Broadband Instantaneous Frequency Measurement System Based on the Dual Paths of the Stimulated Brillouin Scattering Effect

Jiahong Zhang,Weijie Liao 한국광학회 2023 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.7 No.4

A wideband instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM) system is been proposed, designed and analyzed. Phase modulation to intensity modulation conversion is implemented based on the stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) effect, and the microwave frequency can be measured by detecting the change in output power. Theoretical analysis shows that the frequency measurement range can be extended to 4f b by adjusting the two sweeping signals of the phase modulators with a difference of 2f b . The IFM system is set up using VPI transmission maker software and the performances are simulated andanalyzed. The simulation results show that the measurement range is 0.5−45.96 GHz with a maximummeasurement error of less than 9.9 MHz. The proposed IFM system has a wider measurement range than the existing SBS-based IFM system.

Approach for Microwave Frequency Measurement Based on a Single Photonic Chip Combined with a Phase Modulator and Microring Resonator

        Zhang, Jiahong,Zhu, Chuyi,Yang, Xiumei,Li, Yingna,Zhao, Zhengang,Li, Chuan Optical Society of Korea 2018 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.2 No.6

A new approach for identification of a microwave frequency using an integrated optical waveguide chip, combined with a phase modulator (PM) and two microring resonators (MRRs), is proposed, theoretically deduced, and verified. By wavelength tuning to set the PM under the condition of a double side band (DSB), the measurement range can be started from the dc component, and the measurement range and response slope can be adjusted by designing the radius and transmission coefficient of the MRR. Simulations reveal that the amplitude comparison function (ACF) has a monotonic relationship from dc to 32.5 GHz, with a response slope of 5.15 dB under conditions of DSB modulation, when the radius values, transmission coefficients, and the loss factors are designed respectively as $R_1=400{\mu}m$, $R_2=600{\mu}m$, $t_1=t_2=0.63$, and ${\gamma}_1={\gamma}_2=0.66$. Theoretical calculations and simulation results both indicate that this new approach has the potential to be used for measuring microwave frequencies, with the advantages of compact structure and superior reconfigurability.

Microwave Instantaneous Frequency Measurement (IFM) Approach Based on an Integrated Photonic Ti:LiNbO3 Y Branch

        Changsheng Zhang,Jiahong Zhang,Zhengang Zhao 한국광학회 2020 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.4 No.4

An approach based on an integrated photonic Ti: LiNbO 3 Y branch has been proposed, designed, and analyzed for the microwave instantaneous frequency measurement (IFM). By designing the Y branch with length L = 6545 µm and refractive index N TE - N TM = 0.0764, a complementary optical filter with free spectral range (FSR) of 600 GHz is constituted, which results in a maximum measureable frequency of 300 GHz being obtained. Theoretical analysis on the temperature stability of the Ti: LiNbO 3 Y branch shows that the FSR variation of the complementary filter is 0.3% for the temperature change of 100 K, which indicates that the IFM approach will have a better stability. All these results demonstrate that the proposed IFM approach has potential capability to be used for the increasingly higher microwave IFM with better stability.

An Optical Intense 2D Electric Field Sensor Using a Single LiNO 3 Crystal

        Yuanying Zhang,Jiahong Zhang,Yingna Li,Hongyi Lei 한국광학회 2022 Current Optics and Photonics Vol.6 No.2

Based on the linear electro-optic (EO) effect of lithium niobite (LiNbO 3 , LN) crystal, an intense twodimensional (2D) electric field sensor was analyzed, fabricated and experimentally demonstrated. The linear polarized light beam transmits along the optical axis (z-axis) of the LN crystal, and the polarization direction of the polarized light is 45° to the y-axis. The sensor can detect the intensity of a 2D electric field that is perpendicular to the z-axis. Experimental results demonstrated that the minimum detectable electric field of the sensor is 10.5 kV/m. The maximum detected electric field of the sensor is larger than 178.9 kV/m. The sensitivity of the sensor is 0.444 mV/(kV·m −1 ). The variation of the sensitivity is within ±0.16 dB when the sensor is rotated around a z-axis from 0° to 360°. The variation of the sensoroutput optical power is within ±1.4 dB during temperature change from 19 ℃ to 26 ℃ in a day (from 7:00 AM to 23:00 PM) and temperature change from 0 ℃ to 40 ℃ in a controllable temperature chamber. All theoretical and experimental results revealed that the fabricated sensor provides technology for the direct detection of intense 2D electric fields.

Interfacial Reaction in (Mg-37.5Al)/(Mg-6.7Nd) Diffusion Couples

        Jiahong Dai,Shijun Shen,Bin Jiang,Jianyue Zhang,Qingshan Yang,Zhongtao Jiang,Hanwu Dong,Fusheng Pan 대한금속·재료학회 2016 METALS AND MATERIALS International Vol.22 No.1

The solid-state diffusion reaction between Mg-37.5Al and Mg-6.7Nd was studied in the 623-673 K temperature range. A solid-liquid contact method was employed to produce diffusion couples. The Al4Nd, Al11Nd3, Al3Nd and Al2Nd intermetallic compounds form in the diffusion reaction layers of the couples. The formation of intermetallic compounds in the diffusion reaction layers is rationalized using the Miedema model. The local average compositions through the diffusion reaction layer were determined, and used to construct a semi-quantitative diffusion path on the isothermal Mg-Al-Nd ternary phase diagram at 673 K. The growth constants of the entire diffusion reaction layers were determined as 8.91 (±0.94)×10 -14 m 2 /s, 1.39 (±0.15)×10 -13 m 2 /s and 1.93 (±0.38)×10 -13 m 2 /s at 623 K, 648 K and 673 K, respectively. The activation energy Q for the growth of the entire diffusion reaction layers was 54±4.6 kJ/mol.

