Development of a Hybrid Expert System-multi Criteria Analysis on Erosion and Sediment Control in Construction Industry

Ibrahiem Abdul Razak Al-Ani,Wan Hanna Melini Wan Mohtar,Noor Ezlin Ahmad Basri,Lariyah Mohd Sidek 대한토목학회 2016 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.20 No.7

Construction activities combined with heavy rainfall can results in severe soil loss which eventually will be deposited into the adjacent water bodies via stormwater. The Best Management Practices (BMPs) adopted to minimise the erosion and sedimentation during construction activities are usually determined by standard guidelines and expert engineers. However, when the expertise and data are limited, knowledge-based systems have been proved as an effective alternative in making decision. A new algorithm of hybrid knowledge-based expert system and Multi-Criteria Analysis (MCA) was developed to minimise erosion and sedimentation due to stormwater in Malaysian construction sites. In this Eco-Friendly Erosion and Sediment Control (ECO-ESC) system, decision tables were developed based on the knowledge acquired from the domain experts specialised in erosion and sedimentation control and guidelines. The MCA was used to identify the best stormwater control measures based on the specific criteria and criterion’s weight. The ECO-ESC was validated in three stages: preliminary by the experts, field and statistical validations. Results of comparison have shown high correlation for recommended BMPs, sediment yield, and the water quality monitoring and proved that the ECO-ESC performs as good as the human expert in solving different problems related to the erosion and sediment control.

        Castleman disease

        Ibrahiem Saeed-Abdul-Rahman,Ali M. Al-Amri 대한혈액학회 2012 Blood Research Vol.47 No.3

Castleman and Towne described a disease presenting as a mediastinal mass resembling thymoma. It is also known as “giant lymph node hyperplasia”, “lymph node hamartoma”, “angiofollicular mediastinal lymph node hyperplasia”, and “angiomatous lymphoid hyperplasia”. The pathogenesis is unknown, but the bulk of evidence points toward faulty immune regulation, resulting in excessive B-lymphocyte and plasma-cell proliferation in lymphatic tissue. In addition to the mediastinal presentation, extrathoracic involvement in the neck, axilla, mesentery, pelvis, pancreas, adrenal gland, and retroperitoneum also have been described. There are 2 major pathologic variations of Castleman disease: (1) hyaline-vascular variant, the most frequent, characterized by small hyaline-vascular follicles and capillary proliferation; and (2) the plasma-cell variant, in which large lymphoid follicles are separated by sheets of plasma cells. The hyaline-vascular cases usually are largely asymptomatic, whereas the less common plasma-cell variant may present with fever, anemia, weight loss, and night sweats, along with polyclonal hypergamma-globulinemia. Castleman disease is a rare lymphoproliferative disorders. Few cases have been described world widely. In this article we reviewed the classification, pathogenesis, pathology, radiological features and up to date treatment with special emphasis on the role of viral stimulation, recent therapeutic modalities and the HIV-associated disease.

      • Micro-propagation Factors Essential for Mass Production of Synthetic Seeds in Banana

        Hassanein A. M.,Ibrahiem I. A.,Galal A. A.,Salem J. M. M. The Korean Society of Plant Biotechnology 2005 Plant molecular biology and biotechnology research Vol.7 No.3

This work described some essential factors necessary for micro-propagation of banana for mass production of synthetic seeds for germ plasm conservation, and how peroxides activity of conserved tissue was influenced. Shoot tips of field grown plants were used to obtain shoot clusters on shoot proliferation medium (MS medium supplemented with 5 mg/l BAP). Using longitudinally-split shoot tip technique, 18720, 8640, 7488, 2016 plantlets were obtained from one shoot tip of Maghraby, Grand Naine, Balady, and Williams, respectively, in six subculture, one month each, on solid medium. Shoot tips excised from in vitro grown plantlets were encapsulated in calcium-alginate beads and stored at $4^{\circ}C$ for one month on half-strength MS basal medium without growth regulators or sugars. After one month all the viable-conserved synseeds formed shoots when they were transferred to MS basal medium, some of them showed synchronous formation of shoot and root systems in one week. Plants retrieved from encapsulated shoot tips were hardened off and transferred to soil.

Carbamazepine conquers spinal GAP43 deficiency and sciatic Nav1.5 upregulation in diabetic mice: novel mechanisms in alleviating allodynia and hyperalgesia

        Nagla A. El‑Sherbeeny,Afaf T. Ibrahiem,Howaida S. Ali,Noha E. Farag,Eman A. Toraih,Sawsan A. Zaitone 대한약학회 2020 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.43 No.7

This work tested the role of carbamazepine inalleviating alloxan-induced diabetic neuropathy and theenhancement of spinal plasticity. Mice were randomizedinto four groups: normal, control, carbamazepine (25-mg/kg) and carbamazepine (50-mg/kg). Nine weeks after inductionof diabetes, symptoms of neuropathy were confirmedand carbamazepine (or vehicle) was given every other dayfor five weeks. After completing the treatment period, micewere sacrificed and the pathologic features in the spinal cordand the sciatic nerves were determined. The spinal cordswere evaluated for synaptic plasticity (growth associated protein-43, GAP43), microglia cell expression (by CD11b)and astrocyte expression (glial fibrillary acidic protein,GFAP). Further, sciatic nerve expression of Nav1.5 wasmeasured. Results revealed that carbamazepine 50 mg/kgprolonged the withdrawal threshold of von-Frey filamentsand increased the hot plate jumping time. Carbamazepineimproved the histopathologic pictures of the sciatic nervesand spinal cords. Spinal cord of carbamazepine-treatedgroups had enhanced expression of GAP43 but lower contentof CD11b and GFAP. Furthermore, specimens from thesciatic nerve indicated low expression of Nav1.5. In conclusion, this work provided evidence, for the first time, that thepreventive effect of carbamazepine against diabetic neuropathyinvolves correction of spinal neuronal plasticity and gliacell expression.

Antipseudomonal Activity and Nephrotoxicity of Cephradine-Netilmicin Combination

El Emam, M.A.,El Naggar, W.A.,Ibrahiem, T.M. The Pharmaceutical Society of Korea 1989 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.12 No.2

The effects of intraperitoneal injection of cephradine in a dose of 75 mg/kg and netilmicin in dose of 50 mg/kg and their combination on creatinine and urea serum levels of rabbits were studied as well as the antipseudomonal activity against three multiresistant clinicial isolates. The antibacterial activity was investigated by two methods: Checkerboard titration method and time-kill studies. Finally, the antibacterial activity of the sera obtained from the rabbits receiving the used drugs in the previous regimen was studied using time-kill study method against Pseudomonas aeruginosa isolates. Results obtained from this study indicated that both creatinine and urea serum levels of the rabbits receiving both drugs were not significantly different from those of the rabbits receiving either cephradine or netilmicin alone. At the same time the in vitro antibactrial activity (either of the prepared solutions of the used drugs and their combination or of the sera obtained from the rabbits receiving these drugs as mentioned before) showed a synergistic effect against the tested strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa
