        Edible composite films: enhancing the postharvest preservation of blueberry

        Blueberry is popular among consumers for their unique fl avor and rich nutritional content. However, fresh blueberry often has a short shelf life due to microbial contamination and water loss. Existing blueberry preservation methods, such as irradiation, air conditioning, and high-voltage electrostatic fi elds, have shown certain eff ectiveness. Nonetheless, their high cost and energy consumption limit their widespread use. Edible composite fi lms, created by incorporating functional substances into an edible fi lm matrix, represent an eco-friendly preservation technology. These fi lms alter the surface microenvironment of fruits by establishing a selective barrier on the fruit's surface, which signifi cantly enhances fruit storage quality. This article provides a comprehensive review of the application of edible composite fi lms in blueberry preservation. By summarizing the spoilage process of blueberry during harvesting and storage, in conjunction with fruit preservation techniques, it explores the feasibility and potential applications of edible composite fi lms. Lastly, it delves into the possibilities and challenges of integrating nanomaterials with edible composite fi lms.

        A Digital Self-Sustained Phase Shift Modulation Control Strategy for Full-Bridge LLC Resonant Converters

        A digital self-sustained phase shift modulation (DSSPSM) strategy that allows for good soft switching and dynamic response performance in the presence of step variations is presented in this paper. The working principle, soft switching characteristics, and voltage gain formulae of a LLC converter with DSSPSM have been provided separately. Furthermore, the method for realizing DSSPSM is proposed. Specifically, some key components of the proposed DSSPSM are carefully investigated, including a parameter variation analysis, the start-up process, and the zero-crossing capture of the resonant current. The simulation and experiment results verify the feasibility of the proposed control method. It is observed that the zero voltage switching of the switches and the zero current switching of the rectifier diodes can be easily realized in presence of step load variations.

        Effects of Supercritical CO2 Treatment on Color, Lipid Oxidation, Heme Iron, Non-Heme Iron and Metmyoglobin Contents in Ground Pork

        The color, lipid oxidation, heme iron (HI) and non-heme iron (NHI) contents, metmyoglobin content and Soret band of myoglobin of ground pork subjected to supercritical CO2 treatment under different conditions, or to heat treatment (40℃, 2 h) and subsequent storage at 4℃ were evaluated during 9-day period. Supercritical CO2 treatment significantly increased CIE L* and CIE b* values of ground pork during subsequent storage, while the HI content was slightly affected. In general, CIE a* value and metmyoglobin content were decreased. Supercritical CO2 treatment for 2 h could increase the thiobarbituric acid-reactive substances (TBARS) value, while treatment for 1 h or less had no effect. The NHI content could be increased only after treatment at above 40℃ or 17.2 MPa for 2 h. The Soret band of myoglobin was shifted to longer wavelength. Increasing treatment temperature from 35℃ to 45℃ could increase CIE L*, CIE a*, CIE b* and TBARS values, HI and NHI contents of the ground pork, while decreasing metmyoglobin content. As the treatment pressure increased from 13.8 MPa to 20.7 MPa, CIE b* and TBARS values were decreased, while the NHI and metmyoglobin contents were increased. However, the other parameters were unchanged. Extending exposure time from 0.5 h to 2 h could increase CIE L*, CIE b* and TBARS values, HI contents, while decreasing CIE a* value and metmyoglobin content. Correlation analysis showed that the TBARS value was significantly and negatively correlated with the HI content or metmyoglobin content in samples treated at 40℃ or above for 2 h.

        Three degrees of freedom chatter stability prediction in the milling process

        Chatter in the cutting process has a great influence on workpiece surface quality, machining efficiency, and service life of the machine tool. This work presents three degrees of freedom (DOF) dynamic model applied to tool chatter for thin-walled structures in milling. Combined with dynamic cutting force modelling in the radial, axial and tangential directions, the stability chart was solved by adopting an improved semi-discretization method in time domain. And the stability prediction model considering regenerative effect was validated by cutting tests with specific axial depth of cut and spindle speed. The cutting experimental results performed at different axial depth of cuts were in accordance with predicted stability lobe diagram (SLD). Moreover, the effects of cutting contact angle and radial immersion ratio on SLD were also analyzed. The study results show that the dynamic model could make a good prediction of chatter stability, and the established approach is high efficient in predicting the chatter stability lobe considering the actual situation.
