This study was conducted to elucidate the effect of after-ripening of gourd fruits before seed collection. Five varieties of commercial gourd varieties were cultivated and the fruits were picked after 24, 31, 50, and 70 days from pollination. For after-ripening treatments the fruits were placed for five days in a cool, air-circulated place while a number of fruits were placed for longer periods to 85 days including growing period, 24 + 62 days, 31 + 55 days, 50 + 35 days, and 70 + 15 days. The seeds collected from fruits harvested on 24<sup>th</sup> day were not emerged at all, but the seeds from after-ripening treatment for 62 days showed 78% emergence or higher. The growth of seedlings showed the effects of after-ripening treatment of the fruits before seed collection; the seeds collected after ripening treatment showed better hypocotyl growth and larger embryo size than the non-treated seeds.

Employing a set of six parent diallel crosses, the heterosis and inheritance mode of days to bolting and flowering were studied in Chinese cabbage. Mean heterosis was significant in days to bolting but not in days to flowering. High heritability was observed in both characters. A common major gene was postulated to explain the inheritance of over the lateness.

The study was performed to evaluate rice seed germination, seedling emergence and seedling establishment under different coating materials such as iron powder, silicate powder and silicate coverage after direct seeding. There were differences among coating materials as follows; 1. In seedling establishment there was the highest in untreated control> silicate-coated seeds and silicate coverage>iron-coated seeds. In case of untreated control this result due to laboratory experiment unlike field conditions where has been constraints in bird damages, seed dry under strong sunlight and buoyance after rainy and/or irrigation. 2. Thus, there was the highest in untreated control>silicate-coated seeds>silicate coverage>iron-coated seeds, respectively. 3. Total fresh weight(shoots and roots) of the seedling was also highest in untreated control>silicate-coated seeds and silicate coverage> iron-coated seeds.

The present study was performed to examine the high temperature adaptability with CO<sub>2</sub> treatment for tomato under the condition of greenhouse cultivation during summer season. The plants with the CO<sub>2</sub> concentration of 1000 ppm recorded higher scores in Fm/Fo and Fv/Fm but lower score in Fo than others through the measurement of chlorophyll fluorescence, which implicated that the plants with the CO<sub>2</sub> concentration of 1000 ppm had more adaptability to high temperature than the others. At the condition of the same air temperature as 30℃ and 40℃, the photosynthetic rate was increased with the increase of CO<sub>2</sub> concentration. When in the high air temperature state of 40℃, although the photosynthic rate was low in comparison with 30℃, its value was about 18.5umolm<sup>-2</sup>s<sup>-1</sup> in case of 1000ppm. The higher concentration of CO<sub>2</sub> made the more activated anti-oxidation enzyme (superoxide dismutase and peroxidase) for the both cultivars as 'momotaro' and 'minichal'. The cultivar of 'minichal' performed the high temperature limit as 41℃ at the CO<sub>2</sub> condition of 500 ppm and 43℃ at the CO<sub>2</sub> condition of 1000 ppm through the estimation on the variation of chlorophyll fluorescence Fo by CO<sub>2</sub> concentrations.

최근 우리나라에서는 육묘에서 이앙작업 단축을 위하여 본답육묘(못자리)에서 하우스 육묘(육묘공장) 시스템을 전국적으로 채택하고 있으나 이앙당시 유묘의 연약한 생장으로 모내기 약 2주전 별도로 본답 또는 외기로 육묘상자를 옮겨 경화를 시키는 번거로운 문제점에 있다. 따라서 본 시험에서는 철분코팅볍씨를 이용할 경우 다음과 같은 결과를 얻어 육묘공장(못자리)에서도 본 연구결과를 활용할 경우 유용할 것으로 사료되어진다. 1. 철분코팅을 한 볍씨는 무처리에 비하여 발아, 출아, 유묘생장에 극히 정상적이었다. 2. 이앙당시 유묘의 초장 생장은 무처리에 비하여 작아 육묘상자 운반과정, 이앙작업 시 손상이 줄어 들 것으로 보였다. 3. 유묘의 엽수 뿌리 생육이 무처리에 비하여 양호하여 초기 유묘생장에 유리할 것으로 보였다. 4. 철분코팅을 한 유묘의 지상부, 지하부 생장이 무처리에 비하여 양호하여 건묘육성에 유리한 것으로 나타났다.

This is a survey on farming activities of intensive major course's graduates of Korea National College of Agriculture and Fisheries(KNCAF). Above all, major characteristics of graduates of intensiv major course cases are as follows. First, They make an effort to secure of agriculture competitiveness through an increase in farm size, and then strive for their specialty. Second, They are leading value based agriculture through an innovations in techniques. According to analysis results, intensive major course's examples have the following features: aim at environmentally-friendly agriculture, actively introduction of new technology, continued research activity, community reinvigoration and leading development of agriculture through active network. Finally, This result in various certifications and awards(environment friendly certification, HACCP certification, non antibiotic/pesticide-free certification, organic certification etc.). Therefore, there are necessity of various intitutional and political supports in order that they grow the core people and leader of farm village.

Use of mobile shading helps ameliorate heat stress of cucumber in greenhouse during summer. The mobile shading according to solar radiation may be optimal to produce high-quality cucumber in greenhouse during summer. Simultaneous comparison was made among greenhouse sections that were either not shaded or covered with reflective aluminized shadecloth that shaded 40%, or 90% of direct sunlight. Solar radiation amount, soil temperature, difference in leaf temperature and air temperature, and air temperature were lower, and relative humidity was higher as shade level increased. With increased shade level, photosynthesis rate, leaf area, fresh weight, dry weight, and number of marketable fruits increased. The mobile shading of 90% when the outer sunlight was above 650W·m<sup>-2</sup> yielded favorable growth environment in greenhouse of cucumber during summer.

Suggestion for solving the defficulties or Problems arising from the S-gene activity and inbreeding in the course of recurrent back cross for developing and maintenance of CMS lines were discussed.
