        Lossless Compression for Hyperspectral Images based on Adaptive Band Selection and Adaptive Predictor Selection

        With the wide application of hyperspectral images, it becomes more and more important to compress hyperspectral images. Conventional recursive least squares (CRLS) algorithm has great potentiality in lossless compression for hyperspectral images. The prediction accuracy of CRLS is closely related to the correlations between the reference bands and the current band, and the similarity between pixels in prediction context. According to this characteristic, we present an improved CRLS with adaptive band selection and adaptive predictor selection (CRLS-ABS-APS). Firstly, a spectral vector correlation coefficient-based k-means clustering algorithm is employed to generate clustering map. Afterwards, an adaptive band selection strategy based on inter-spectral correlation coefficient is adopted to select the reference bands for each band. Then, an adaptive predictor selection strategy based on clustering map is adopted to select the optimal CRLS predictor for each pixel. In addition, a double snake scan mode is used to further improve the similarity of prediction context, and a recursive average estimation method is used to accelerate the local average calculation. Finally, the prediction residuals are entropy encoded by arithmetic encoder. Experiments on the Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS) 2006 data set show that the CRLS-ABS-APS achieves average bit rates of 3.28 bpp, 5.55 bpp and 2.39 bpp on the three subsets, respectively. The results indicate that the CRLS-ABS-APS effectively improves the compression effect with lower computation complexity, and outperforms to the current state-of-the-art methods.

        A Nine-Level Switched-Capacitor Step-Up Inverter with Low Voltage Stress

        This paper proposes a nine-level switched-capacitor step-up inverter (9LSUI) which can achieve a quadruple voltage gain with single dc source. Differing from other switched-capacitor inverters, the voltage stress of switches is effectively reduced due to the elimination of H-bridge, and the peak inverse voltage of all switches is kept within 2Vdc. In addition, the proposed inverter is able to integrate inductive load, and the capacitor voltage self-balancing can be achieved without any auxiliary circuits. Moreover, the topology structure can be flexibly extended to raise the output levels, and the peak inverse voltage of switches can remain constant with the increase of sub-modules in the extended structure. Comprehensive comparisons are performed to verify the outstanding advantages of the proposed inverter. Finally, the steady-state and dynamic performance of the proposed inverter is validated through an experimental prototype, and the experimental results are provided to prove the theoretical analysis.

        Preparation and Properties of Halogen-Free Flame Retardant and High Refractive Index Optical Resin via Click Chemistry

        Halogen-free flame retardant tri(acryloyloxyethyl) phosphate (TAEP) optical resin was prepared using hydroxy ethyl acrylate (HEA) and phosphorus oxychloride and the chemical structure was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectrometer and proton nuclear magnetic resonance spectrometer. Optical resins mixed by pentaerythritol tetrathioglycolic and TAEP with different S and P contents were obtained via click chemistry curing. The curing performance, thermal stability and flame retardant performance of the optical resins were analyzed by differential scanning calorimeter, thermogravimetric analyzer, and vertical burning tester, respectively. Additionally, the burned residual morphology of samples was investigated by scanning electronic microscopy, and the refractive indices of the optical resins were measured by an Abbe refractometer. The results revealed that increasing S content could improve the refractive indices of the resins; whereas, the flame retardant performances decreased. The optical resins with S content of 2% and P contents of 7.37% had refractive indices of 1.4935 and UL 94 V-0 flame retard level, respectively. The optical resins had good thermal stability and the 5% decomposition temperature reached up to 200.1 ℃.

        Brevibacterium limosum sp. nov., Brevibacterium pigmenatum sp. nov., and Brevibacterium atlanticum sp. nov., three novel dye decolorizing actinobacteria isolated from ocean sediments

