A Rapid Field Measurement Method for the Determination of Joint Roughness Coefficient of Large Rock Joint Surfaces

        Rui Yong,Xi Fu,Man Huang,Qifeng Liang,Shi-Gui Du 대한토목학회 2018 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.22 No.1

An accurate measurement of the Joint Roughness Coefficient (JRC) of large rock joints is essential for understanding the mechanical behavior and permeability characteristics of rock mass. Determining the surface roughness of rock joints in situ, however, is timeconsuming and depends on sophisticated instruments. This study was carried out to develop a systematic method of measuring the JRC values of large joint roughness profiles. The roughness profiles were accurately recorded by a hand profilograph in the field and then digitized with flexibly adjusted sampling intervals by the grayscale image processing method. The digitized profiles were correlated closely with the original roughness profiles. A computerized approach for JRC quantitative evaluation was proposed based on the roughness amplitude/joint length relationship with JRC. The interval effect analysis showed that this method was effective for estimating the JRC values of different sized rock joints. This JRC measurement method has been successfully used in a case study of killas rock joints in Changshan City, P.R. China.

Tracking the movement trajectory of newly emerged adult Chinese citrus flies with insect harmonic radar

        Zhang-Zhang He,Jie Luo,Lian-You Gui,Deng-Ke Hua,Tian-Hua Du,Fu-Lian Wang,Peng Liang,Yong-Fang Shi,Xuan Yang 한국응용곤충학회 2019 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.22 No.3

Previous work reveals that the adult Chinese citrus fly, Bactrocera minax (Enderlein), emerges from the ground in citrus orchards and presumably disperses to alternate food sources in neighboring shrubs and trees, where it stays and becomes reproductively mature, and then later returns to the orchard to lay eggs. We investigated the trajectories of early emerged adult Chinese citrus flies, which were tracked with portable harmonic radar in 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016 in four different habitats in Hubei province of China that presumably provided food sources for adults. This study we investigated whether early emerged adult Chinese citrus flies migrate into forests. A total of 47 adults were tracked following release in a citrus orchard. Our results showed that a total of 33 adults released in a citrus orchard flew into the forest, and 14 adults that disappeared during the tracking process in the citrus orchard. A total of 10 adults (in 2014) that were tracked and released in the forest flew to the forest. Of the adult flies investigated, 54.5% flew directly into the forest, while the remaining 45.5% finally arrived in the forest after repeatedly adjusting their trajectories. When there were Castanea mollissima Blume (Fagaceae) in the surrounding forest, the proportion of frequency of adult landing on the plant represented 58.3% and 88.5% of landing on all species in 2014 and in 2015, respectively. We conclude that early emerged adult Chinese citrus flies in the mosaic-type citrus orchard of the hilly terrain landform dispersed into adjacent forest.

Sliding Mode Control of Three-Phase Four-Leg Inverters via State Feedback

Yang, Long-Yue,Liu, Jian-Hua,Wang, Chong-Lin,Du, Gui-Fu The Korean Institute of Power Electronics 2014 JOURNAL OF POWER ELECTRONICS Vol.14 No.5

To optimize controller design and improve static and dynamic performances of three-phase four-leg inverter systems, a compound control method that combines state feedback and quasi-sliding mode variable structure control is proposed. The linear coordinate change matrix and the state variable feedback equations are derived based on the mathematical model of three-phase four-leg inverters. Based on system relative degrees, sliding surfaces and quasi-sliding mode controllers are designed for converted linear systems. This control method exhibits the advantages of both state feedback and sliding mode control. The proposed controllers provide flexible dynamic control response and excellent stable control performance with chattering suppression. The feasibility of the proposed strategy is verified by conducting simulations and experiments.
