<P>The present study was to evaluate the effects of Huang Bai, Zhi Mu, Mai Ya, and Xia Ku Cao on hormone using the GT1–7 and GH3 cells. The GT1–7 and GH3 cell lines were incubated with DW; DMSO; and 30, 100, or 300 <I>μ</I>g/mL of one of the four extract solutions in serum-free media for 24 hours. The MTT assay was performed to determine the cytotoxicity of the four herbs. The GT1–7 and GH3 cells were incubated in DW, estradiol (GT1–7 only), or noncytotoxic herb solutions in serum-free medium for 24 hours. A quantitative RT-PCR and western blot were performed to measure the GnRH expression in GT1–7 cells and GH expression in GH3 cells. Huang Bai, Zhi Mu, Xia Ku Cao, and Mai Ya inhibited the GnRH mRNA expression in GT1–7 cells, whereas Huang Bai enhanced GH mRNA expression in GH3 cells. Additionally, Xia Ku Cao inhibited GnRH protein expression in GT1–7 cells and Huang Bai promoted GH protein expression in GH3 cells. The findings suggest that Huang Bai can delay puberty by inhibiting GnRH synthesis in the hypothalamus while also accelerating growth by promoting GH synthesis and secretion in the pituitary.</P>

<P>Astragalus extract mixture HT042 is a standardized ingredient of health functional food approved by Korean FDA with a claim of “height growth of children.” HT042 stimulates bone growth rate and increases local IGF-1 expression in growth plate of rats which can be considered as direct stimulation of GH and its paracrine/autocrine actions. However, it remains unclear whether HT042 stimulates circulatory IGF-1 which also plays a major role to stimulate bone growth. To determine the effects on circulatory IGF-1, IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 expressions and phosphorylation of JAK2/STAT5 were evaluated in the liver after 10 days of HT042 administration. HT042 upregulated liver IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 mRNA expression, IGF-1 protein expression, and phosphorylation of JAK2/STAT5. HT042 also increased bone growth rate and proliferative zonal height in growth plate. In conclusion, HT042 stimulates bone growth rate via increment of proliferative rate by upregulation of liver IGF-1 and IGFBP-3 mRNA followed by IGF-1 protein expression through phosphorylation of JAK2/STAT5, which can be regarded as normal functioning of GH-dependent endocrine pathway. </P>

The welding is very difficult and dangerous for manual welders. Especially double hull structure has very hazardous environment, so shipbuilding industry demands the autonomous system instead of manual welders. This paper describes design of a totally new designed mobile robot, called ‘Rail Runner’, for welding in a double hull structure. Due to the welding work involved in the assembly procedure of a double hull structure, this research addressed both the mechanical and control systems of the robot. The mechanical system of this robot is composed of six axes manipulator for welding function and six axes mobile platform for traveling in the double hull structure. This robot is able to autonomously travel and weld a U-shaped part in a double hull structure. The ‘Rail Runner’ can elevate the efficiency of the welding process against manual welders and the international competitiveness of the shipbuilding industry.

Eighty-five Enterococcus faecalis isolates collected from animals (40 isolates), meju (a Korean fermented soybean product; 27 isolates), humans (10 isolates), and various environmental samples (8 isolates) were subjected to multilocus sequence typing (MLST) to identify genetic differences between samples of different origins. MLST analysis resulted in 44 sequence types (STs), and the eBURST algorithm clustered the STs into 21 clonal complexes (CCs) and 17 singletons. The predominant STs, ST695 (21.1%, 18/85) and ST694 (9.4%, 8/85), were singletons, and only contained isolates originating from meju. None of the STs in the current study belonged to CC2 or CC9, which comprise clinical isolates with high levels of antibiotic resistance. The E. faecalis isolates showed the highest rates of resistance to tetracycline (32.9%), followed by erythromycin (9.4%) and vancomycin (2.4%). All isolates from meju were sensitive to these three antibiotics. Hence, MLST uncovered genetic diversity within E. faecalis, and clustering of the STs using eBURST revealed a correlation between the genotypes and origins of the isolates.
An Antenna Tracking Profile Design for Communication with a Ground station
Lee, Donghun,Lee, Kyung-Min,Rashed, Mohammed Irfan,Bang, Hyochoong The Korean Society for Aeronautical and Space Scie 2013 International Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sc Vol.14 No.3
In order to communicate with a ground station, the tracking profile design problem for a directional antenna system is considered. Because the motions of the gimbal angles in the antenna system affect the image quality, the main object is to minimize the motion of the gimbal angles during the satellite's imaging phase. For this goal, parameter optimization problems in the imaging and maneuver phases are formulated separately in the body-frame, and solved sequentially. Also, several mechanical constraints, such as the limitation of the gimbal angle and rate, are considered in the problems. The tracking profiles of the gimbal angles in the maneuver phases are designed with N-th order polynomials, to continuously connect the tracking profiles between two imaging phases. The results confirm that if the vector trace of the desired antenna-pointing vector is within the antenna's beam-width angle, motions of the gimbal angles are not required in the corresponding imaging phase. Also, through numerical examples, it is shown that motion of the gimbal angles in the imaging phase can be minimized by the proposed design process.
State of Charge Estimation Using Multi-layer Neural Networks Based On Temperature

