub genes were obtained using Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator regression. Finally, the correlation between the hub genes and immune cell types was analyzed and four candidate genes were identified. Results: Fifteen and six patients belonged to the high- ( ≥ 5 buds/high-power fieldand) and low-TB groups, respectively. The volcano plot indicates 1464 DEGs (929 upregulated and 535 downregulated genes) between the high- and low-TB groups. Subsequently, 106 IR-DEGs that overlapped between the DEGs and immune-related gene database. Spearmans method was used to identify the correlation between hub genes and immune cell types generated by CIBERSORT and TIMER. The Venn diagram identified four candidates genes (overlapping genes), including one upregulated (FCGR3B) and three (ROBO2, OPRL1, and NR4A2) genes. These gene expression levels were highly accurate in predicting TB status (area under the curve >80%). Moreover, FCGR3B is a hub gene of several innate immune pathways; its expression significantly differed in the overall survival analysis (p = 0.0016). Conclusion: Four immune-related genes (one upregulated (FCGR3B) and three downregulated (ROBO2, OPRL1, and NR4A2) genes) that can impact TB formation and development were detected through a multiple-step analysis. These genes may be potential biomarkers for replacing TB status to stratify CC patients.
A 70 MHz Temperature-Compensated On-Chip CMOS Relaxation Oscillator for Mobile Display Driver ICs

A 70 MHz temperature-compensated onchip CMOS relaxation oscillator for mobile display driver ICs is proposed to reduce frequency variations. The proposed oscillator compensates for frequency variation with respect to temperature by adjusting the bias currents to control the change in delay of comparators with temperature. A bandgap reference (BGR) is used to stabilize the bias currents with respect to temperature and supply voltages. Additional temperature compensation for the generated frequency is achieved by optimizing the resistance in the BGR after measuring the output frequency. In addition, a trimming circuit is implemented to reduce frequency variation with respect to process. The proposed relaxation oscillator is fabricated using 45 nm CMOS technology and occupies an active area of 0.15 mm<SUP>2</SUP>. The measured frequency variations with respect to temperature and supply voltages are as follows: (i) ±0.23% for changes in temperature from -30 to 75°C, (ii) ±0.14% for changes in VDD1 from 2.2 to 2.8 V, and (iii) ±1.88% for changes in VDD2 from 1.05 to 1.15 V.

최근 4대강 보 및 하구둑 개방을 통한 수질 및 생태계 개선에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있으며, 이러한 정책적 판단에 앞서 주요 하구 수리현상 및 관련 환경문제의 예측을 위한 수치모형실험의 중요성도 높아지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 하구수리의 주요 물리현상인 염수쐐기 형성에 대하여 Delft-3D모형에 의한 수치모형실험을 수행하고 적용성 및 주요 파라미터의 민감도를 검토하였다. z-layer nonhydrostatic 조건 적용시 염수쐐기 침투길이 및 경계면 종단 형상이 Schijf and Shonfeld(1953) 의 이론해와 유사한 결과가 나타났으나 δ-layer hydrostatic 실험에서는 침투길이가 길어지고 선단부가 계단 형상으로 나타나 이론 예측과 차이를 보였다.
한국 경제의 KLEM DB구축과 중첩 CES 생산함수 추정

본고는 에너지부문을 세분화 한 한국경제의 KELM DB를 구축하고, 다양한 중첩(nesting) 구조 하에서의 CES 생산함수를 추정하여 투입요소 간 대체탄력성을 구한다. KLEM DB는 투입요소가 자본, 노동, 에너지, 중간투입재로 구성되는 산업별 수량지수 및 가격지수로서, 이 중 에너지투입은 전력, 가스, 석유, 석탄으로 세분화하여 에너지 투입의 변화를 나타낼 수 있도록 하였다. 구축된 KLEM DB를 바탕으로 CES 생산함수의 중첩구조별로 투입요소 간대체탄력성을 추정하였고, 대체탄력성 추정치를 사용하는 CGE 모형의 관례대로 중간투입재와 여타 투입요소 간의 Leontief 결합을 가정하는 경우와 이 가정을 사용하지 않는 경우 모두에 있어 대체탄력성을 추정하였다. 본고가 제시하는 탄력성 추정치는 산업별 생산기술 구조와 생산성 분석뿐 아니라 기후정책의 효과분석, 일반균형모형의 구축 등 다양한 연구에 활용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다. This study constructs an energy-extended KLEM DB of 35 Korean industries, and estimates the elasticities of substitution under various nesting structures of production technologies. Unlike most existing studies that employed only three inputs, K, L, and E, we applied a dual approach where non-energy intermediate input M is also incorporated as a production input. Our dual approach which extended that of van der Werf (2008)’s 3-input model successfully identified and estimated the multi-nested production functions. We provide the estimates of the elasticities of substitution among 4 different energy sources as well. Our estimation results would be used for energy-environment model building for Korea.

경상남도 거제시의 고현항 배후지는 해일, 하천범람 등 복합원인에 의한 침수가 발생하는 대표적인 연안 도시로서 홍수취약성 평가가 필요하며, 특히 전면매립이나 연안개발 등의 사업 검토시 이러한 침수요 인들을 동시에 고려한 모의가 선행되어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 고현항 항만재개발사업과 관련하여 기존시가지와 신규매립지 사이의 수로 설치 유무에 따른 평면배치안별 해일 침수 영향을 비교·검토하였으며, 모의결과 연접매립안이 수로설치안에 비해 침수 저감에 유리한 것으로 분석되었다.

OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study was to identify the differences in medication effect according to pain characteristics in spinal cord-injured patients. METHODS: This study is a prospective, randomized, crossover study. Fifty-five patients and 66 locations of neuropathic pain were included. Pain was classified into four spontaneous characteristics and three evoked pain characteristics. Oxcarbazepine (Na channel blocker) and pregabalin (calcium channel α2-&dgr; ligand medication) were tried. Patients were divided into two groups: evoked pain present and evoked pain absent. Overall average visual analog scale was obtained. RESULTS: Oxcarbazepine was significantly more effective for patients without evoked pain than in those with it for electrical, burning, and pricking pain. The effect of pregabalin was not different regarding the presence or absence of evoked pain for all pain categories, except burning pain. In patients with evoked pain, pregabalin was shown to be significantly more effective for electrical pain, allodynia, and heat hyperalgesia than oxcarbazepine. In the evoked pain absent group, oxcarbazepine showed greater improvement than pregabalin but was not significant. CONCLUSIONS: In summary, the phenotype of neuropathic pain was associated with the efficacy of different pharmacologic treatments. Symptom-based treatment, therefore, can lead to more efficient analgesia.
