Application of Unbalanced Collisions of Fluid Streams in Microchannel for Mixing

Experimental and numerical study has been carried on the proposed on design of the micromixer based on the unbalanced split and collision of the fluids streams. The main microchannel is split into two sub-channels and then recombines after a certain distance. The shape of the split sub-channels is rhombic with major subchannel crossing the minor sub-channel. Numerical analysis has been carried out by solving Navier-Stokes equation. The experimental study has been carried on the device fabricated using standard soft lithography technique. Mixing analysis has been performed using inverted fluorescence microscope. The micromixer with balanced collisions (equal width of sub-channels) shows poor mixing quality. The collision of the fluids streams are effective in enhancing mixing as the level of unbalance is increased by adjusting the widths of the sub-channels.

In this paper, we introduce the elimination ideal $I_D(G)$ associated to a simple finite graph G. We obtain the upper bound of Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of elimination ideal for various classes of graphs.

Salicylic acid (SA) in different concentration were used to assess its individual effect as well as combined impact with 3% calcium chloride (CaCl2) on Swat No. 8 variety of peach stored at refrigerated temperature (6 ± 2 °C) for 21 days. Interestingly, the results revealed that applying 2 mmol L−1 SA with 3% CaCl2 maintained maximum nutritional value and least decay percent (44.1%) as compared to other treatments during storage. Moreover, this combination also exhibited significant weight loss and chilling injury at 6 ± 2 °C whereas increased levels of total phenolic, flavonoids, tannin, alkaloid, ascorbic acid, and antioxidant activity were observed as compared to other treatments. The combination treatment (2 mmol L−1 SA with 3% CaCl2) maintained other sensory attributes of peach fruit during refrigerated storage, therefore, its commercial use was recommended to store peach fruit for up to three weeks without any significant nutritional and physical loss.
Presence of Acetylcholine-like Substance(s) in Sesamum indicum

Alcoholic extract of seeds of Sesamum indicum (SI, 1-30mg/kg) caused hypotensive action in anesthetized rats. Heart rate was also decreased at slightly higher doses (10-30 mg/kg). Pretreatment with atropine (2 mg/kg) abolished these cardiovascular responses. In isolated spontaneously beating atria from guinea-pigs. SI caused decrease in force and rate of atrial contractions. In isolated guinea-pig ileum and rat uterus, SI (100-1000 ug/ml) produced contractile responses. All these actions of SI were abolished in the presence of atropine ($1\mu$M). These results indicate that alcoholic extract of seeds of Seamum indicum contains acetylcholine-like constituent(s) which explains some of the folkloric uses of plant.
시료 전처리와 단백질 농축을 위한 마이크로/나노 유체시스템 개발

In this study, an integrated micro-nanofluidic system for protein analysis was presented. The device is comprised of a micromixer and a preconcentrator with a separation column. The Integrated micromixer based on unbalanced split and cross collision of fluid streams is passive and planar, which is easy to fabricate and integrate to the microfluidic system. The preconcentrator based on electrokinetic trapping of protein has nanochannels formed by the electrical breakdown of PDMS membrane using high electric shock, without any nano-lithographic process. Micromixer and preconcentrator were used for sample preparation and concentration of protein, consecutively. In sample preparation, proteins were tagged with conjugate dye or other bio marker proteins were electrokinetically trapped at anodic side of the junction of micro/nanochannels. This simple integrated microdevice could be useful for various bioanalysis and biosensor application.
세포외 기질 물질에 따른 심근세포(HL-1)의 성장 연구

HL-1 세포(심근세포주)는 AT-1 쥐의 심방암세포에서 추출한 심근세포로써, 특별한 약물의 주입 없이도 맥동현상을 보이며, 여러 번의 계대 배양 후에도 그 수축성을 잃지 않는 특성이 있어 바이오센서에 적용하기 용이하다. 본 연구에서는 세포 외 기질물질(ECM: extra cellular matrix)의 영향에 따른 HL-1 의 성장과 형질변화를 분석하였다. HL-1 세포를 ECM 이 처리되지 않은 표면과 서로 다른 3 가지 ECM 인 gelatin 수용액, fibronectin 수용액 및 gelatin 과 fibronectin 의 혼합 수용액으로 처리된 표면에 배양하여 세포와 ECM의 상호작용 및 세포의 성장을 관찰하였다. 세포 배양 직후부터 배양후 4 일까지의 세포의 변화를 형광 면역 염색법 (immunostaining)을 이용하여 분석하였다. 세포 증식은 Hoechst 와 EthD-1 을 통해 관찰하였고, DAPI 염색으로 세포핵을 phalloidin 염색을 통해 F-actin 을 관찰하였다. fibronectin 수용액을 ECM으로 사용하였을 때, 세포 성장 및 형질유지에가장 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 HL-1 세포와 ECM 의 상호 작용 및 세포의 성장을 이해하는 데 기초자료로 활용될 수 있으리라 기대된다. We present here the effect of extracellular matrix (ECM) on the proliferation and physiology of HL-1 cardiac cells. HL-1 cell is from AT-1 mouse atrial cardiomyocyte tumor lineage. HL-1 cell can be serially passaged, yet they maintain the ability to contract which is a promising character of HL-1 cell for the cell based biosensors. HL-1 cells grow up on the ECM which can affect on the attachment and growth of HL-1. In this paper, we discuss HL-1 cell-ECM interactions with three different ECMs and non-treated surface. HL-1 cells are grown for 4 days after seeding then observed their attachment. Also they were immunostained by hoechst and EthD-1 for proliferation, phalloidin for Factin, and DAPI for nuclei. Fibronectin was revealed as the proper ECM material for HL-1 cell culture. This study can provide basic information for understanding the cell-ECM interactions and growth of HL-1 cells.
