        Case report of pseudo-pheochromocytoma in a dog

        Pseudo-pheochromocytoma is defined as an adrenal tumor that has the typical characteristics of pheochromocytoma likely hypertension but is histopathologically diagnosed to other types of adrenal tumors. 11-year-old, castrated male Maltese presented for a left adrenal mass with hypertension. According to clinical signs and radiological features, a temporary diagnosis was made of pheochromocytoma. The adrenalectomy was performed and the histopathological examination of the resected adrenal gland was diagnosed as cortical adenocarcinoma. This report describes the case of pseudo-pheochromocytoma in a dog and implies the salience that even if pheochromocytoma is diagnosed based on all test results, pseudo-pheochromocytoma should not be excluded.

        안테나로부터 인접 전송선로에 전달되는 노이즈 전력 예측

        최근 모바일 기기는 더욱 더 경량화, 집적화되고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 안테나 출력의 향상을 위해 주파수 대역이 높아지면서 안테나로부터 방사되는 전자파가 기기 내부의 회로에 영향을 주어, 전체적으로 기기의 성능을 악화시키는 EMI(Electro Magnetic Interference) 문제가 빈번히 발생하게 되었다. 본 논문에서는 기기의 안테나로부터 인접한 내부 전송선로에 전달되는 노이즈 전력을 예측하기 위한 방법론을 제시한다. 전송선로에 전달되는 노이즈 전력은 기본적으로 안테나 내부 임피던스와 전송선로의 부하 임피던스에 따라 달라지지만, 그 변화의 폭이 크지 않아서 안테나와 전송선로 사이의 S-parameter 제곱의 형태로 전달되는 전력 이득의 크기로 나타낼 수 있음을 보였으며, 이렇게 정의된 전력 전달 인덱스(index)를 이용하여 전송선의 기하학적 형태에 따라서 달라지는 노이즈 전력을 표현하였다. 그 결과, 안테나의 위치의 변화에 따라서 전달되는 노이즈 전력에는 많은 차이가 났으며, 특히 굽은 전송선로에서 많은 노이즈 전달이 발생함을 알 수 있었다. 또, 이와 같은 실험적인 결과가 EM 시뮬레이션을 이용한 결과와 잘 일치하였고, 근거리, 원거리장에서의 전기장 분포를 고려할 때 그 결과들이 물리적으로 유의함을 보였다. 본 논문에서 사용한 EM 시뮬레이터는 Ansys HFSS이며, FPCB에서 많이 사용하는 Ground가 있는 CPW(Coplanar Waveguide) 형태의 전송선로를 사용하였다. In these days, many kinds of goods are more light and more integrated. As frequency range of mobile applications have increased to improve performance of antenna furthermore, EMI(ElectroMagnetic Interference) problem has frequently caused by disturbance of antenna in device which aggravates other circuit. This paper proposes a technique for the prediction of noise power to the transmission line from antenna located near the line. Although noise power transferred to transmission line is varied by source impedance of antenna and load impedance of transmission line basically, the power magnitude can be presented in a square form of S-parameter between antenna and transmission line due to small variation of transferred power. For this reason, we can use the index expressed the transferred power varied along geometrical shapes of transmission line. As a result, big difference is occurred along location of antenna especially the bended line. And this such experiment is correspond with simulation, these results have meaning physically considering electromagnetic field distribution in near and far field. HFSS of Ansys and CPW with ground is used in this paper.

      • Link-Based Similarity Measures Using Reachability Vectors

        <P>We present a novel approach for computing link-based similarities among objects accurately by utilizing the link information pertaining to the objects involved. We discuss the problems with previous link-based similarity measures and propose a novel approach for computing link based similarities that does not suffer from these problems. In the proposed approach each target object is represented by a vector. Each element of the vector corresponds to all the objects in the given data, and the value of each element denotes the weight for the corresponding object. As for this weight value, we propose to utilize the probability of reaching from the target object to the specific object, computed using the “Random Walk with Restart” strategy. Then, we define the similarity between two objects as the cosine similarity of the two vectors. In this paper, we provide examples to show that our approach does not suffer from the aforementioned problems. We also evaluate the performance of the proposed methods in comparison with existing link-based measures, qualitatively and quantitatively, with respect to two kinds of data sets, scientific papers and Web documents. Our experimental results indicate that the proposed methods significantly outperform the existing measures.</P>

        Transformation of methylparaben during water chlorination: Effects of bromide and dissolved organic matter on reaction kinetics and transformation pathways

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The reaction kinetics, products, and pathways of methylparaben (MeP) during water chlorination with and without bromide (Br<SUP>−</SUP>) were investigated to better understand the fate of parabens in chlorinated waters. During the chlorination of MeP-spiked waters without Br<SUP>−</SUP>, MeP was transformed into mono-Cl-MeP and di-Cl-MeP with apparent second-order rate constants (<I>k</I> <SUB>app</SUB>) of 64M<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP> and 243M<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP> at pH7, respectively, while further chlorination of di-Cl-MeP was relatively slower (<I>k</I> <SUB>app</SUB> =1.3M<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP> at pH7). With increasing Br<SUP>−</SUP> concentration, brominated MePs, such as mono-Br-MeP, Br-Cl-MeP, and di-Br-MeP, became major transformation products. The di-halogenated MePs (di-Cl-MeP, Br,Cl-MeP, and di-Br-MeP) showed relatively low reactivity to chlorine at pH7 (<I>k</I> <SUB>app</SUB> =1.3–4.6M<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP>) and bromine (<I>k</I> <SUB>app</SUB> =32–71M<SUP>−1</SUP> s<SUP>−1</SUP>), which explains the observed high stability of di-halogenated MePs in chlorinated waters. With increasing pH from 7 to 8.5, the transformation of di-halogenated MePs was further slowed due to the decreasing reactivity of di-MePs to chlorine. The formation of the di-halogenated MePs and their further transformation become considerably faster at Br<SUP>−</SUP> concentrations higher than 0.5μM (40μg/L). Nonetheless, the accelerating effect of Br<SUP>−</SUP> diminishes in the presence of dissolved organic matter (DOM) extract (Suwannee River humic acid (SRHA)) due to a more rapid consumption of bromine by DOM than chlorine. The effect of Br<SUP>−</SUP> on the fate of MeP was less in the tested real water matrices, possibly due to a more rapid bromine consumption by the real water DOM compared to SRHA. A kinetic model was developed based on the determined species-specific second-order rate constants for chlorination/bromination of MeP and its chlorinated and brominated MePs and the transformation pathway information, which could reasonably simulate the transformation of MePs during the chlorination of water in the presence of Br<SUP>−</SUP> and selected DOM.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Transformation kinetics and pathways of methylparaben during chlorination are studied. </LI> <LI> Second-order rate constants for chlorine/bromine with methylparabens are reported. </LI> <LI> Brominated methylparabens are dominant over chlorinated ones with increasing bromide. </LI> <LI> Bromide effect on methylparaben transformation diminishes by dissolved organic matter. </LI> <LI> The developed kinetic model can simulate the paraben transformation in chlorination. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
