Morphology and crystallinity control of carbon nanowalls were investigated in this study. Precise measurements and controls of radicals and ions in the plasma make the controlled syntheses of carbon nanowalls (CNWs) possible. For example, with increasing the O₂ partial pressure adding to the growth ambient, the CNWs densities decrease, and their crystallinity increases. On the other hand, the density of Pt nanoparticles supported on the CNWs by scCO2 can be developed by control of CNW’s crystallinity. These results obtained in this study suggest that the CNWs are promising as new functional device materials in various applications.
Study of Ge Surface Passivation using Radical Nitridation Technique for Ge Channel MOS Transistors

We have investigated the germanium (Ge) surface passivation using radical nitridation technique for future Ge channel metal-oxide-semiconductor field effect transistors (MOSFETs). Stoichiometric Ge-nitride (Ge₃N₄) is formed at a nitride temperature ranging from 50 to 510℃, and the thickness of Ge3N4 tend to saturate with the nitridation time. The minimum value of the leakage current density of Au/Ge₃N₄/Ge metal-insulator-semiconductor (MIS) capacitors is realized at a nitridation temperature of 300℃. In the Pr-oxide/Ge₃N₄/Ge MOS capacitor, the degradation of electrical properties with annealing is effectively suppressed by the introduction of the Ge₃N₄ passivation layer, and we can achieve the small interface state density as low as 4×10¹¹ eV?¹㎝?².

At the Kyoto University Research Reactor Institute (KURRI), a clinical study of boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) using a neutron irradiation facility installed at the research nuclear reactor has been regularly performed since February 1990. As of November 2014, 510 clinical irradiations were carried out using the reactor-based system. The world’s first accelerator-based neutron irradiation system for BNCT clinical irradiation was completed at this institute in early 2009, and the clinical trial using this system was started in 2012. A shift of BCNT from special particle therapy to a general one is now in progress. To promote and support this shift, improvements to the irradiation system, as well as its preparation, and improvements in the physical engineering and the medical physics processes, such as dosimetry systems and quality assurance programs, must be considered. The recent advances in BNCT at KURRI are reported here with a focus on physical engineering and medical physics topics.
Multifunctionality in Ceramic/Metal Nanocomposites
Sekino, Tohru,Kondo, Hiroki,Niihara, Koichi The Korean Powder Metallurgy Institute 2001 한국분말재료학회지 (KPMI) Vol.8 No.3
Several fabrication processes, corresponding nanostructural features and multifunctionality as well has been investigated for oxide ceramic based nanocomposites with metal nanodispersion (i.e., ceramic/metal nanocomposites). Transition metal (Ni, Co, etc) dispersed alumina and zirconia based nanocomposites have been synthesized by reducing and hot-press sintering of ceramic and metal oxide mixtures prepared by several method. Improved fracture strength (1.1 and 1.9 GPa for $Al_2O_3/Ni$ and $ZrO_2/Ni$ nanocomposites, respectively) of these composites have been achieved according to their nanostructures. In addition, ferromagnetic characteristic has been kept. The variation of magnetization with an applied stress has found to be more sensitive as smaller as the magnetic metal dispersion is. This result thus suggests the possibility of fracture and/or stress sensing of the composites by simple magnetic measurement.
Comparison of Web Accessibility within Japanese Educational Institution Websites
Hidehiko Okada,Hiroki Arakawa,Toshiyuki Kondo 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8
The authors investigate how well current Japanese educational institution websites conform to Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) X 8341-3 in which design guidelines for web accessibility are described. Conformance checking results by an automated tool are compared among 4 educational institution categories: universities, high schools, junior high schools and elementary schools. It is found that i) university site top pages include problems themost but are relatively the best in the conformance to JIS 5.4ab guidelines in terms of #problems/#<img>s ratio, and ii) site designers should pay more attention to some specific guidelines because those guidelines are less conformed to intheir top pages of each school category.
