      • A Study on the Operation of Education Using Library Using Flip Learning Techniques: Focusing on ubiquitous E-learning that reflects gaming elements

        KiTae KIM(KiTae KIM),HoSung WOO(HoSung WOO) 한국4차산업학회 2022 4차산업연구 Vol.2 No.2

Purpose - The purpose is to present an efficient library-use education model in the form of flip learning, reflecting traditional teaching methods and gamification elements even in such non-face-to-face and face-to-face situations after COVID-19. Research design, data, and methodology - Research on library use education, research on ubiquitous environment and gamification instructional design, flip the learning, and gamification elements are classified, compared, and analyzed to present educational models for library education, COVID-19 Pandemic situation, and subsequent library use education. Result - We propose an e-learning content development strategy for flipped learning-based library education. First, benchmark and use the existing educational contents. Second, a user-friendly interface is configured so that learners can flexibly organize their learning contents. Third, it allows learners to experience it directly or indirectly in a virtual space. Conclusion - If the e-learning environment can be standardized to the level of schools or educational institutions, a good educational model that can be used not only in library user education but also in other fields will be possible.

The Study of the Effect of Transportation on Issuerelevant Thoughts in Narrative Persuasion

        Kitae Kim(Kitae Kim),Jisoo Park(Jisoo Park) 글로벌지식융합학회 2023 지식융합연구 Vol.6 No.1

기존의 설득 내러티브(persuasive narratives) 연구에서는 독자의 내러티브의 몰입(transportation)이 내러티브에서 논하는 이슈에 관한 생각과 비판적 사고를 방해한다는 ‘몰입과 이슈 관련 사고의 양립불가능 원칙(the principle of incompatibility of transportation and issue-relevant thought)’을 제시하였다. The previous research of persuasive narrative messages has suggested that transportation into narratives prohibits issue-relevant thinking and critical thoughts on the issue, which is known as “the principle of incompatible of transportation and issue-relevant thought”. However, the previous research did not use narrative appeals with explicit persuasive intent and strong argument. Furthermore, the issues in the narratives were often not personally relevant. Hence, employing thought-listing techniques, this study tested the principle with persuasive narrative messages that had more explicit persuasive intention and more relevant issue to the participants. The findings of this study contradicts the principle: the extent to which the participants were transported into the story was not negatively associated with the number of issue-relevant thoughts, regardless of the valence of the thoughts. Consequently, this study suggests whether people are willing to think about the issue of persuasive narrative messages may be more related to the how explicitly the persuasive intent in narratives is presented in the narratives rather than transportation into the narratives.

Various Pathogenic Bacteria on German Cockroaches(Blattellidae, Blattaria) Collected from General Hospitals

        Kim, Kitae,Jeon, Jin-Hwa,Lee, Dong-Kyu 한국곤충학회 1995 Entomological Research Vol.25 No.1

Electrochemical Production of Hydrogen Coupled with the Oxidation of Arsenite

        Kim, Jungwon,Kwon, Daejung,Kim, Kitae,Hoffmann, Michael R. American Chemical Society 2014 Environmental science & technology Vol.48 No.3

<P>The production of hydrogen accompanied by the simultaneous oxidation of arsenite (As(III)) was achieved using an electrochemical system that employed a BiO<I>x</I>–TiO2 semiconductor anode and a stainless steel (SS) cathode in the presence of sodium chloride (NaCl) electrolyte. The production of H2 was enhanced by the addition of As(III) during the course of water electrolysis. The synergistic effect of As(III) on H2 production can be explained in terms of (1) the scavenging of reactive chlorine species (RCS), which inhibit the production of H2 by competing with water molecules (or protons) for the electrons on the cathode, by As(III) and (2) the generation of protons, which are more favorably reduced on the cathode than water molecules, through the oxidation of As(III). The addition of 1.0 mM As(III) to the electrolyte at a constant cell voltage (<I>E</I>cell) of 3.0 V enhanced the production of H2 by 12% even though the cell current (<I>I</I>cell) was reduced by 5%. The net effect results in an increase in the energy efficiency (EE) for H2 production (ΔEE) by 17.5%. Furthermore, the value ΔEE, which depended on As(III) concentration, also depended on the applied <I>E</I>cell. For example, the ΔEE increased with increasing As(III) concentration in the micromolar range but decreased as a function of <I>E</I>cell. This is attributed to the fact that the reactions between RCS and As(III) are influenced by both RCS concentration depending on <I>E</I>cell and As(III) concentration in the solution. On the other hand, the ΔEE decreased with increasing As(III) concentration in the millimolar range due to the adsorption of As(V) generated from the oxidation of As(III) on the semiconductor anode. In comparison to the electrochemical oxidation of certain organic compounds (e.g., phenol, 4-chlorophenol, 2-chlorophenol, salicylic acid, catechol, maleic acid, oxalate, and urea), the ΔEE obtained during As(III) oxidation (17.5%) was higher than that observed during the oxidation of the above organic compounds (ΔEE = 3.0–15.3%) with the exception of phenol at 22.1%. The synergistic effect of As(III) on H2 production shows that an energetic byproduct can be produced during the remediation of a significant inorganic pollutant. </P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/esthag/2014/esthag.2014.48.issue-3/es4046814/production/images/medium/es-2013-046814_0005.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/es4046814'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

      • Effect of dissolved organic carbon from sludge, Rice straw and spent coffee ground biochar on the mobility of arsenic in soil

        Kim, Hye-Bin,Kim, Seon-Hee,Jeon, Eun-Ki,Kim, Do-Hyung,Tsang, Daniel C.W.,Alessi, Daniel S.,Kwon, Eilhann E.,Baek, Kitae Elsevier 2018 The Science of the total environment Vol.636 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>To date, studies on the mobility of arsenic (As) in soil amended with biochar have primarily relied on broad empirical observations, resulting in a gap between the behavior of As in amended soil and the chemical mechanisms controlling that behavior. This study focuses on the influence of abiotic factors in As mobility in As-contaminated soils amended with biochar. In order to understand the leaching of DOC and phosphate across a range of biomass feedstock and pyrolysis temperature, rice straw and granular sludge from an anaerobic digester were pyrolyzed at 300, 550, and 700 °C, and subjected to leaching studies by mixing air dried soil with 10 wt% of biochar at a soil: water ratio of 1:1(w/v). The concentration of DOC in the presence of granular sludge biochar and rice straw biochar increased from 190 mg L−1 to 2605 mg L−1 and 1192 mg L−1, respectively, which considerable accelerated the mobilization of Fe and As. More specifically, DOC drove the reduction of Fe(III) to Fe(II). Our results suggest enhanced release of As via the reductive dissolution of iron oxides, including by the chelating-enhanced dissolution of Fe oxides, and competitive desorption by DOC and phosphate from biochar. The influence of DOC and phosphate was further evaluated using realistic application amounts (1, 3, and 5 wt%) of biochars derived from pyrolysis of granular sludge, rice straw and spent coffee ground at 300 and 550 °C. The results from these experiments further confirm that DOC is a key factor for influencing the mobility of As in the amendment of biochar to As-contaminated soil, which indicates that biochar having low levels of leachable carbon should be amended to As-contaminated soils, and with caution.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Dissolved organic carbon from biochar increased mobility of As in soil. </LI> <LI> Biochar enhanced reductive dissolution of Fe oxides in soil. </LI> <LI> Dissolved organic carbons extract Fe via chelating enhanced dissolution. </LI> <LI> Phosphate enhanced As mobility via competitive desorption </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
