        INFORMAL POLITICAL COALITIONS AND PRIVATE INVESTMENT IN CHINA

        This article attempts to estimate the effects of informal political coalitions on China's private investment. Theoretically, the party-state clients of China's supreme leaders are expected to have stronger incentives to foster economic growth. One way of doing so is to encourage private investment by reducing its political risks. Analysis of provincial-level panel data from 1993 to 2017 shows that personal connections—based on shared experience in the same work unit—between provincial leaders and the Chinese Communist Party's incumbent supreme leader significantly increase the growth rate of private investment. This suggests that informal institutional relations may assist the development of China's private economy by partially compensating for the weaknesses of formal rule-of-law institutions.

      • On the Design of Geodetic SVLBI Satellite Orbit and Its Tracking Network

        SVLBI (Space Very Long Baseline Interferometry) has some important potential applications in geodesy and geodynamics, for which one of the most difficult tasks is to precisely determine the orbit of SVLBI satellite. This paper studies several technologies which possibly will be able to determine the orbit of space VLBI satellite. And then, according to the sorts and characteristics of satellite and the requirements for geodetic study and the geometry of GNSS (GPS, GALILEO) satellite to track the space VLBI satellite, the six Keplerian elements of SVLBI satellite (TEST-SVLBl) are determined. A program is designed to analyze the coverage area of the space of different heights by the stations of the network, with which the tracking network of TEST-SVLBl is designed. The efficiency of tracking TEST-SVLBI by the network is studied, and the results are presented.

        Novel impedance matching method based on negative resistors for WPT

        In a wireless power transfer (WPT) system via coupled magnetic resonance, the transmission power and efficiency dramatically decrease with increased in the transfer distance and load variations. In the conventional impedance matching method, different resistors are matched by adjusting passive devices such as capacitors and inductors. The corresponding matching range changes with different topological network structures. In particular, there exists a matching forbidden zone. In this paper, a novel impedance matching method based on a negative resistor is proposed to match the impedance in the forbidden zone. First, the conventional impedance matching network is analyzed based on circuit theory. Then, the feasibility of the proposed method is verified. In addition, the receiving power obtained using the conventional matching method is compared with that obtained using the proposed method. It is theoretically verified that the novel method can break the upper power limit related to the conventional method, which realizes a higher receiving power. A prototype was built in the laboratory. Experimental results show the feasibility of the novel method. Moreover, derived simulation results were basically consistent with the experimental values, which also demonstrates the validity of the proposed method.

        Effects of ultrasonic treatment on the gel properties of microbial transglutaminase crosslinked soy, whey and soy–whey proteins

        This paper studied the influences of diverse ultrasonic power treatments on the physico-chemical properties of soy–whey mixed protein induced by microbial transglutaminase. Two groups of 15% (m/v) of protein solution-sole protein (as control group) and mixed protein were prepared and processed under different ultrasonic powers for 30 min. After ultrasonic power treatments, gel properties were significantly increased: under 300 W, the gel hardness of mixed protein reached a maximum of 998.9 g, with its water binding capacity scoring a maximum of 87%. According to the analysis of fluorescence emission spectrum, the fluorescence intensity and maximum absorption peak had changed, for different ultrasonic power treatments had exposed more groups. The Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy also suggested that ultrasonic power treatments could change the secondary structure of gel samples. The scanning electron microscope demonstrated that the network structure of mixed protein gel displayed more regular and uniform after ultrasonic treatments.
