During the past decade, we have entered an era of biologics for the treatment of Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. The therapeutic goal of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) management has evolved from symptom control and clinical remission to mucosal healing or even deep remission. Histological remission for ulcerative colitis and transmural healing of Crohn’s disease are potential future goals. With the adoption of the treat-to-target concept, and given the need for tight control of IBD activity, therapeutic drug monitoring (TDM) is an important element of precision medicine. TDM involves the measurement of serum biologics and anti-drug antibodies levels, to confirm whether the right drug with the right dosage was prescribed to reach the right serum levels. TDM may help clinicians adjust biologics based on objective biomarkers instead of using empirical dosage escalation or making symptom-based therapeutic adjustments. Wellestablished reactive TDM algorithms have been proposed, and emerging evidence supports the clinical application of a proactive TDM strategy to enhance the duration of effective biologics and improve clinical outcomes. Recently, the proactive TDM strategy was shown to avoid the secondary loss of response to biologics, and improve long-term clinical outcomes in IBD patients. This review summarizes data from trials, and practice guidelines, on the clinical application of proactive and reactive TDM strategies for the daily care of biologic-treated IBD patients.
Dynamic analysis of a beam subjected to an eccentric rolling disk
Wu, Jia-Jang Techno-Press 2013 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.47 No.4
This paper presents a theory concerning the beam element subjected to an eccentric rolling disk (or simply called the eccentric-disk-loaded beam element) such that the dynamic responses of a beam subjected to an eccentric rolling disk with its inertia force, Coriolis force and centrifugal force considered can be easily determined. To this end, the property matrices of an eccentric-disk-loaded beam element are firstly derived by means of the Lagrange's equations. Then, the overall property matrices of the entire vibrating system are determined by directly adding the property matrices of the eccentric-disk-loaded beam element to the overall ones of the entire beam itself. Finally, the Newmark direct integration method is used to solve the equations of motion for the dynamic responses of a beam subjected to an eccentric rolling disk. Some factors relating to the title problem, such as the eccentricity, radius and rotating speed of the rolling disk, and the Coriolis force and centrifugal force induced by the rolling disk are investigated. Numerical results reveal that the influence of last factors on the dynamic responses of the pinned-pinned beam is significant except the centrifugal force.
Wind tunnel investigation on wind characteristics of flat and mountainous terrain
Jia-Wu Li,Jun Wang,Shucheng Yang,Feng Wang,Guohui Zhao 한국풍공학회 2022 Wind and Structures, An International Journal (WAS Vol.35 No.4
Wind tunnel test is often adopted to assess the site-specific wind characteristics for the design of bridges as suggested by current design standards. To investigate the wind characteristics of flat and mountainous terrain, two topographic models are tested in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The wind characteristics, including the vertical and horizontal mean wind speed distributions, the turbulence intensity, and the wind power spectra, are presented. They are investigated intensively in present study with the discussions on the effect of wind direction and the effect of topography. It is indicated that for flat terrain, the wind direction has negligible effect on the wind characteristics, however, the assumption of a homogenous wind field for the mountainous terrain is not applicable. Further, the non-homogeneous wind field can be defined based on a proposed approach if the wind tunnel test or on-site measurement is performed. The calculated turbulence intensities and wind power spectra by using the measured wind speeds are also given. It is shown that for the mountainous terrain, engineers should take into account the variability of the wind characteristics for design considerations
Optimal Objects of Cooperation Selection for Human Activity in Opportunistic Networks
Jia Wu,Zhi-gang Chen,Xi Yi 한국산학기술학회 2014 SmartCR Vol.4 No.2
Randomness and disconnections during transmission in opportunistic networking have some characteristics similar to human activity. Many traditional methods in opportunistic networks, however, have never achieved effective results when applied to human activity. Consequently, this paper establishes and analyzes a structure tree and then, based on count dependability and usability in personal relationships, an optimized cooperation path is selected. Furthermore, the paper presents a new algorithm?the Optimal Cooperation Path Algorithm ?for opportunistic networks. This algorithm solves the problem of how to choose an appropriate path for human activity in opportunistic networks. When tested during simulations, this algorithm achieved good results.

The reports regarding the free vibration analysis of uniform beams carrying single or multiple spring-mass systems are plenty, however, among which, those with inertia effect of the helical spring(s) considered are limited. In this paper, by taking the mass of the helical spring into consideration, the stiffness and mass matrices of a spring-mass system and an equivalent mass that may be used to replace the effect of a spring-mass system are derived. By means of the last element stiffness and mass matrices, the natural frequencies and mode shapes for a uniform cantilever beam carrying any number of springmass systems (or loaded beam) are determined using the conventional finite element method (FEM). Similarly, by means of the last equivalent mass, the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the same loaded beam are also determined using the presented equivalent mass method (EMM), where the cantilever beam elastically mounted by a number of lumped masses is replaced by the same beam rigidly attached by the same number of equivalent masses. Good agreement between the numerical results of FEM and those of EMM and/or those of the existing literature confirms the reliability of the presented approaches.

A novel islanding detection method is proposed in this paper. It is based on a frequency drooping PLL, which was presented in a previous work. The cause of errors in the non-detection zone (NDZ) of conventional frequency disturbance islanding detection methods (IDM) is analyzed. A frequency drooping phase-locked-loop (FD-PLL) is introduced into a single-phase grid-connected inverter (SPGCI), which can guarantee that grid current is in phase with the grid voltage. A novel FD-PLL IDM is proposed by improving this PLL. In order to verify the performance of the proposed FD-PLL IDM, a full performance comparison between the proposed IDM and typical existing active frequency drift IDMs is carried out, which includes both dynamic performance and steady performance. With the same NDZ, the total harmonic distortion of the grid-current in the dynamic process and steady state is analyzed. The proposed FD-PLL IDM, regardless of the dynamic or steady process, has the best power quality. Experimental and simulation results verify that the proposed FD-PLL IDM has excellent performance.
On a class of complete non-compact gradient Yamabe solitons
Jia-Yong Wu 대한수학회 2018 대한수학회보 Vol.55 No.3
We derive lower bounds of the scalar curvature on complete non-compact gradient Yamabe solitons under some integral curvature conditions. Based on this, we prove that potential functions of Yamabe solitons have at most quadratic growth for distance function. We also obtain a finite topological type property on complete shrinking gradient Yamabe solitons under suitable scalar curvature assumptions.
