Study on Thermal Treatment of Hybrid Technical Yarns

Ishtiaque, S.M.,Das, A. The Korean Fiber Society 2004 Fibers and polymers Vol.5 No.1

The present paper reports the impact of thermal treatment on the characteristics of core-sheath type hybrid technical yarns. The core-sheath type hybrid yams are prepared using DREF-III technology. Polyester and glass multifilaments are used as core components whereas the cotton and polyester staple fibers are the sheath components wrapped around the core filament with different proportions to form a hybrid structure. The thermal treatment is carried out both in dry and in wet state under relaxed condition and the thermal shrinkage, sheath-slipping resistance and tensile and bending properties of hybrid yarns have been studied. Thermal treatment markedly increases the thermal shrinkage and sheath-slipping resistance of hybrid yarns with polyester multifilament in core, but insignificant effect for yarns with glass multifilament in core. Breaking elongation of hybrid yams with polyester multifilament in core increases with treatment temperature. The hybrid yarns with glass multifilament in core are least affected by thermal treatment.

ENTANGLED DEVOTIONAL COMMITMENTS: READING THE BURDAH IN EGYPT, SOUTH AFRICA, AND INDONESIA

Sahar Ishtiaque Ullah 한국외국어대학교 아프리카연구소 2020 Asian Journal of African Studies Vol.- No.48

Certain poems and stories are buried as cultural artifacts; others never die; and still others are revived from death. The thirteenth century Qaṣīdat al-Burdah, composed by Muḥammad ibn Sa’īd al-Būṣīrī (d. 693/1294), is a love poem dedicated to the Prophet Muhammad. The exemplary Arabic-Islamic work has seen renewed popularity among Muslim communities in the last two decades, from its origins in Egypt to Indonesia to locations where Muslims are a religious minority, and hundreds of youtube recordings with millions of views that demonstrate this. The poem has been dramatically staged, academically researched, and devotionally recited. In this article, I analyze the entangled devotional commitments to the Qaṣīdat al-Burdah as demonstrated by its modern iterations in Egypt, Indonesia, and South Africa and consider what we can learn about the role of audience and community in creating meaning.

Effect of Fiber Friction, Yarn Twist, and Splicing Air Pressure on Yarn Splicing Performance

        Das A.,Ishtiaque S. M.,Parida Jyoti R. The Korean Fiber Society 2005 Fibers and polymers Vol.6 No.1

The impact of fiber friction, yarn twist, and splicing air pressure on mechanical and structural properties of spliced portion have been reported in the present paper. The mechanical properties include the tensile and bending related properties and, in the structural properties, the diameter and packing density of the splices are studied. A three variable three level factorial design approach proposed by Box and Behnken has been used to design the experiment. The results indicate that there is a strong correlation between retained spliced strength (RSS) and retained splice elongation (RSE) with all the experimental variables. It has been observed that RSS increases with the increase in splice air pressure and after certain level it drops, whereas it consistently increases with the increase in yarn twist. The RSE increases with the increase in both fiber friction and yarn twist. It has also been observed that the yarn twist and splicing air pressure have significant influence on splice diameter, percent increase in diameter and retained packing coefficient, but the fiber friction has negligible influence on these parameters. Yarn twist and splicing air pressure has a strong correlation with splice flexural rigidity, where as poor correlation with retained flexural rigidity.

Effect of Opening Roller Speed, Drums Speed Difference and Suction Air Pressure on Properties of Open-End Friction Spun Polyester and Acrylic Yarns

        Vishnoi Prashant,Ishtiaque S. M.,Das A. The Korean Fiber Society 2005 Fibers and polymers Vol.6 No.3

The present paper is concerned with the influence of opening roller speed, drum speed difference and suction air pressure on properties of polyester and acrylic open-end friction spun yams. The results shows that the opening roller speed and the suction air pressure have considerable influence on the characteristics of polyester and acrylic open-end friction spun yams. In case of polyester yams the unevenness, imperfection and hairiness decreases and the yam tenacity increases with the increase in opening roller speed and suction air pressure. However for acrylic yams the unevenness and imperfections decreases and tenacity increases with the increase in opening roller speed and suction air pressure.

