you tube는 공급자와 수용자 간의 소통구조가 가능하도록 진화되어 그에 대한 느낌과 감정을 표명할 수 있게 되어, 이제는 전 세계인 들이 공유하는 문화의 중요한 한 부분으로 자리 잡게 되었다. 외국인들에 의해 제작된 동영상에는 ‘한국인들만 모르는 한국인들의 면모’가 많이 강조되어 있다. 이에 우리가 몰랐던 한국인의 심성에 관한 연원을 확인해 보고자 본 글을 작성하게 되었다. 이 동영상들은 그들이 현장에서 실제로 겪은 사례를 보고한 것이기 때문에 사실에 가까운 의미를 담고 있다. 이들 동영상에서 외국인들은 “정말로 이런 나라가 존재할 수 있는가?”라고 감탄하고 있으며, 어떤 이는 ‘한국생활이 즐겁다’고 했고, ‘한국인들의 모든 것을 분석하고 연구해서 적용한다면 세계의 범죄율이 무조건 떨어질 것’이라는 정책적 대안을 제시하는 이도 있었다. 중국 역사서에 동이는 군자들의 나라(君子之國)로 여겼다. 중국의 역사서에는 “대문을 닫고 사는 집이 없었으며 아무도 도둑질을 하지 않았고, 성품이 공손하며 성실하고 욕심이 적으며 염치를 알았다.”고 했다. 많은 사람들이 한국문화를 유교문화라고 말한다. 그러나 유교는 한국의 긴 역사에서 통치원리로서 받아들여졌을 뿐 일반국민들의 의식을 지배한 사상은 토속종교와 결합한 불교였다. 조선왕조는 유교적 사회질서를 정착시키려 노력했음에도 대략 200 여 년이 걸려서야 겨우 뿌리내릴 수 있었다. 심지어 유교는 정착되는 과정에 불교와 공존하기도 했으며, 토속적인 민간신앙 조직과 결합하기도 했다. 조선왕조 중후기에 널리 보급된 권선서들은 민간신앙과 결합된 유교윤리의 실천과 중요성을 생활 속에 심어주었다. 이는 무교가 지니는 윤리성이 유교윤리와 결합된 것이라고 볼 수 있다. 오늘날에도 무속인들의 수많은 상담사례에서 보듯이 무교의 무속행위는 사회윤리의 실천성을 잘 보여주고 있다. 한국인들의 선한 심성구조는 오로지 유교에 의해 형성된 것이 아니고 긴 세월동안 유교·불교·도교와 섞여 정제되어 형성된 것이며 그 바탕에는 여전히 무교의 사회윤리가 작동하고 있다. China’s history book said, “There were no houses that lived with doors closed, no one stole, and people were polite, sincere, less greedy, and shameless.” Many people refer to Korean culture as Confucian culture. Confucianism, however, was accepted as a governing principle in Korea’s long history, and the idea that dominated the general public’s consciousness was Buddhism combined with native religion. Although the Joseon Dynasty tried to establish a Confucian social order, it took about 200 years to take root. Confucianism even coexisted with Buddhism in the process of settling down, and combined with a native folk belief organization. Books recommending good deeds, which were widely distributed during the mid- to late Joseon Dynasty, instilled the practice and importance of Confucian ethics combined with folk beliefs in life. This can be seen as a combination of the ethics of shamanism and Confucian ethics. As seen in many cases of counseling by shamanists today, shamanism shows the practicality of social ethics.
