<P>This paper proposes a pulse width modulation plus phase-shift (PPS) control for nonisolated high gain soft-switching bidirectional dc–dc converter (HSBDC). The phase-shift angle is used to control the direction and amount of power flow of the bidirectional dc–dc converter, while the duty cycle is used to balance the voltage between two high voltage side (HVS) capacitors. The HSBDC with PPS control has the advantages of simple control structure and symmetrical switching patterns, ensured soft-switching in both forward and backward modes at all load under wide voltage range, and reduced voltage ratings of the HVS capacitors and switches. The operation principle of the HSBDC with PPS control is analyzed in detail. Based on the analysis the passive component is designed to achieve higher efficiency. A 3-kW prototype is implemented and tested to verify the validity of the proposed method.</P>

<P>This study is based on the theory of reasoned action and self-efficacy, and it examines the mediating role of attitude, subjective norm, and self-efficacy between parasocial interaction and the intention to donate organs. Judgment sampling was used and 329 respondents were participated in the survey. Participants consisted of 102 males (30.9%) and 227 females (69.1%), and their ages ranged from 13 to 77 years. The Cronbach’s α for each scale was .81 for parasocial interaction scale (<I>M</I> = 3.01, SD = 0.55), .89 for attitude scale (<I>M</I> = 4.28, SD = 0.55), .89 for subjective norm (<I>M</I> = 4.28, SD = 0.55), and .76 for self-efficacy (<I>M</I> = 3.31, SD = 0.89). The level of parasocial interaction was found to be significantly associated with attitude and subjective norms that predicted intention to register as organ donors. Although the mediating effect of self-efficacy between parasocial interaction and intention has been proven, self-efficacy showed a conflicting result in the process of model testing in that the level of parasocial interaction affected the degree of subjective norms, which in turn influenced intention by enhancing self-efficacy. The results indicate that parasocial interaction has an indirect effect on intention to register as organ donors through attitude and subjective norms. It is expected that this finding contributes to developing a number of strategies to encourage people’s intention to register as organ donors.</P>
Near-wall rising behaviour of a deformable bubble at high Reynolds number

<P>The dynamics of a large deformable bubble ($\mathit{Re}\sim \mathit{O}(10^{3})$) rising near a vertical wall in quiescent water is experimentally investigated. The reference (without the wall) rising path of the considered bubble is a two-dimensional zigzag. For a range of wall configurations (i.e. initial wall distance and boundary condition), using high-speed shadowgraphy, various rising behaviours such as periodic bouncing, sliding, migrating away, and non-periodic oscillation without collisions are measured and analysed. Unlike low-Reynolds- and Weber-number bubbles, the contribution of the surface deformation to the transport between the energy components becomes significant during the bubble’s rise. In particular, across the bubble–wall collision, the excess surface energy compensates the deficit of kinetic energy. This enables a large deformable bubble to maintain a relatively constant bouncing kinematics, despite the obvious wall-induced energy dissipation. The wall effect, predominantly appearing as energy loss, is found to decrease as the initial distance from the bubble centre to the wall increases. Compared to the regular (no-slip) wall, a hydrophobic surface enhances or reduces the wall effect depending on the wall distance, whereas a porous surface reduces the energy loss due to the wall, regardless of the initial distance from the wall. Furthermore, the bubble–wall collision behaviour is assessed in terms of a restitution coefficient and modified impact Stokes number (ratio of the inertia to viscous forces), which shows a good correlation, the trends of which agree well with the variations in the energy components. The dependence of near-wall bubble motion on the wall distance and boundary condition may suggest a way of predicting or controlling the near-wall gas void-fraction distribution in gas–liquid flow systems.</P>

Yuzu (Citrus junos Sieb. Ex Tanaka) is one of the most important Citrus species in China, Japan, and Korea. Yuzu is assumed to be a natural hybrid. However, concrete evidence supporting its hybrid origin has not been reported yet. To identi-fy putative maternal species, the nucleotide sequences of five hypervariable regions covering 17,531 bp in citrus chloroplast genomes were obtained from yuzu. A phylogenetic tree based on these sequences showed that yuzu was most clo-sely related to Ichang papeda (C. cavaleriei), suggesting that Ichang papeda might be a seed parent of yuzu. To identify paternal species, yuzu homologs of 103 single-copy genes found among citrus genomes were identified from a yuzu tra-nscriptome that was de novo assembled using RNA-seq reads. Eighty homologous genes were identified from the yuzu transcriptome. A phylogenetic tree based on nucleotide sequence variations in 80 single-copy genes of yuzu and other C-itrus species showed that yuzu was most closely related to mandarin. To assess hybrid origins of 80 single-copy genes, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) among yuzu, Ichang papeda, mandarin, citron, and pummelo were analyzed, and yuzu SNP genotypes were identified by visual investigation of alignments of RNA-seq reads. Forty-three out of 80 genes were assumed to originate from hybrids between Ichang papeda and mandarin. Taken together, results of this study indicate that Ichang papeda and mandarin might be the parental species of yuzu.
