It is effective to recover waste heat to reduce primary energy consumption. From this point of view, we proposed and examined a new idea of heat transportation using ammonia–water as the working fluid in the system named the Solution Transportation Absorption chiller (STA). As waste heat sources are not necessarily located close to areas of heat demand, conventionally, absorption chillers are located on heat source side and produce chilled water that is transported to heat demand side through pipelines with an insulation. In contrast, the proposed system STA divides an absorption chiller into two parts. The generator and the condenser are located on heat source side while the evaporator and the absorber are on heat demand side. Both the conventional system and STA system satisfy the same boundary condition of heat recovery and heat supply to the demand side, STA can work for transferring thermal energy as the conventional system does even though the temperature of the media is ambient without an insulation. Our previous studies of the STA were based on the experimental investigation with the STA facility where the cooling power was 90kW (25.6 refrigeration ton) at the generator temperature 120 ∘C from 0 m (normal absorption chiller) to 1000 m. Thus, the Coefficient of Performance (COP) of STA was found to have almost the same value of 0.65 with conventional absorption chillers without depending on the transportation distances. The objective of this study is to examine the effect of generator temperature from 100 ∘C to 120 ∘C on the performance of solution transportation of ammonia–water solution, because the generator temperature is directly linked to the waste heat temperature, so its effect needs to be investigated. The experimental facility tested the performance with 0 m (normal absorption chiller), 200 m and 500 m distance. The results indicate that the effect of the generator temperature and solution transportation distances showed no significant on the COP.

The number of diabetic patients is increasing especially in Asia according to change of life habits (1). In mild case of diabetes, many patients are left without medical treatments and the long period of none treatment causes serious complications that impair the quality of life of the patients (2). Diabetes is a chronic disease that is characterized by hyperglycemia caused by insufficiency of the insulin action (3). So, we considered that edible ingredients which can complement insulin action are useful to prevent and cure diabetes and complications associated with the disease.
We tried to find the insulin mimic compounds from edible plants. We investigated the two insulin mimic activities of edible plant materials; (a) adipocyte differentiation activity and (b) enhancement activity of glucose uptake, using pre-adipocyte cell line 3T3-L1 (4,5). As a result, we found that ethanol extract of Angelica keiskei, a dropwort indigenous to Japan and called “Ashitaba”, has both activities (6). We tried to isolate active compounds from the extract, and we found that two major chalcons peculiar to Angelica keiskei, xanthoangelol (XA) and 4-hydroxyderricin (4HD) have both activities (a) and (b). Regarding adipocyte differentiation, XA and 4HD have the similar level of activities. On the other hand, regarding enhancement of glucose uptake, the activity of 4HD is several times as high as that of XA. Furthermore, the combination of XA and 4HD could complement insulin action (induction of adipocyte differentiation and enhancement of glucose uptake) in in vitro assay.
Taking the results of in vitro assay into consideration, we investigated each anti-diabetic activity of XA and 4HD using KKAy mice that develop diabetes and shows hyperglycemia by aging (7). To investigate the preventive activity against diabetes, we administered oral dose of XA or 4HD for several weeks to KKAy mice that had not showed symptoms of diabetes. As a results, both oral dose of XA and 4HD suppressed the increase of blood sugar. Namely, oral dose of XA and 4HD suppressed the development of diabetes. To investigate the curing activity of XA and 4HD against diabetes, we administered oral dose of XA or 4HD for several days to KKAy mice that had showed hyperglycemia, and observed oral dose of XA and 4HD decreased the blood sugar respectively. These results suggested that XA and 4HD have anti-diabetic activities.
On the other hand, we had already found that some coumarins and a chroman contained in Ashitaba can induce nerve growth factor (NGF) that has preventive and curing activity of peripheral nerve disease caused by diabetic hyperglycemia. Also founded is that many chalcones contained in Ashitaba have aldose reductase inhibition activity that is effective to prevent complications caused by diabetic hyperglycemia.
Our research results mentioned above strongly suggest that daily ingestion of Ashitaba may be able to prevent and cure diabetes and complications by synergistic effect of each biological activity of Ashitaba.