Lithium-ion batteries are generally used in electric vehicles, mobile phones, and lap-tops. Such batteries demonstrate advantages such as environmental-friendliness, high energy density, and long life. However, if not continuously monitored, battery overcharging and over-discharging may occur. Overcharging causes fire and explosion casualties, and overdischarging causes a reduction in the battery capacity and life. In addition, the internal resistance of such batteries varies depending on the external temperature of the batteries, and as the temperature decreases, the capacity of the batteries decreases as well. In this paper, we propose a method for estimating the state of charge (SOC) using a neural network model best suited for the external temperature of such batteries. Experimental data to verify the proposed method were obtained through a discharge experiment conducted using a vehicle-driving simulator. The experimental data were provided as inputs to multi-layer neural network (MNN). The MNN models were trained and optimized for specific temperatures measured during the experiment, and the SOC was estimated by selecting the most suitable model for a temperature. The experimental results revealed that such an estimation of the SOC was better than that using conventional methods.

Although the connection between parental bonding and adolescent peer victimization is widely accepted, little is known about the specific mechanism underlying this link. Adolescent mental health status, in terms of individual-level psychological functioning, can be an important factor mediating this parental bonding ― peer victimization link. Among various mental health indicators, the current study examined the mediating roles of stress and depression in the relationship between perceived parental bonding and adolescent peer victimization. The subjects were 484 male adolescents attending middle schools in South Korea. Associations between both maternal and paternal parental bonding and peer victimization were mediated by both stress and depression in Korean male adolescents, confirming a dual-mediation model. Stress fully mediated the relationship between perceived parental bonding and depression, while depression partially mediated the relationship between stress and peer victimization. Implications for practice and policy were discussed.
Gimbal-Angle Vectors of the Nonredundant CMG Cluster
Lee, Donghun,Bang, Hyochoong The Korean Society for Aeronautical Space Sciences 2018 International Journal of Aeronautical and Space Sc Vol.19 No.2
This paper deals with the method using the preferred gimbal angles of a control moment gyro (CMG) cluster for controlling spacecraft attitude. To apply the method to the nonredundant CMG cluster, analytical gimbal-angle solutions for the zero angular momentum state are derived, and the gimbal-angle vectors for the nonzero angular momentum states are studied by a numerical method. It will be shown that the number of the gimbal-angle vectors is determined from the given skew angle and the angular momentum state of the CMG cluster. Through numerical examples, it is shown that the method using the preferred gimbal-angle is an efficient approach to avoid internal singularities for the nonredundant CMG cluster.
Performance analysis of multiple-input multiple-output interference alignment with user selection
Donghun Lee,Seungkeun Park IET 2015 IET COMMUNICATIONS Vol.9 No.7
<P>The performance analysis of the multiple-input multiple-output interference alignment (IA) with user selection in small-cell interference channels is investigated. In this system, the authors consider the user selection using spatially independent scheduling in which a transmitter sends the data stream of the selected user providing the maximum effective signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). As the first step, this study derives exact and approximate probability density functions of the effective SNR of the proposed IA with user selection. Next, exact closed-form expressions of the bit-error rate (BER) for the <I>M</I>-ary quadrature amplitude modulation, <I>M</I>-ary phase shift keying modulation and outage probability are presented. Using asymptotic analysis, the BER and outage probability of the proposed IA system with user selection are approximated, and the diversity order and SNR gain are quantified, respectively. Also, the authors derive tight closed-form expression of the proposed system for ergodic capacity using the Taylor series expansion of logarithm function. The analytical results show that diversity order of the IA system with user selection is superior to that of the conventional iterative algorithms. Also, the ergodic capacity of the proposed system is superior to that of the conventional iterative algorithms at high SNR. This performance gain comes from multi-user diversity. The analytical results are verified through simulation results.</P>
