Objective: This study aimed to investigate whether maternal negative affectivity (MNA) moderates the effect of genetic polymorphism of SLC6A4 on behavior problems in children. Methods: Study participants comprised 143 preschoolers and their mothers from South Korea. The Childhood Behavior Checklist and Emotionality, Activity, and Sociability adult scale were used to measure child behavior and maternal affectivity. DNA from saliva was genotyped to determine serotonin transporter polymorphism. Results: MNA appeared to exert effects in externalizing (b =5.78, p<0.001) and internalizing problems (b =6.09, p< 0.001). Interaction between SLCA4 polymorphism and MNA showed effects on externalizing (b =−7.62, p<0.01) and internalizing problems (b =−9.77, p<0.01). Children with two short alleles showed considerable differences in both externalizing and internalizing problems according to MNA; however, children with one short allele or none showed relatively few differences in behavior problems due to maternal affectivity. Conclusion: The effect of SLC6A4 polymorphism on child behavior seemed to be moderated by MNA. In addition, the impact of MNA was found to vary based on a child’s genetic risk. High MNA may trigger the risk allele while low MNA causes the risk allele to illicit less behavior problems. Children with two short variants of the SLC6A4 gene may benefit from intervention that modulates MNA.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the causal relationship between perceived coach feedback types, sports ability beliefs, and deliberate practice among high school Taekwondo athletes. The participants were 287 athletes affiliated with high school Taekwondo clubs (184 males, 103 females). Data were collected through a survey, and descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis were conducted to derive the results. The findings revealed the following: Firstly, corrective feedback among coach feedback types influenced the subfactors of sports ability beliefs, specifically learning and improvement (incremental belief), while negative feedback influenced safety and talent (entity belief). Secondly, both corrective and negative feedback types had significant effects on deliberate practice. Thirdly, the subfactor of learning and improvement (incremental belief) within sports ability beliefs had a significant impact on deliberate practice. These results suggest that coaches using corrective feedback are most desirable in promoting athletes' incremental belief and deliberate practice.

Osteomyelitis typically occurs because of the direct inoculation of bacteria or fungi after penetrating trauma or surgical contamination or, by extension, from soft tissue infection. Osteomyelitis is rarely reported in wildlife animals, though severe chronic osteomyelitis cases do exist in wildlife owing to the scarcity of medical support in the wild environment. This report describes three cases of chronic osteomyelitis in wild raccoon dogs related to trauma. The typical symptoms of three reported cases were ataxia, stiffness, muscle atrophy, and lethargy. All three cases were relevant to traumatic or severe external injury, and skin infestation caused by ectoparasites was apparent on an ocular inspection. In the radiographic examination, diffuse sites of osteolytic lesions and remarkable periosteal responses were demonstrated around the injured limb in all three cases. Apparent neutrophilia with a left shift, lymphocytosis, and monocytosis in hematological examinations generally indicated chronic infection as shown in case 1 and 3. Treatment was attempted with broad-spectrum antibiotics and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, such as amoxicillin/clavulanic acid, enrofloxacin, clindamycin, and meloxicam. These treatment options helped improve the overall prognosis of chronic osteomyelitis, but the outcomes did not meet the treatment goal entirely. Osteomyelitis can be extremely challenging to treat, particularly in wild animals, because of their distinctive traits, such as masking phenomenon and uncontrolled exposure to ectoparasites. Earlier diagnosis with a radiographic examination, hematological examinations, and careful patient monitoring, followed by prolonged antibiotic therapy and restricted exercise, are the key factors leading to a better prognosis.
Interdecadal changes in winter surface air temperature over East Asia and their possible causes

<P>Using ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) for detecting the interdecadal changes in the East Asian winter monsoon (EAWM), this study identifies that the intensity of the EAWM experienced remarkable transition around mid-1980s and late 2000s: a strong period (P1, 1960-1986), a weak period (P2, 1987-2007), and a strong period (P3, 2008-2015). A distinctive cold (warm) surface temperature anomaly is found over the Eurasian continent including East Asia, and cold (warm) sea surface temperature (SST) anomalies are present over the North Pacific (NP) during P1 (P2). In contrast with P1, the EAWM is characterized by a large temperature difference between Eurasian continent and NP, and a negative Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO)-like SST anomaly pattern is found over the NP during P3. During three periods, the Siberian high (SH) plays an important role in deciding the intensity of the EAWM. In addition, the EAWM exists under the influence of an enhanced atmospheric circulation associated with a positive North Pacific Oscillation (NPO) and a negative PDO during P2 and P3, respectively. Accordingly, to recognize the relative importance of each combined effect which it differs for times, the combined effect of SH and NPO (SH and PDO) variability on the weakening (strengthening) EAWM is explored during P1 and P2 (P2 and P3). Consequently, while the atmospheric variabilities of SH and NPO bring about the weakening of EAWM after the mid-1980s, the SST variability related to PDO with the SH variabilty is involved in the strengthening of EAWM in recent decade.</P>
