        Efficient treatment of anthraquinone dye wastewater by adsorption using sunflower torus-like magnesium hydroxide microspheres

        Novel sunflower torus-like magnesium hydroxide (MH) microsphere particles were prepared by a facile one-step, self-assembly method. The synthesized products and the mechanism of adsorption of samples of the anthraquinone dyes reactive blue 19 (RB19) and alizarin red S (ARS) were analyzed by different modern characterization techniques, such as X-ray diffractometry (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), energy dispersive X-ray spectrometry (EDS), the Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) method and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The adsorptive potential of the as-prepared microspheres for the removal of RB19 and ARS in aqueous solution was evaluated. The effects of multiple condition parameters, including, adsorbent dosage, adsorption time, adsorption temperature, wastewater pH, rotating speed and sodium chloride concentration on the removal of the dyes from the wastewater were studied in detail. The effect of the structural and shape properties of the MH adsorbent on the dye adsorption performances was also studied. The results showed that sunflower torus-like MH was an effective adsorbent for dye removal. The removal rates of ARS and RB19 were 91.65% and 83.03%, respectively, under the optimized conditions. The maximum adsorption capacity of the microspheres was 349.85mg/g for ARS and 231.78mg/g for RB19 at 25 oC. The equilibrium adsorption experimental data of the microsphere adsorption conformed to the Freundlich isotherm for ARS and the Langmuir isotherm for RB19. The adsorption kinetics experimental studies showed that the pseudo-second-order and pseudo-first-order model perfectly fit for both ARS and RB19 microsphere adsorption. RB19 and ARS were absorbed on the sunflower torus-like MH surface via the formation of H-bonds. Thus, the sunflower torus-like MH microsphere particles are an effective purifying agent for the removal of the anthraquinone dyes ARS and RB19 from wastewater.

        PSD Integrated Calibration Method Based on Annunciator in Vacuum Environment

        In this paper, an integrated calibration method for position sensitive detector (PSD) of moving support mechanism in vacuum plasma environment is proposed. That is, the PSD is used to track the laser spot to restore the coordinate information of the signal. Firstly, a PSD integrated calibration principle is proposed to reduce the position error of the signaler by tracking laser points with PSD. Then on this basis, due to the spatial declination angle in the PSD imaging model, a spatial declination correction model was established to compensate the spatial declination error. Finally, there are errors occurred in the measurement because of the nonlinearity of PSD, and the improved backpropagation (BP) neural network calibration algorithm is adopted to further correct the errors through the Fletcher–Reeves linear search method to obtain the accurate coordinate information of the annunciator. MATLAB is used to verify the convergence of the calibration algorithm error. Simulation results show that 951 epochs need to be trained by using the traditional BP algorithm to make the position error converge to 0.001 mm. But when using the improved BP algorithm, only 44 epochs are needed.

        Ion-exchange coupled crystallization for the removal of calcium ions from dicyandiamide

        A new process for ion exchange coupled crystallization is introduced for the removal of calcium ions from dicyandiamide. The effects of different ion-exchange resins, temperature, reaction time, stirring rate, and treatment amount and resin dosage on the removal of calcium ions in dicyandiamide were studied. On this basis, the crystallization process of dicyandiamide was optimized by response surface methodology, together with respective investigations on the effects of cooling rate, stirring rate, seed grain size and seeding time on the removal of calcium ions in dicyandiamide. It was found that the removal efficiency of calcium ion could reach up to 98.12%, during the ion-exchange treatment, and the value increased then fell, with the rise of stirring rate and temperature; the efficiency would improve, with the accumulation of resin dosage; but it would diminish with the increase of treatment amount; and the value would first rise and then remain unchanged when the reaction time was extended. In addition, the best conditions for crystallization are also provided. When the cooling rate is at 0.3 oC/min, the stirring rate 300 rpm, the seed size 60 meshes, and the seeding time 30 minutes, seeds in uniform size with the content of Ca2+ pharmaceutically qualified would be obtained, under the optimum process conditions.