Masaki Fujita,Masanori Enoki,Kenji Tsutsumi,Satoshi Iikubo,Kazuyoshi Yamada 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.12
We have performed elastic neutron scattering experiments on the superconductorLa1.85Ho0.03Sr0.12CuO4 to study the effect of substitution of a cation with a large magnetic momentat La site on the static spin correlation. In the Ho-free sample with a hole concentration of 0.12,the spatially-modulated magnetic order is known to be stabilized at temperature below Tspin 30K. In the present Ho-doped sample, we found the appearance of magnetic peaks at (0.5, 0.5 ± 0.119, 0) positions below Tspin 35 K, which is similar to the observation in the pristine sample. Furthermore, the volume-corrected intensities in the Ho-free and Ho-doped samples are comparable, suggesting a negligible effect of Ho-substitution at La sites. These results are quite a contrast tothe huge enhancement of the magnetic intensity and the increase of Tspin by substituting a comparableamounts of magnetic Fe3+ ions onto CuO2 planes. Therefore, the stability of the stripe orderinduced by the cation substitution is sensitive to the site at which the substitution occurs.
Application Examples of CFD at the Planning Stage of High-Rise Buildings
Hiroto, Kataoka,Yoshiyuki, Ono,Kota, Enoki,Yuichi, Tabata,Satoko, Kinashi Council on Tall Building and Urban Habitat Korea 2022 International journal of high-rise buildings Vol.11 No.3
Application examples of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) in the planning stage of high-rise buildings are introduced. First, we introduce examples of applications in the environmental field. The pedestrian wind environment was one of the earliest practical examples of CFD. CFD was also employed to validate the heat island mitigation measures proposed as part of the new construction plan. Second, application examples of wind-force evaluations are introduced. Prediction examples are presented for the peak wind pressure around a complex-shaped building and the wind force evaluation for a base-isolated building. The results prove that the results of the proper execution of CFD are equivalent to those of the wind tunnel experiment. As examples of CFD applications of other issues related to high-rise building planning, we introduce snow accretion on outer walls and high-temperature exhaust from emergency generators. Finally, the future prospects for the use of CFD are discussed.
A Baseball Game Analysis by an Extraction of Characteristic Play Sequence
Toshio Hira,Mizuki Ban,Shinichi Enoki,Shinji Uchida 제어로봇시스템학회 2016 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2016 No.10
In baseball games, a term of momentum affecting the flow of the game is used as a mental concept. A team can feel positive momentum during a game when the first batter in an inning gets a base; the following batters get runs more easily. Regarding psychological momentum, many folk theories are widely believed among baseball people. A more quantitative approach to folk theories on baseball games is required because these are qualitatively explained without any clear basis. In this article, we statistically analyze the plays on 31 games by National Institute of Technology, Nara College (NIT-Nara) team in Japan high school baseball tournament. The verification of typical folk theories associated with some specific plays shows that these theories are not statistically significant. The playing-style is checked by means of bias on the play frequency. It is found that negative plays occurred more often than those by the opponent teams. The evaluation for the plays with n-gram frequency extracts some characteristic play sequences. These analyses revealed that NIT-Nara team is rather emotionally unstable to keep their positive momentum. Furthermore, a method for detailed investigation of the key plays driving momentum on the game is mentioned as the future problem.
Chemically induced topological zero mode at graphene armchair edges
Ziatdinov, M.,Lim, H.,Fujii, S.,Kusakabe, K.,Kiguchi, M.,Enoki, T.,Kim, Y. Royal Society of Chemistry 2017 Physical chemistry chemical physics Vol.19 No.7

The electronic and magnetic properties of chemically modified graphene armchair edges are studied using a combination of tight-binding calculations, first-principles modelling, and low temperature scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) experiments. The atomically resolved STM images of the hydrogen etched graphitic edges suggest the presence of localized states at the Fermi level for certain armchair edges. We demonstrate theoretically that the topological zero-energy edge mode may emerge at armchair boundaries with asymmetrical chemical termination of the two outermost atoms in the unit cell. We particularly focus our attention on armchair edges terminated by various combinations of the hydrogen (H, H-2) and methylene (CH2) groups. The inclusion of the spin component in our calculations reveals the appearance of pi-electron-based magnetism at the armchair edges under consideration.

We measured the magnetic excitations in underdoped (UD) La1.90Sr0.10CuO4 by using inelasticneutron scattering over a wide energy range. We succeeded in observing the high-energy excitationsup to '160 meV. Hour-glass-like magnetic excitation, which is commonly seen in the superconductingphase of cuprate oxides, was confirmed. The Ecross (the energy where the dispersion is closestto the ( 12 , 12 ) reciprocal position) of 40 meV follows a linear relation between Ecross and the dopedhole concentration in the UD region. From the dispersion of high-energy excitations above Ecross,we successfully found an effective nearest neighbor interaction (Jeff ) of 102 ± 2 meV. This Jeff issmaller than the nearest neighbor interaction J(=132 meV) in the parent compound La2CuO4,indicating a reduction of Jeff by hole-doping.
