        Implementation of Space Vector Two-Arm Modulation for Independent Motor Control Drive Fed by a Five-Leg Inverter

        This paper presents the implementation of two-arm modulation (TAM) technique for the independent control of a two-induction motor drive fed by a five-leg inverter (FLI). A carrier-based space vector pulse width modulation technique for TAM is proposed to generate switching signals for FLI. Two independent three-phase space vector modulators are utilized to control two motors. The motor drive system applies two separate indirect field-oriented control methods. The stationary voltage outputs from the vector control are synthesized in the three-phase space vector modulator to generate switching signals for FLI. The performance of the independent control of the motors and the voltage utilization factor are likewise analyzed. Simulation and experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed method for the independent control of the two-motor drive system. The proposed technique is successfully validated by dSPACE DS1103 experimental work.

        Characteristic of Induction Motor Drives Fed by Three Leg and Five Leg Inverters

        This paper aims to compare the performance of three phase induction motor drives using Five Leg Inverter (FLI) and Three Leg Inverter (TLI) configurations. An Indirect Field Oriented Control (IFOC) method using a TLI is well established and incorporated for high performance speed drives in various industries. The FLI dual motor drive system on the other hand shows good workability in the independent control of two induction motor drives simultaneously. In this experiment, the IFOC method is utilized for both drive systems, and Space Vector Pulse Width Modulation (SVPWM) is used to generate pulses for both inverters. For the FLI, the Double Zero Sequence (DZS) Injection technique is used to generate the modulation signal. The complete experiment setup is done by using a DSpace 1103 controller board. The individual motor performances are analyzed using similar schemes, equipment setups and controller parameter values. The results show similar speed performance response capability between the single motor operation using a TLI system and the two motor operation using a FLI system based on the variable speed range either in forward or reverse operation. They also show similar load rejection abilities. However, the single motor with a TLI has a better power quality aspect such as ripple current and total harmonics distortion (THD).

        Three-Phase Reference Current Generator Employing with Kalman Filter for Shunt Active Power Filter

        This paper presents a new technique of reference current generator based on Kalman filter (KF) estimator for three-phase shunt active power filter (APF). The stationary reference frame (d-q algorithm) is used to transform the load currents into DC component. The harmonics of load currents are extracted and the three-phase reference currents are generated using KF estimator. The work is simulated using Matlab/Simulink platform. To validate the simulation results, an experimental test-rig have been perform using real-time control dSPACE DS1104. In addition, hysteresis current control was used to generate the switching signal for the correction of the harmonics in the system. The nonlinear load were constructed with three-phase rectifier which connected in series with inductor and parallel with resistor and capacitor. The results shows that the new technique of shunt APF embedded with KF is proven to eliminate the harmonics created by the non-linear load with some improvement on the total harmonics distortion (THD).

        Physical, electrochemical and supercapacitive properties of activated carbon pellets from pre-carbonized rubber wood sawdust by CO2 activation

        The physical and electrochemical properties of the activated carbon pellet electrodes have been investigated. Activated carbon pellets were prepared from single step carbonization process of pre-carbonized rubber wood sawdust at a temperature of 800 ℃ that followed with a CO2 activation process at temperature in the range of 700–1000 ℃. The BET characterization on the sample found that the surface area of the carbon pellet increased with the increasing of the activation temperature. The optimum value was as high as 683.63 ㎡ g-1. The electrical conductivity was also found to increase linearly with the increasing of the activation temperature, namely from 0.0075 S cm-1 to 0.0687 S cm-1 for the activation temperature in the range of 700–1000 ℃. The cyclic voltammetry characterization of the samples in aqueous solution of 1 M H2SO4 also found that the specific capacitance increased with the increasing of the activation temperature. Typical optimum value was shown by the sample activated at 900 ℃ with the specific capacitance was as high as 33.74 Fg-1 (scan rate 1 mV s-1). The retained ratio was as high as 32.72%. The activated carbon pellet prepared from the rubber wood sawdust may found used in supercapacitor applications.

        Effect of surface roughness of TiO2 films on short-circuitcurrent density of photoelectrochemical cellof ITO/TiO2/PVC-LiClO4/graphite

        This paper reports the eect of surface topography of titanium dioxide lms on short-circuit current density of photoelectro-chemical solar cell of ITO/TiO2/PVC-LiCLO4/graphite. The lms were deposited onto ITO-covered glass substrate by screen-print-ing technique. The lms were tempered at 300.C, 350.C, 400.C, 450.C and 500 .C for 30min to burn out the organic parts and toachieve the lms with porous structure. The surface roughness of the lms were studied using scanning electron microscope (SEM).Currentvoltage relationship of the devices were characterized in dark at room temperature and under illumination of 100mWcm. 2light from tungsten halogen lamp at 50.C. The device utilising the TiO2 lm annealed at 400.C produces the highest short-circuitcurrent density and open-circuit voltage as it posses the smoothest surface topography with the electrolyte. The short-circuit currentdensity and open-circuit voltage of the devices increase with the decreasing grain size of the TiO2 lms. The short-circuit currentdensity and open-circuit voltage are 0.6l A/cm2 and 109mV respectively..