Study on Splicing Performance of Different Types of Staple Yarns

        Das, A.,Ishtiaque, S.M.,Nagaraju, V. The Korean Fiber Society 2004 Fibers and polymers Vol.5 No.3

The present paper reports the detailed study on the splicing behavior of viscose staple fiber yarns made from ring, rotor, friction and air-jet spinning technologies. The linear density of all the yearns was kept constant at 29.5 tex. The splicing parameters like splicing pressure and duration of the splicing were taken as variables. Three levels of splicing pressure at constant splicing duration and three levels of splicing durations at constant splicing pressure were considered. Splices were introduced at all these levels for the four different technologies. These splices were tested for their tensile properties and the properties of splices were evaluated in terms of retained splice strength (RSS) and splice break ratio (SBR). The splice photographs were taken and splices were analyzed for their structure and for diameter profile along the length of the splice.

Influence of Punching Parameters on Fibre Orientation and Related Physical and Mechanical Properties of Needle Punched Nonwoven

        Rupayan Roy,S. M. Ishtiaque 한국섬유공학회 2019 Fibers and polymers Vol.20 No.1

In this research work, the authors have investigated the needling effect on a non-woven prepared form the webs of equal basis weight. Punch density, needle penetration depth and strokes per minute are taken as variables. Initially, it was observed that the punching parameters were influencing the fibre orientation to a great extent. Subsequently, other properties were taken into study. It was found that higher punch density and penetration depth spreading the web in its cross direction, as a result, the basis weight and thickness reducing in a great extent and other properties like basis weight, tensile strength got affected. Secondly, with the change of stroke frequency, the width of the web, as well as nonwoven, also changed due to the spreading towards the cross direction. It was found that when strokes per min increased, the basis weight thickness decreased as well as other properties got affected.

Optimal Design of a Filter Media by Tuning the Structure of Needle Punched Nonwoven: Influence of Carding Parameters

        Rupayan Roy,S. M. Ishtiaque 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.9

This research work investigated the influence of carding parameters on different properties. In this study anattempt has been made to change the fibre orientation by changing the carding parameters such as feeder speed, cylinderspeed and doffer speed keeping the same areal density of fabrics. In a combination of three different levels of feeder, cylinderand doffer speeds were also considered for sampling plan to create a three-factors three-levels Box-Benkhen Design for abetter explanation of results. The fibre orientation was measured by using both direct (image analysis) and indirect (lindslay’scutting and combing) method. The properties such as bursting strength, filtration efficiency and pressure drop were evaluated. The properties were analyzed and explained in the light of fibre orientation. It was found that the considered cardingparameters influenced the fibre orientation to a great extent and the properties are influenced by the fibre orientation. In theend, an overall optimization has been done to achieve maximum filtration efficiency with minimum pressure drop andmoderate busting strength.

Synthesis, surface active and thermal properties of novel imidazolium cationic monomeric surfactants

Pankaj Patial,Arifa Shaheen,Ishtiaque Ahmad 한국공업화학회 2014 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.20 No.6

A series of long chain water soluble cationics have been synthesized by using renewable raw materialslike fatty alcohols and epichlorohydrin. The surface activity of the molecules has been determined bymeasurement of their conductance and surface tension in aqueous solution. The dynamics of surfaceactivity of these surfactants have also been investigated in the presence of sodium halides, NaCl and NaBrby surface tension measurement. A series of useful parameters like critical micelle concentration (cmc),surface tension at the cmc (gcmc), adsorption efficiency (pC20), effectiveness of surface tension reduction(Pcmc), Gibbs free energy of the micellization (DG0 mic) and Gibbs free energy of adsorption (DG0 ads)have been determined from the measurements obtained by surface tension and conductivity method. Further with the application of the Gibbs adsorption isotherm, maximum surface excess concentration(umax) and minimum surface area/molecule (Amin) at the air–water interface were also estimated. Thermal stability of these long chain cationics has been measured by thermal gravimetric analysis undernitrogen atmosphere. Analysis of thermal stability measurement indicated that the thermal stability ofthese long chain imidazoliums increase with an increase in chain length
