Lee, Young-June,Masami Hayashi Korean Society of Applied Entomology 2004 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.7 No.1
As the third part of the taxonomic review of Cicadidae (Hemiptera, Auchenorrhyncha) from Taiwan, 18 species belonging to six genera in cicadine tribes, Dundubiini (two other genera of Cicadina) and Moganiini, and a tibicinine tribe, Huechysini, are treated in this paper. A new genus, Formocicada Lee and Hayashi, and two new species, Tanna infuscata Lee and Hayashi and Formocicada taiwana Lee and Hayashi, are described. Four species are synonymized: Tanna taikosana Kato, 1925 and Tanna horiensis Kato, 1926 with Tanna taipinensis (Matsumura, 1907), and Tanna horishana Kato, 1925 and Tanna tarowanensis (Matsumura, 1927) with Tanna viridis Kato, 1925. Cryptotympana facialis (Walker, 1858), Cosmopsaltria doryca (Boisduval, 1835), and Leptopsaltria tuberosa (Signoret, 1847) are newly considered as species erroneously recorded from Taiwan. Informations on the biology and male chirpings are also provided.
Relationship between threatened vascular plants and the human population in Japan
Hayashi, Naoki,Watanabe, Eriko,Matsuda, Hiroyuki The Ecological Society of Korea 2012 Journal of Ecology and Environment Vol.35 No.4
Using data sets for Japan as a whole, as arranged with approximately $10{\times}10$ km squares (a secondary grid), we investigated the relationship between population density and the habitats of threatened vascular plants listed in the Japanese Red Data Book; depopulated areas in the present and future, areas where under-use may be serious, and those with a predominance of elderly people; and the present state of the habitats in terms of a characteristic land use pattern. Regarding the habitats of threatened vascular plants, the progress of deterioration [$(N_{CR}+N_{EN})/(N_{CR}+N_{EN}+N_{VU})$] in depopulated areas has been confirmed, where $N_{CR}$, $N_{EN}$, and $N_{VU}$ are the numbers of species classified as critically endangered, endangered, and vulnerable, respectively. Moreover, in grid squares used by a human such as farmland, the progress of the deterioration simply increases when population density becomes low. However, for many vascular plants, they are particularly endangered in populous areas. Local populations will decrease throughout Japan with the rate of depopulation in and around large cities being relatively slow. We also propose some issues that need further study. The deterioration by human activity may be reduced. On the other hand, some vascular plants may be adversely influenced by depopulation. Additionally, we should keep a close watch on grasslands and water areas in large cities to preserve vascular plants.

Ovotransferrin (OTf) was phosphorylated by dry-heating in the presence of pyrophosphate at pH 4.0 and $85^{\circ}C$ for 1 and 5 d, and the functional properties of phosphorylated OTf (PP-OTf) were investigated. The phosphorus content of OTf increased to 0.91% as a result of phosphorylation and the electrophoretic mobility of PP-OTf also increased. Although the solubility of dry-heated OTf slightly decreased, the decrease was reduced by phosphorylation. The stability against heat-induced insolubilization of OTf was somewhat improved by phosphorylation, but more than 70% of PP-OTf was insolubilized when it was heated at $70^{\circ}C$ for 10 min at pH 7.0. However, heat-induced insolubilization of PP-OTf was reduced when it was heated in the presence of phosphorylated ovalbumin. This may explain the excellent stability of phosphorylated egg white protein against heat-induced insolubilization which was reported previously. The emulsifying property of OTf was also somewhat improved by phosphorylation. The calcium phosphate-solubilizing ability of PP-OTf was enhanced. Although the degree of phosphorylation of OTf by dry-heating in the presence of pyrophosphate was similar to that of ovalbumin, the improvement of properties of PP-OTf was considerably different from those of phosphorylated ovalbumin.
FOCAL SURFACES AND EVOLUTES OF CURVES IN HYPERBOLIC SPACE
Hayashi, Ryota,Izumiya, Shyuichi,Sato, Takami Korean Mathematical Society 2017 대한수학회논문집 Vol.32 No.1
We define de Sitter focal surfaces and hyperbolic focal surfaces of hyperbolic space curves. As an application of the theory of unfoldings of function germs, we investigate the singularities of these surfaces. For characterizing the singularities of these surfaces, we discover a new hyperbolic invariants and investigate the geometric meanings.
Studies on Microstructural Phenomena Caused by Atomic Diffusion in Sintered Materials
Hayashi, Koji The Korean Powder Metallurgy Institute 2003 한국분말재료학회지 (KPMI) Vol.10 No.6
During the sintering of powder materials, many these are microstructural phenomena are caused by atomic diffusion. (1) neck formation and compact densification, (2) grain growth, i.e., growth of matrix grains and dispersed grains, (3) alloying or generation of compound, (4) generations of peculiar and hard layers near sintered compact surface, etc. The studies of the present author and co-workers on these phenomena which were carried out during 40 years are briefly introduced.
