The electrical repulsive energy between two model cylinders was calculated by solving nonlinear Poission- Boltzmann (P-B) equation under Derjaguin approximation. Effects of the surface potential, Debye screening length, and configuration of cylinders on the repulsive interaction energy were examined. Due to the anisotropy of the shape of cylinder, the interaction repulsive energy showed dependence to the configuration of particles; cylinders aligned in end-to-end configuration showed largest repulsive energy and crossed particles had lowest interaction energy. The configuration effect is originated from the curvature effect of the interacting surfaces. The curved surfaces showed less repulsive energy than flat surfaces at the same interacting surface area. Human feet are easily deformed by congenital foot shape or gait. Foot deformations can cause diseases of the spine or joints, so foot deformations can be prevented or treated using customized insoles. However, since it takes much time and cost to produce customized insoles, the insoles pads are manufactured by additive manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing recently. However, pads manufactured with 3D printing have different material properties depending on the printing patterns and infill densities, making it difficult to provide a pad suitable for individual foot deformation. This study proposed the measurement method of plantar pressures and optimized the printing patterns and infill densities for 3D printing by minimizing the difference in plantar pressure distribution between normal pads and 3D printing pads.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This is the first report of bacterial center blackening in muskmelon fruit caused by <I>Pseudomonas oryzihabitans</I>, which is known as an opportunistic pathogen of humans and warm-blooded animals. The aim of this study was to investigate the microbiological characteristics of this infection. Bacterial center blackening, which can cause aversion in consumers, was observed in muskmelon fruit in South Korea in the fall of 2017. Symptoms included severe black pigmentation in the pulp surrounding the seeds inside muskmelon fruit. Dark brown pigmentation and gram-negative, non-spore-forming, rod-shaped pseudomonads were consistently recovered from the black pigmented pulp tissue of muskmelons. The symptoms after artificial inoculation were the same as those of the natural infection, while the control fruit exhibited no symptoms of infection. Using pathogenicity tests, analytical profile index (API) tests, whole-cell matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS), and 16S rRNA gene and <I>gyrB</I> region sequencing, the dominant species was identified as <I>P. oryzihabitans</I>. The recent outbreak indicates that <I>P. oryzihabitans</I> poses a potential threat to the global production and transportation of muskmelon as well as food safety.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Center blackening by <I>P. oryzihabitans</I> in muskmelon fruit was firstly described. </LI> <LI> <I>P. oryzihabitans</I> is an opportunistic pathogen of humans and warm-blooded animals. </LI> <LI> <I>P. oryzihabitans</I> contamination can pose a threat to food safety and health. </LI> <LI> Center blackening of melon poses a potential threat to its production and transportation. </LI> </UL> </P>
Clinical and Radiological Characteristics of Angiomatous Meningiomas

Background Angiomatous meningioma is a rare histological subtype of meningioma. Therefore, this specific medical condition is rarely reviewed in the literature. In the present work, we report the clinical and radiological features with postoperative outcomes of angiomatous meningioma. Methods This retrospective study included the patients who were pathologically diagnosed with angiomatous meningioma after surgical resection between February 2010 and September 2015 in our institute. We analyzed the clinical data, radiological manifestation, treatment and prognosis of all patients. Results The 15 patients (5 males and 10 females) were diagnosed with angiomatous meningioma during the study period. The median age of patients at the time of surgery was 63 years (range: 40 to 80 years). According to Simpson classification, 7, 5, and 3 patients achieved Simpson grade I, II, and IV resection, respectively. In the follow-up period, recurrence was noted in one patient. Ten out of the 15 patients showed homogeneous enhancement. Two patients demonstrated cystic changes. There was no occurrence of calcification or hemorrhage in our patients. Characteristically, 14 out of 15 patients showed signal voids of vessels. Significant peritumoral edema was observed in the majority of tumors (67%). Conclusion Angiomatous meningiomas are rare benign meningioma. Brain images of angiomatous meningioma usually demonstrate signal void signs and peritumoral edema. In the present study, angiomatous meningiomas showed good prognosis after surgical resection.

Purpose: We sought to determine associations of urinary neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and liver-type fatty acid-binding protein (L-FABP), known markers of renal injury, with hematuria in children and adolescents. Methods: A total of 112 urine samples from 72 patients aged 2 to 18 years with hematuria were enrolled in this study. Urinary concentrations of NGAL and L-FABP were measured by ELISA and compared between subjects with and without proteinuria and between subjects with and without glomerulonephritis diagnosed by renal biopsy. Results: Urinary concentrations of NGAL and L-FABP/creatinine (Cr) in subjects with proteinuria were not significantly different from those in subjects without proteinuria. They were not significant different between subjects with and without glomerulonephritis either. However, both concentrations of urinary NGAL and L-FABP/Cr were positively associated with urinary protein to creatinine ratio. Their levels had a tendency to be increased when proteinuria developed at later visits in subjects with hematuria only at initial visits. Conclusion: Monitoring urinary NGAL and L-FABP levels in addition to conventional risk factors such as proteinuria and serum creatinine might improve the prediction of renal injury in pediatric patients with hematuria.
