<P>We study an exotic state which is localized only at an intersection of edges of a topological material. This 'edge-of-edge' state is shown to exist generically. We construct explicitly generic edge-of-edge states in five-dimensional Weyl semimetals and their dimensional reductions, such as four-dimensional topological insulators of class A and three-dimensional chiral topological insulators of class AIII. The existence of the edge-of-edge state is due to a topological charge of the edge states. The notion of the Berry connection is generalized to include the space of all possible boundary conditions, where Chern-Simons forms are shown to be nontrivial.</P>
Liver graft from donation after circulatory death donor: Real practice to improve graft viability

Donation after circulatory death (DCD) is an increasing source of liver grafts for transplantation, yet outcomes have been inferior compared to donation after brain death liver transplantation. These worse outcomes are mainly due to the severe graft injury resulting from mandatory warm ischemia during DCD organ recovery. New evidence, however, indicates that improved donor selection and surgical techniques can decrease the risk of graft failure and ischemic cholangiopathy (IC). Under current best practices, DCD organs are retrieved with the super-rapid technique, optimizing timing and protecting the liver graft from detrimental warm ischemia. Graft viability is influenced by both the quantity and quality of warm ischemia, which is unique to each donor and causes various degrees of pathophysiologic consequences. Evidence also shows that the choice of preservation solution and premortem heparin administration influences graft viability. Additionally, although the precise mechanism of IC remains unknown, stasis of blood during donor warm ischemia may cause the formation of microthrombi in the peribiliary vascular plexus and ischemia of the bile duct. Importantly, thrombolytic protocols show a possible preventive modality for IC. Finally, while ex vivo machine perfusion technology has gained an interest in DCD liver transplantation, further studies are necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of this evolving field to improve graft quality and transplant outcomes.
Guide Following Control Using Laser Range Sensor for a Smart Wheelchair

This paper presents a guide following control(adriving support control) for a smart electric wheelchair, so that the wheelchair can follow a preceding person(guide). A walking guide is obtained from lasers can images by a nin-vehicle laser range sensor based on Kalman filter and data association, and the guide foot print is estimated. Based on position data of the foot print, acubicspline generate satarget path for the wheelchair. The wheelchair is controlled so that it can move along the guide foot print at a constant gap between the wheelchair and the guide. The experimental result validated the feasibility of the control method.

<P>Cathodic reaction of protonic ceramic fuel cells (PCFCs) using SrZrO<SUB>3</SUB> based proton conducting electrolyte with perovskite oxide cathode is studied. A dense La<SUB>0.6</SUB>Sr<SUB>0.4</SUB>CoO<SUB>3</SUB> (LSC) film is fabricated on 10mol% Y-doped SrZrO<SUB>3</SUB> (SZY) electrolyte using pulsed laser deposition (PLD) method as a cathode. Cathodic performance of the dense LSC electrode is evaluated using AC impedance measurement and Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy (SIMS) analysis. Impedance spectra suggest that LSC dense film play a role as proton blocking electrode. SIMS analysis reveals that proton concentration in LSC dense film is higher than bulk of LSC, and there is no concentration gradient in LSC and SZY. Therefore, it is suggested that proton surface exchange rate of LSC is very low.</P>
The Japan Health Physics Society Guideline on Dose Monitoring for the Lens of the Eye

Background: In Japan, new regulations that revise the dose limit for the lens of the eye (hereafter the lens), operational quantities, and measurement positions for the lens dose were enforced in April 2021. Based on the international safety standards, national guidelines, the results of the Radiation Safety Research Promotion Fund of the Nuclear Regulation Authority, and other studies, the Working Group of Radiation Protection Standardization Committee, the Japan Health Physics Society (JHPS) developed a guideline for radiation dose monitoring for the lens.Materials and Methods: The Working Group of the JHPS discussed the criteria of non-uniform exposure and the management criteria set not to exceed the dose limit for the lens.Results and Discussion: In July 2020, the JHPS guideline was published. The guideline consists of three parts: main text, explanations, and 26 examples. In the questions, the corresponding answers were prepared, and specific examples were provided to enable similar cases to be addressed.Conclusion: With the development of the guideline on radiation dose monitoring of the lens, radiation managers and workers will be able to smoothly comply with revised regulations and optimize radiation protection.
