This paper deals with the coordinated output regulation problem of heterogeneous multi-agent systems under switching disconnected topologies. The main difficulty is that the outputs of some disconnected agents can inevitably deviate from the divergent trajectories of exosystems across some periods. To break through this challenge, we propose an interesting approach named piecewise time unit approach, in which each switching interval consists of several time units. By analyzing the trajectories of error states under the distributed observer-based control, the decreasing properties of switching behaviors can be obtained to overcome the divergence of error states. Based on this, the sufficient conditions guaranteeing the output regulation can be obtained. Finally, a simulation example is given to demonstrate our results.

A novel equivalent flux sliding-mode observer (SMO) is proposed for dual three-phase interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (DT-IPMSM) drive system in this paper. The DTIPMSM has two sets of Y-connected stator three-phase windings spatially shifted by 30 electrical degrees. In this method, the sensorless drive system employs a flux SMO with soft phase-locked loop method for rotor speed and position estimation, not only are low-pass filter and phase compensation module eliminated, but also estimation accuracy is improved. Meanwhile, to get the regulator parameters of current control, the inner current loop is realized using a decoupling and diagonal internal model control algorithm. Experiment results of 2MW-level DT-IPMSM drives system show that the proposed method has good dynamic and static performances.

Background: The aim of this meta-analysis was to compare sensitivities and specificities of fine needle aspiration (FNA) and core needle biopsy (CNB) in the diagnosis of thyroid cancer. Materials and Methods: Articles were screened in Medline, the Cochrane Library, EMBASE and Google Scholar, and subsequently included and excluded based on the patient/problem-intervention-comparison-outcome (PICO) principle. Primary outcome was defined in terms of diagnostic values (sensitivity and specificity) of FNA and CNB for thyroid cancer. Secondary outcome was defined as the accuracy of diagnosis. Compiled FNA and CNB results from the final studies selected as appropriate for meta-analysis were compared with cases for which final pathology diagnoses were available. Statistical analyses were performed for FNA and CNB for all of the selected studies together, and for individual studies using the leave-one-out approach. Results: Article selection and screening yielded five studies for meta-analysis, two of which were prospective and the other three retrospective, for a total of 1,264 patients. Pooled diagnostic sensitivities of FNA and CNB methods were 0.68 and 0.83, respectively, with specificities of 0.93 and 0.94. The areas under the summary ROC curves were 0.905 (${\pm}0.030$) for FNA and 0.745 (${\pm}0.095$) for CNB, with no significant difference between the two. No one study had greater influence than any other on the pooled estimates for diagnostic sensitivity and specificity. Conclusions: FNA and CNB do not differ significantly in sensitivity and specificity for diagnosis of thyroid cancer.

Manipulating the magnetization of ferromagnets by the current-induced spin-orbit torque has great potential application in the design of low energy consumption spintronic devices. Normally, an external magnetic field is needed for the reversal of current assisted magnetization by the spin-orbit torque. Recently, the switching of magnetization driven by the spin-orbit torque in the absence of an external magnetic field was reported in a Ta/Co20Fe60B20/TaOxsystem with lateral structural asymmetry. To understand the physics behind this experiment, we performed first principles calculations on the potential profile at the interface between the ferromagnetic film and the wedge-shaped deposited metal oxide in the Ta/Co/TaO system. This revealed that the lateral structural asymmetry generates two additional Rashba interactions which can reduce the minimum external field required to reverse the magnetization. In addition, we derived the Landau-Lifshitz-Gilbert equation from a quantum transport perspective and numerically investigated the magnetization dynamics in ferromagnetic films induced by Rashba interactions including those generated by lateral asymmetry. Our theoretical simulation provides microscopic explanations of experimental observations of magnetization switching in the absence of an external field of devices with lateral structural asymmetry.

Chemerin is a novel adipokine which is abundant in adipose tissue to promote adipocyte differentiation and with significant relativity to BMI and insulin sensitivity. We report here the molecular characterization of porcine chemerin and its receptors ChemR23 and GPR1, as well as their transcriptional regulation during lipogenesis. Chemerin was mainly expressed in liver, intestine, kidney and adipose tissue, consistent with the expression pattern of GPR1, but not ChemR23, which was predominantly present in spleen and temperately in adipose tissue. We further investigated the lipogenesis-related transcriptional activation of PPARγ and KLF15 on chemerin and its receptors. The data showed that KLF15, but not PPARγ, can up-regulate the mRNA level of chemerin, ChemR23 and GPR1, which was consistent with the results of luciferase assay that confirmed the effect of KLF15 on ChemR23 promoter. Taken together, our data provide basic molecular information for the further investigation on the function of chemerin in lipogenesis. [BMB reports 2010; 43(7): 491-498]

OmpA signal peptide mediated cgt gene from Paenibacillus macerans JFB05-01 was cloned and expressed in E. coli BL21 (DE3). The effects of glycine and Triton X-100 on extracellular production of α-cyclodextrin glycosyltransferase (α-CGTase) were investigated. When supplemented with Gly or Triton X-100 to the culture media individually, the secreted extracellular enzyme reached 32or 33 U/mL at 48 h of cultivation, respectively. When supplemented with Gly and Triton X-100 together, the extracellular α-CGTase activity reached 48 U/mL after 48 h cultivation, which was 20-fold of the control group without any additives. Analysis of membrane permeability demonstrated that addition of glycine and Triton X-100enhanced the permeability of both outer and inner membrane. The potential mechanism of the enhanced protein secretion was discussed.

Neural precursor cell-expressed developmentally down-regulated 8 (NEDD8), a ubiquitin-like protein, mainly functions through covalent ligation to cullin proteins. Conjugation of NEDD8 with cullins can promote ubiquitination, which plays a critical role in the degradation of many proteins. UBA3 is the subunit of NEDD8-activating enzyme which is one of the keys for NEDD8 linkage to cullin proteins. Previous research showed NEDD8 conjugation to be up-regulated in highly proliferative cell lines. In the present study, up-regulated NEDD8 conjugation was observed in melanoma cell lines by Western blot analysis. After down-regulation with a RNAi to UBA3, proliferation of M14 was suppressed in vitro and in vivo. In conclusion, up-regulated NEDD8 conjugation may be involved in the development of melanoma. Interference in this pathway might offera promising method for melanoma therapy.
