Lack of coaches is often identified as an issue when discussing management of school-based extracurricular sports activities. Collegiate athletes can serve as a resource, becoming external coaches. The purpose of the present study was to examine the characteristics of collegiate athletes who have motivation and feasibility to become external coaches. An Internet-based cross-sectional survey was conducted of 300 collegiate athletes (148 female, 152 male) who participated in collegiate athletic clubs. Logistic regression analyses were conducted to clarify the proportional differences of collegiate athletes who have motivation and feasibility to become external coaches, based on their characteristics. Results showed that collegiate athletes who have more experience in the sport, who are regular players in lower grades, and who have willingness to teach have higher potential to become external coaches. Trials that focus on those characteristic collegiate athletes could develop effective recruitment strategies for external coaches.

Toward developing a recruitment strategy for external coaches, this study evaluated facilitators and barriers related to engaging external coaches for school-based extracurricular sports activities. An Internet-based cross-sectional survey was conducted among 1140 individuals motivated to become external coaches registered with a Japanese social survey company. The questionnaire contained 42 facilitators and 44 barriers extracted through preliminary interview research. Proportions of applicable answers for each facilitator and barrier were calculated. Multiple logistic regression analyses were conducted to examine the relationships among sociodemographic variables and facilitators and barriers. Many potential external coaches perceived value in coaching, team members’ enjoyment, and fondness for the sport as facilitators; high responsibility, lack of information, and poor human relationships were regarded as barriers. Conversely, establishing human networks, desire for publicity, and financial compensation were not highly perceived as facilitators. Potential external coaches tend to regard coaching as a social contribution activity rather than an occupation.
Real-time Trajectory Optimization for Reducing Helicopter Noise Impact on the Ground

The purpose of this study is to obtain optimal landing approaches of helicopters that reduce the ground noise impact. In a previous study, we verified that the flights following the pre-calculated optimal trajectories with using our own noise source model resulted in lower noise impact on the ground than nominal approach paths. Detailed examination of these flights experiments. however, revealed that there were some results that did not show the predicted noise reduction effects because of unexpected external disturbances. We therefore refined the algorithms to realize more practical real-time optimization. To confirm the validity and effectiveness of the proposed optimization techniques, flight experiments were conducted again. The results showed that the noise levels predicted by proposed noise models show reasonable agreement with the measured noise levels. Furthermore. the experiments demonstrated that following the real-time optimized trajectories could decrease the ground noise impact.