        During a study of the marine actinobacterial biodiversity, a large number of Brevibacterium strains were isolated. Of these, five that have relatively low 16S rRNA gene similarity (98.5– 99.3%) with validly published Brevibacterium species, were chosen to determine taxonomic positions. On the basis of 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis and BOX-PCR fingerprinting, strains o2T, YB235T, and WO024T were selected as representative strains. Genomic analyses, including average nucleotide identity (ANI) and digital DNA-DNA hybridization (dDDH), clearly differentiated the three strains from each other and from their closest relatives, with values ranging from 82.8% to 91.5% for ANI and from 26.7% to 46.5% for dDDH that below the threshold for species delineation. Strains YB235T, WO024T, and o2T all exhibited strong and efficient decolorization activity in congo red (CR) dyes, moderate decolorization activity in toluidine blue (TB) dyes and poor decolorization in reactive blue (RB) dyes. Genes coding for peroxidases and laccases were identified and accounted for these strains’ ability to effectively oxidize a variety of dyes with different chemical structures. Mining of the whole genome for secondary metabolite biosynthesis gene clusters revealed the presence of gene clusters encoding for bacteriocin, ectoine, NRPS, siderophore, T3PKS, terpene, and thiopeptide. Based on the phylogenetic, genotypic and phenotypic data, strains o2T, YB235T and WO024T clearly represent three novel taxa within the genus Brevibacterium, for which the names Brevibacterium limosum sp. nov. (type strain o2T = JCM 33844T = MCCC 1A09961T), Brevibacterium pigmenatum sp. nov. (type strain YB235T = JCM 33843T = MCCC 1A09842T) and Brevibacterium atlanticum sp. nov. (type strain WO024T = JCM 33846T = MCCC 1A16743T) are proposed.

        Functional Definition of LuxS, an Autoinducer-2 (AI-2) Synthase and Its Role in Full Virulence of Streptococcus suis Serotype 2

        Quorum sensing is a widespread chemical communication in response to fluctuation of bacterial population density, and has been implicated into bacterial biofilm formation and regulation of expression of virulence factors. The luxS gene product, S-ribosylhomocysteinase, catalizes the last committed step in biosynthetic pathway of autoinducer 2 (AI-2), a signaling molecule for inter-species quorum sensing. We found a luxS homologue in 05ZYH33, an epidemic strain of Streptococcus suis serotype 2 (SS2) in China. A luxS null mutant (ΔluxS) of 05ZYH33 strain was obtained using an approach of homologous recombination. LuxS was determined to be required for AI-2 production in 05ZYH33 strain of S. suis 2. Inactivation of luxS gene led to a wide range of phenotypic changes including thinner capsular walls, increased tolerance to H_2O_2, reduced adherence capacity to epithelial cells, etc. In particular, loss of LuxS impaired dramatically its full virulence of SS2 in experimental model of piglets, and functional complementation restored it nearly to the level of parent strain. Genome-wide transcriptome analyses suggested that some known virulence factors such as CPS are down-regulated in the ΔluxS mutant, which might in part explain virulence attenuation by luxS deletion. Similarly, 29 of 71 genes with different expression level were proposed to be targets candidate regulated by LuxS/AI-2-dependent quorum sensing.

        Epidemiology and resistance features of Acinetobacter baumannii isolates from the ward environment and patients in the burn ICU of a Chinese hospital

        Acinetobacter baumannii is an important opportunistic pathogen that causes severe nosocomial infections, especially in intensive care units (ICUs). Over the past decades, an everincreasing number of hospital outbreaks caused by A. baumannii have been reported worldwide. However, little attention has been directed toward the relationship between A. baumannii isolates from the ward environment and patients in the burn ICU. In this study, 88 A. baumannii isolates (26 from the ward environment and 62 from patients) were collected from the burn ICU of the Southwest Hospital in Chongqing, China, from July through December 2013. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing results showed that drug resistance was more severe in isolates from patients than from the ward environment, with all of the patient isolates being fully resistant to 10 out of 19 antimicrobials tested. Isolations from both the ward environment and patients possessed the β-lactamase genes blaOXA-51, blaOXA-23, blaAmpC, blaVIM, and blaPER. Using pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and multi-locus sequence typing (MLST), these isolates could be clustered into 4 major PFGE types and 4 main sequence types (ST368, ST369, ST195, and ST191) among which, ST368 was the dominant genotype. Epidemiologic and molecular typing data also revealed that a small-scale outbreak of A. baumannii infection was underway in the burn ICU of our hospital during the sampling period. These results suggest that dissemination of β-lactamase genes in the burn ICU might be closely associated with the high-level resistance of A. baumannii, and the ICU environment places these patients at a high risk for nosocomial infection. Cross-contamination should be an important concern in clinical activities to reduce hospital acquired infections caused by A. baumannii.
