Effects of prolonged photoperiod on growth performance, serum lipids and meat quality of Jinjiang cattle in winter

        Yu, Yan,Qiu, Jingyun,Cao, Jincheng,Guo, Yingying,Bai, Hui,Wei, Shengjuan,Yan, Peishi Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2021 Animal Bioscience Vol.34 No.9

Objective: This study was conducted to investigate the potential effects of prolonged photoperiod on the serum lipids, carcass traits, and meat quality of Jinjiang cattle during winter. Methods: Thirty-four Jinjiang bulls aged between 14 and 16 months were randomly assigned to two groups that were alternatively subjected to either natural daylight +4 h supplemental light (long photoperiod, LP) or natural daylight (natural photoperiod, NP) for 96 days. The potential effects on the levels of serum lipids, carcass traits, meat quality, and genes regulating lipid metabolism in the intramuscular fat (IMF) of the cattle were evaluated. Results: Jinjiang cattle kept under LP showed significant increase in both dry matter intake and backfat thickness. the serum glucose and the plasma leptin levels were significantly reduced, while that of melatonin and insulin were observed to be increased. The crude fat contents of biceps femoris muscle and longissimus dorsi muscle were higher in LP than in NP group. In longissimus dorsi muscle, the proportions of C17:0 and C18:0 were significantly higher but that of the C16:1 was found to be significantly lower in LP group. The relative mRNA expressions in IMF of longissimus dorsi muscle, the lipid synthesis genes (proliferator-activated receptor gamma, fatty acid-binding protein) and the fatty acid synthesis genes (acetyl-coa carboxylase, fatty acid synthetase, 1-acylglycerol-3-phosphate acyltransferase) were significantly up-regulated in LP group (p<0.05); whereas the hormone-sensitive lipase and stearoyl-CoA desaturase 1 were significantly down-regulated in LP than in NP group. Conclusion: Prolonged photoperiod significantly altered the growth performance, hormonal levels, gene expression and fat deposition in Jinjiang cattle. It suggested that the LP improved the fat deposition by regulating the levels of different hormones and genes related to lipid metabolism, thereby improving the fattening of Jinjiang cattle during winter.

A Multisource PNT Fusion Algorithm Based on a Variance Genetic Model

        Qing Hu,Jing Jia,Yue Zhu,Jingyun Cao,Jinyuan Li 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2022 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.20 No.4

As one of the long-term challenges faced by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the global navigation satellite system (GNSS) has become increasingly complicated with the rapid development of intelligent ships and autonomous navigation ships. GNSS vulnerability is an important factor affecting navigation safety. Therefore, we propose a multisource position, navigation and time (PNT) data fusion algorithm based on the study of multisource shipborne PNT system model. This algorithm uses the variance genetic model to estimate the measurement variance of a PNT source at the subsequent time step to obtain an estimated value that is close to the real value, thus producing an optimal fusion factor for each PNT source and obtaining highly reliable and high-precision PNT fusion data. The simulation and measurement results show that the multisource PNT fusion algorithm based on the variance genetic model can provide superior reliability and precision when the PNT source is disturbed by abnormal interference.

The combination of deoxynivalenol and zearalenone at permitted feed concentrations causes serious physiological effects in young pigs

        Feng Chen,Yulin Ma,Chunyi Xue,Jingyun Ma,Qingmei Xie,Genhu Wang,Yingzuo Bi,Yongchang Cao 대한수의학회 2008 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.9 No.1

This study was to investigate the effects of the combination of deoxynivalenol (DON) and zearalenone (ZON) on pigs. Twenty-four weaning piglets were divided into a control group fed a diet free of mycotoxins and a toxin group fed a diet containing 1 mg/kg DON and 250 μg/kg ZON. The results showed that supplementation of DON and ZON in diets had extensive effects on pigs. More specifically, DON and ZON caused levels of total protein, albumin, and globulin in sera to decrease (p < 0.05) by 14.5%, 6.5% and 11.3%, respectively, and at the same time increased (p < 0.05) the serum enzyme activities of γ-glutamyltransferase, aspartate aminotransferase and alanine aminotransferase by 72.0%, 32.6% and 36.6%, respectively. In addition, DON and ZON decreased (p < 0.05) the level of anticlassical swine fever antibody titers by 14.8%. Real-time PCR showed that DON and ZON caused the mRNA expression levels of IFN-γ, TNF-α, IL-2, to decrease (p < 0.05) by 36.0%, 29.0% and 35.4%, respectively. Histopathological studies demonstrated that DON and ZON caused abnormalities in the liver, spleen, lymph nodes, uterus, and kidney. The concentrations of DON and ZON used in this study are in line with the published critical values permitted by BML. Our study clearly put the standard and adequacy of safety measures for these toxins into question. The authors suggest that with the increasing availability of cellular and molecular technologies, it is time to revisit the safety standards for toxins in feeds so as to make feeds safer, providing consumers with safer products. Genetic Analysis and Serological Detection of Novel O-Antigen Gene Clusters of Plesiomonas shigelloides

( Xiaochen Wang ),( Daoyi Xi ),( Yuehua Li ),( Junxiang Yan ),( Jingyun Zhang ),( Xi Guo ),( Boyang Cao ) 한국미생물생명공학회(구 한국산업미생물학회) 2021 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.31 No.4

Plesiomonas shigelloides, a member of the family Vibrionaceae, is a gram-negative, rod-shaped, facultative anaerobic bacterium with flagella. P. shigelloides has been isolated from such sources as freshwater, surface water, and many wild and domestic animals. P. shigelloides contains 102 Oantigens and 51 H-antigens. The diversity of O-antigen gene clusters is relatively poorly understood. In addition to O1 and O17 reported by other laboratories, and the 12 O serogroups (O2, O10, O12, O23, O25, O26, O32, O33, O34, O66, O75, and O76) reported previously by us, in the present study, nine new P. shigelloides serogroups (O8, O17, O18, O37, O38, O39, O44, O45, and O61) were sequenced and annotated. The genes for the O-antigens of these nine groups are clustered together in the chromosome between rep and aqpZ. Only O38 possesses the wzm and wzt genes for the synthesis and translocation of O-antigens via the ATP-binding cassette (ABC) transporter pathway; the other eight use the Wzx/Wzy pathway. Phylogenetic analysis using wzx and wzy showed that both genes are diversified. Among the nine new P. shigelloides serogroups, eight use wzx/wzy genes as targets. In addition, we developed an O-antigen-specific PCR assay to detect these nine distinct serogroups with no cross reactions among them.