The effects of methionine on TCE-induced DNA methylation and mRNA expression changes in mouse liver

        Jiahong Chen,Hang Zhang,Stanley Aniagu,Yan Jiang,Tao Chen,Y. Jiang,T. Chen 대한독성 유전단백체 학회 2017 Molecular & cellular toxicology Vol.13 No.1

Trichloroethylene (TCE) had been shown to induce aberrant DNA methylation changes in mouse liver, which could be critical in the development of hepatocellular carcinoma. To understand the effect of methionine, a methyl donor, on TCE-induced mouse liver cancer, we exposed B6C3F1 mice to TCE in the presence or absence of methionine. We found that supplementation with methionine attenuated the TCE-induced hypo- and hyper-methylation status of Cdkn1a and Ihh in mouse liver, respectively. The TCE-induced mRNA expression changes of Cdkn1a, Ihh and Jun were also alleviated by methionine. However, methionine supplementation accelerated the TCE-induced mRNA over-expression of Mki67, and enhanced the TCE-induced mRNA down-regulation of Dnmt3a and Tet2. In summary, our results showed that methionine could attenuate at least part of the TCE-induced DNA methylation changes, but the additional gene expression changes induced by supplementary of methionine does not support the assumption that methionine could prevent TCE-induced liver carcinogenesis.

Studies of the effects and mechanisms of ginsenoside Re and Rk₃ on myelosuppression induced by cyclophosphamide

        Jiahong Han,Jing Xia,Lianxue Zhang,Enbo Cai,Yan Zhao,Xuan Fei,Xiaohuan Jia,He Yang,Shuangli Liu 고려인삼학회 2019 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.43 No.4

Background: Ginsenoside Re (Re) is one of the major components of Panax ginseng Meyer. Ginsenoside Rk₃ (Rk₃) is a secondary metabolite of Re. The aim of this study was to investigate and compare the effects and underlying mechanisms of Re and Rk₃ on cyclophosphamide-induced myelosuppression. Methods: The mice myelosuppression model was established by intraperitoneal (i.p.) injection of cyclophosphamide. Peripheral blood cells, bone marrow nucleated cells, and colony yield of hematopoietic progenitor cells in vitro were counted. The levels of erythropoietin, thrombopoietin, and granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor in plasma were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Bone marrow cell cycle was performed by flow cytometry. The expression of apoptotic protein bcl-2, bax, and caspase-3 was detected by Western blotting. Results: Both Re and Rk₃ could improve peripheral blood cells, bone marrow nucleated cell counts, thymus index, and spleen index. Furthermore, they could enhance the yield of colonies cultured in vitro and make the levels of granulocyte macrophage colony-stimulating factor, erythropoietin, and thrombopoietin normal, reduce the ratio of G₀/G₁ phase cells, and increase the proliferation index. Finally, Re and Rk₃ could upregulate the expression of bcl-2, whereas they could downregulate the expression of bax and caspase-3. Conclusion: Re and Rk₃ could improve the hematopoietic function of myelosuppressed mice. The effect of Rk₃ was superior to that of Re at any dose. Regulating the levels of cytokines, promoting cells enter the normal cell cycle, regulating the balance of bcl-2/bax, and inhibiting the expression of caspase-3 may be the effects of Re and Rk₃ on myelosuppression.

Hematopoietic function of bone marrow was measured by hemopoietic progenitorcell culture and peripheral blood count, and serum hemopoietic factors were tested by enzymelinkedimmunosorbent assay. Bone marrow cell cycle was performed by flow cytometry. HPLC was usedto measure 20 potential chemical components related to myelosuppression, including ginsenoside Rg1,Re, Rb1, Rc, Rb2, Rb3, Rd, Rk3, Rh4, 20 (S)-Rg3, 20 (R)-Rg3, Rk1, Rg5, salidroside, and so on. Results: G, LLA, and G-LLA improved the amount of peripheral blood cells and bone marrow cellsof myelosuppressed mice (P < 0.01). They significantly increased the colony quantity of colony-formingunitegranulocyte macrophage, burst-forming unit erythroid, colony-forming unit erythroid, and colony-forming unit megakaryocyte and amount of G2/M and S phase cells (P < 0.01). They also significantlydecreased the amount of hematopoiesis-related cytokines (P < 0.01). The content of chemicalcomponents in G-LLA changed, and the change of rare saponin was the most obvious. Conclusion: These results show that G-LLA herb pair might produce synergistic or complementarycompatibility effects on bone marrow suppression after chemotherapy. It suggests that the substancebasis of G-LLA for treating bone marrow suppression may be effective chemical components.
