Terabit-per-square-inch Phase-change Recording on Ge-Sb- Te Media with Protective Overcoatings

We reported here nano-scale electrical phase-change recording in amorphous GezSbz Tes media using an atomic force microscope (AFM) having conducting probes. In recording process, a pulse voltage is applied to the conductive probe that touches the media surface to change locally the electrical resistivity of a film. However, in contact operation, tip/media wear and contamination could major obstacles, which degraded SNR, reproducibility, and lifetime. In order to overcome tip/media wear and contamination in contact mode operation, we adopted the W incorporated diamond-like carbon (W-DLC) films as a protective layer. Optimized mutilayer media were prepared by a hybrid deposition system of PECVD and RF magnetron sputtering. When suitable electrical pulses were applied to media through the conducting probe, it was observed that data bits as small as 25 nm in diameter have been written and read with good reproducibility, which corresponds to a data density of 1 Tbitlinchz. We concluded that stable electrical phase-change recording was possible mainly due to W-DLC layer, which played a role not only capping layer but also resistive layer.
First Report on Gray Blight of Tea Plant Caused by Pestalotiopsis theae in Korea

A fungus associated with gray blight on tea plant (Camellia sinensis) was identifed as Pestalotiopsis theae based on the mycological characteristics. Mycelial growth on potato dextrose agar and size and shape of conidia of P. theae were similar to those of P. longiseta, but P. theae was different from P. longiseta in the color of three median cells and the number of apical appendages. Artificial inoculation of conidial suspension or mycelial mats on the wounded leaves and shoots of healthy plants induced the same disease, respectively. The Korean native variety was relatively. The Korean native variety was relatively more resistat to P. theae than a Japanese variety‘Yabukita’which has bee recently introduced and planted in large areas of southern parts of Korea. Here, we report the report the first record of gary blight caused by P. theae on tea plant in Korea.

This paper describes the measurement of antenna factor using HP 9000 series computer and IEEE-488 interface bus in OATS(Open Area Test Site) of KRISS. All control and data acquisition were done by computer automatically. The measurement frequency range is 30-1000 MHz, SAM(Standard Antenna Method) and SSM(Standard Site Method) were used for measuring an tenna factors. Measurement results of antenna factors are presented.

In this paper, the automatic precision measurement of RF voltage has been done using the power and impedance standards [1] in the frequency range of 50 to 1000 ㎒. A coaxial microcalorimeter and an automatic network analyzer were used for the determination of the RF-DC differences and the total uncertainty is about 1.0%. A HP computer, a commodore computer, and IEEE-488 interface bus were used for measuring the effective efficiency of thermistor mount and the RF-DC difference of thermal voltage converter, All processes of measurement were accomplished by self-developed program automatically.
