Green Dyeing of Wool Fibers with Madder: Study of Combination of Two Biomordant on K/S and Fastness

        Mozhgan Hosseinnezhad,Kamaladin Gharanjig,Narjes Razani,Homan Imani 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.9

Nowadays, using sustainable dyeing process has become a necessity, but does not meet performance requirements. Application of biomordants was recommended to enhance the quality of dyeing. Tannin-based biomordants appearedadvantageous in green dyeing; meanwhile, unconditional affinity towards fibers of different types has attracted the attentionof researchers. We introduce the idea of using combination of natural mordant as a new technique for sustainable dyeing ofwool and a model natural fiber. In this study, Iranian madder was used as green dye and Yellow Myrobalan (YM) and BlackMyrobalan (BM) employed as biomordant. FTIR-ATR spectra of the washed, mordanted, and mordanted-dyed wool fibersconfirmed appropriate bonding among wool fibers, green mordant, and dye molecules. The superior color strength of woolfibers dyed with 4 %YM+6 %BM and 40 % madder was featured by K/S value of 35.77 and was obviously higher than thatof madder by sumac, 9.5. Fastness properties (light, wash, and rub fastness) of wool dyed with combination of YM and BMwere good.

The Use of Sumac as a Natural Mordant in Green Production of Iranian Carpet

        Mozhgan Hosseinnezhad,Kamaladin Gharanjig,Samaneh Belbasi,Seyed Hadi Seied Saadati,Mohammad Reza Saeb 한국섬유공학회 2018 Fibers and polymers Vol.19 No.9

Dyeing is a state-of-the-art realm of textile engineering, however, the emphasis on petroleum-based products is now shifting towards green fibers, particularly, green manufacturing processes. In the present work, a natural mordant, sumac, was extracted and used alone and in combination with alum (a mineral mordant) in silk fibers dyeing with madder and Reseda green dye to make the green production of Iranian carpet possible. The FT-IR ATR spectra of the washed, mordanted, and mordanted dyed silk fibers revealed bonding between silk fibers and green materials. The color of the silk fibers dyed with madder and Reseda extraction was quantified in terms of CIELab (L*, a*, and b*) and K/S values. The effects of different treatments on fastness properties including light, wash, and rubbing fastness were assessed by ISO standard test method.

Investigation of Synthesis, Application and Fluorescent Properties of Novel Acid Dyes Based on Perylene on Polyamide Fabrics

        Hamed Forootan,Kamaladin Gharanjig,Ebrahim Ghasemi,Majid Mazhar,Aylin Gharanjik,Shima Jahankaran 한국섬유공학회 2023 Fibers and polymers Vol.24 No.2

Two novel perylene-based acid dyes were synthesized to produce fluorescent polyamide fabrics. The dyes were made by reactingperylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride (PTCA) with sulfanilic acid and 1-amino-8-hydroxy-3,6-naphthalenedisulfonic acid (H-acid) in imidazole as a solvent. FTIR, 1HNMR, UV–Vis, elemental analysis, and spectro-luminescencewere used to characterize the synthesized dyes. Dyes with approximately similar maximum wavelengths had molar absorptioncoefficients of 42,996 and 8636 l mol-1 cm-11 in water. The dyes showed a negative solvatochromism effect with changing thepolarity of solvents from water to methanol. Also, the sulfanilic acid-based dye had a higher quantum efficiency (φ = 0.79)and stokes shift (1999 cm-1) than the H-acid-based dye in water. The DFT method analyzed the synthesized dyes' HOMO,LUMO, bandgap, dihedral angles, and angle of substitution. Both dyes had the same bandgap and dihedral angles. Substitutedsulfanilic acid derivative had more planar structure than H-acid derivative. The synthesized molecules were used to dyepolyamide fabrics. Dyeing kinetics were based on pseudo-second-order and Langmuir isotherms. Also, the sulfanilic-acidderivative had more build-up on polyamide fabrics. According to fabric fastness tests, synthetic dyes had excellent washingand rubbing stability but weak to moderate light fastness. Finally, the fluorescent properties of dyed fabrics were obtained.

Grafting of prepared chitosan–poly(propylene) imines dendrimer hybrid as a biopolymer onto cotton and its antimicrobial property

Mousa Sadeghi-Kiakhani,Kamaladin Gharanjig,Mokhtar Arami 한국공업화학회 2015 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.28 No.-

Cotton was successfully treated by chitosan––dendrimer PPI hybrid (CS–PPI) using pad-dry-curemethod. Scanning electron microscope (SEM), Fourier transform infra red (FTIR) and weight gainanalysis clearly confirmed that CS–PPI was grafted on cotton through the formation of new chemicalbonds. Due to the presence of CS–PPI on the surface of cotton, the weight gain of cotton was 6%increased, and consequently the antimicrobial activity of the treated fabrics under optimum conditionswas raised. As a worthy phenomenon, the treated cotton with CS–PPI in a concentration of 20% on theweight of the fabric was shown 100% of bacterial reduction.
