The chlorin-bromine building block was constructed and applied to synthesize $\delta$-bromo compounds of methyl pyropheophorbide-a. The visible spectra of the title compounds were discussed.

Pyropheophorbide and pheophorbide-photosensitizers as chlorin analogues are promising new compounds for PDT because the chlorin analogues are activated with much longer red light at > 670nm and produce less long-term normal tissue phototoxicity than Photofrin. The various chlorin derivatives can be obtained by moditying peripheral substituted group among which meso-H, vinyl group and exocyclic ring are the most active positions. These characteristics prompted us to introduce various groups for constructing modified pyropheophorbide and pheophorbide a compounds. A stereospecific introduction of various double bonds at 3-position was performed to methylpheophorbide a to give a long hydrophobic moiety and cyclic derivatives. Chlorin-C$_{60}$ dyad and chlorin- $C_{60}$-porphyrin triad also were easily prepared by the reaction of terminal aldehyde of methyl pyropheophorbide a. For the reaction on meso $\delta$-position bromination and Vismeier formylation can occur. N,N-dimethylaminoacrolein also reacted on $\delta$-position and was cyclized to isobacteriochlorin, but other modification has not been succeeded. Exocyclic keto function was also modified to give purpurin derivatives, bicyclic and spiro compounds. The methyl pheophorbide-a (MP-a) and methyl pyropheophorbide-a (MPP-a) were modified by reaction of exocyclic ketone in E-ring with nucleophilic reagent and several chlorin derivatives were synthesized. The change of the structure in E-ring served an expanding conjugation region and introduction of electron-withdrawing group, which strongly influenced the visible spectra. The Qy bands of synthesized compounds were affected by the substituents on the Qy axis(N$\sub$21/-N$\sub$23/).

The Grignard reaction of methyl pyropheophorbide-a (MPP-a) was performed to introduce lengthy alkyl chain for improving lipophilicity. After the introduction of alkyl chain to the both of carbonyls, peripheral aldehyde and cyclopentanone, the obtained diol 3 was subjected to dehydration to give monodehydrate product 4 selectively. The Qy band of prepared compounds were affected by the substituents on the Qy axis (N$\sub$21/-N$\sub$23/).

A wide range of problems geotechnical engineering have been analyzed by using the finite element method. In order to establish confidence in a numerical procedure, it is desirable that numerical solution be verified against field or laboratory observations, or both, and in order to aid the user in applying the method to practical problems, it is necessary to examine effects of various parameters that influence the behavior of engineering structures. Often it can be profitable to translate numerical solutions in formats that can be used readily for design analysis. The allowable bearing capacity of concrete piles is mainly governed by settlement rather than by strength of soil. Therefore, the load-displacement behavior of piles should be well understood at the design stage. This paper deals with some of these goals by considering the problem of load-displacement behavior of axially-loaded pile foundations.

Chigger mites are the vector of scrub typhus. This study estimates the infestation status and ecological characteristics of chiggers on the chestnut white-bellied rat Niviventer fulvescens in Southwest China between 2001 and 2019. Chiggers were identified under the microscope, and infestation indices were calculated. The Preston’s log-normal model was used to fit the curve of species abundance distribution. A total of 6,557 chiggers were collected in 136 of 342 N. fulvescens rats, showing high overall infestation indices (prevalence=39.8%, mean abundance=19.2, mean intensity=48.2) and high species diversity (S =100, H’=3.0). Leptotrombidium cangjiangense, Neotrombicula japonica, and Ascoschoengastia sifanga were the three dominant chigger species (constituent ratio=42.9%; 2,736/6,384) and exhibited an aggregated distribution among different rat individuals. We identified 100 chigger species, with 3 of them (Leptotrombidium scutellare, Leptotrombidium wenense, and Leptotrombidium deliense) as the main vectors of scrub typhus in China and nine species as potential vectors of this disease. Disease vector occurrence on N. fulvescens may increase the risk of spreading scrub typhus from rats to humans. Chigger infestation on N. fulvescens varied significantly in different environments. The species abundance distribution showed a log-normal distribution pattern. The estimated number of chigger species on N. fulvescens was 126 species.
Development of a position sensitive CsI(Tl) crystal array

A position-sensitive CsI(Tl) crystal array coupled with the multi-anode position sensitive photomultiplier tube (PS-PMT), Hamamatsu H8500C, has been developed at the Institute of Modern Physics. An effective, fast, and economical readout circuit based on discretized positioning circuit (DPC) bridge was designed for the 64-channel multi-anode flat panel PSPMT. The horizontal and vertical position resolutions are 0.58 mm and 0.63 mm respectively for the 1.0 × 1.0 × 5.0 ㎣ CsI(Tl) array, and the horizontal and vertical position resolutions are 0.86 mm and 0.80 mm respectively for the 2.0 × 2.0 × 10.0 ㎣ CsI(Tl) array. These results show that the CsI(Tl) crystal array with low cost could be applied in the fields of medical imaging and high-resolution gamma camera.
