The genus Saissetia Deplanche is newly reported from Laos, including two new species, Saissetia simulocoffeae Choi & Lee, sp. n. and S. quasioleae Choi & Lee sp. n., and a first record of S. miranda (Cockerell & Parrott, 1899). A key to all five species of Saissetia known from Indochina is provided. The DNA barcodes (mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I-mtCOI) of the two new species were obtained for future use.

The Japanese pine bast scale, Matsucoccus matsumurae (Kuwana, 1905), is a destructive pest of pine trees in America, East Asia and Northern Europe. The spread of damage to black pine trees, Pinus thunbergii, of M. matsumurae was reported from all southern, and some eastern and west costal regions in Korea, under the name of M. thunbergianae which was newly described by Miller & Park (1987) as a new species. Historically, M. thunbergianae was synonymized with M. matsumurae by Booth & Gullan (2006), on the basis of molecular sequence data. However, the supporting data for the synonym is unavailable in any DNA database, such as GenBank and BOLD. Moreover, M. thunbergianae have been still used to the resent scientific studies in Korea. Here, we performed morphological and molecular comparison to review the result of Booth & Gullan (2006), using M. matsumurae from Fukuoka, Japan and topotype materials of M. thunbergianae from Goheung, Korea. Our data supported the opinion of Booth & Gullan (2006) following results: The morphological features of adult female and male of M. thunbergianae are identical to those of M. matsumurae. Also, DNA sequences (COI, 18S rDNA and 28S rDNA) of M. thunbergianae showed identical or very low genetic distances with those of M. matsumurae. From the regional sampling in Korea, M. matsumurae was newly found in Jeju and Seoul.

A new species of Discochiton Hodgson & Williams, 2018 collected on culms of Bambusa sp. (Poaceae) in Myanmar is described and illustrated. The new species is morphologically similar to D. expansum (Green, 1896), but distinct from it in having the legs four or five segmented, the preopercular pores associated with all four clear areas, and the 10–16 stigmatic spines on each cleft; in D. expansum, it has the legs reduced to single-segmented leg stub, the preopercular pores associated with two or three clear areas, and the 3–7 stigmatic spines.

Coccidae is one of the major families of scale insects, with many species considered to be serious agricultural or horticultural pests. However, the phylogenetic relationships among coccid subfamilies, tribes and genera are poorly understood because the previous hypotheses are based only on morphological characters and cladistic analysis. Here, we present the first molecular phylogeny of the family based on DNA fragments of a mitochondrial gene (COI), nuclear ribosomal RNA genes (18S and 28S), and elongation factor-1α (EF-1α). We recover a monophyletic family Coccidae with strong support. However, some genera (Coccus and Pulvinaria), tribes (Coccini, Paralecaniini, Pulvinariini and Saissetiini) and subfamilies (Coccinae and Filippiinae) within the family found to be paraphyletic- or polyphyletic. Moreover, particular types of wax formation, which have been used as important taxonomic characters in Coccidae, were found in several unrelated taxa.

The soft scales (Hemiptera: Coccidae) are plant-sucking insects, some of which are considered as serious agricultural pests. Here, we performed phylogenetic analysis of Coccidae, based on molecular fragments 1813bp containing mitochondrial DNA (COI), nuclear ribosomal RNA genes (18S and 28S), and elongation factor 1α (EF1-α). Data sets of 64 taxa were analyzed using maximum likelihood (ML) and Bayesian inference (BI). Our molecular analyses represent: 1) Monophyletic clade of Ceroplastinae is nested within the major clade of Coccinae; 2) Four tribes of Coccinae are paraphyletic, especially Megapulvinaria and Paralecanium not clustered within the major clade of Coccinae; 3) Didesmococcus is separated from the clade of Eulecaniinae; 4) Filippiinae and Cardiococcinae are paraphyletic with respect to some of Coccinae and Eulecaniinae.

Tribe Saissetiini Hodgson, 1994 are reviewed as 8 species of 3 genera from Korea, including Parthenolecanium fletcheri (Cockerell, 1893) and Saissetia miranda (Cockerell & Parrott, 1899) new to the Korean peninsula. Diagnosis and descriptions for Korean species are redescribed with illustrations, photographs and key to species.
A review of the genus Pulvinaria Targioni Tozzetti (Hemiptera : Coccidae) from Korea

Pulvinaria regalis Canard, 1968 is newly recorded in the Korean peninsula. The genus Pulvinaria Targioni Tozzetti (Hemiptera: Coccidae) is revised as 6 species from Korean peninsula including a new record P. regalis. In this study, we provide description, illustration and key to species of this group.
Review of the Tribe Pulvinariini Ashmead, 1891 (Hemiptera: Coccidae) from Korea

The Tribe Pulvinariini Ashmead, 1891 in Korea is reviewed with a newly reported genus Leptopulvinaria Kanda, 1960. The tribe Pulvinariini is revised as 8 species of 2 genera from Korean peninsula including three new records, Leptopulvinaria kawaii Tanaka & Amano, 2008, Pulvinaria hydrangea Steinweden, 1946 and P. photiniae Kuwana, 1914. In this study, the morphological data about adult females of the species are redescribed from Korean specimens and diagnosis, descriptions and illustrations are also provided.

This study presents a comprehensive analysis of the renowned artist Frank Stella’s works with focus on his artistic trajectorythe 1950s to the 1980s. By providing a detailed analysis of his works and their theoretical underpinnings, the purpose of this study is to investigate how Stella’s artistic practice disrupts traditional notions of painting and engages with the concept of space. Through Stella’s artistic journey, the paper argues for his innovative role in redefining painting and highlights his journeythe limitations of flatness to the realm of three-dimensional space. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to a deeper understanding of Stella’s artistic evolution during this critical period and its implications for the broader field of abstract art.
